Well the surgery went great. The doctor checked me again this morning and I'm almost 20/15 in both eyes. No grittiness or dryness yet, just still a tad fuzzy. I keep telling my husband what a miracle this is - I'm sure he'll get sick of it by the end of the day. I'm SO happy. I didn't anticipate how this surgery could effect my MOOD!
Shana - they gave me 5 mg of Valium, I'm not sure how strong that is. Anyway, I did fall asleep while waiting for the surgery but once they woke me I was able to go right into the operating room...I was just a little wobbly.
Melissa - ITA with the others, you're not too old!!! The only thing the doctor was telling me is that the surgery will not stop the normal changes that happen to the eyes over the age of 40, so you could still require reading glassess later. However, you also have the choice to get one eye corrected for near-sightedness and one for far-sightedness. One of my patients had it done and he doesn't need reading glasses anymore and can also see distances fine. The brain just adapts I guess.
My doc warned me about fluctuating vision for the next month or so. Also, I have to use 3 different drops 4x/day for a week and one drop 4x/day for 9 months. Plus flaxseed capsules each day for 3 months which are supposed to improve tear quality.
OH, and he said I could work out today but not to rub my eyes if sweat gets in them. He said the sweat won't hurt them but I think I'll wear a headband like some of you suggested.
Thanks everyone for your input, I enjoyed reading about your experiences.
