I'm getting LASIK today!

Well the surgery went great. The doctor checked me again this morning and I'm almost 20/15 in both eyes. No grittiness or dryness yet, just still a tad fuzzy. I keep telling my husband what a miracle this is - I'm sure he'll get sick of it by the end of the day. I'm SO happy. I didn't anticipate how this surgery could effect my MOOD!

Shana - they gave me 5 mg of Valium, I'm not sure how strong that is. Anyway, I did fall asleep while waiting for the surgery but once they woke me I was able to go right into the operating room...I was just a little wobbly.

Melissa - ITA with the others, you're not too old!!! The only thing the doctor was telling me is that the surgery will not stop the normal changes that happen to the eyes over the age of 40, so you could still require reading glassess later. However, you also have the choice to get one eye corrected for near-sightedness and one for far-sightedness. One of my patients had it done and he doesn't need reading glasses anymore and can also see distances fine. The brain just adapts I guess.

My doc warned me about fluctuating vision for the next month or so. Also, I have to use 3 different drops 4x/day for a week and one drop 4x/day for 9 months. Plus flaxseed capsules each day for 3 months which are supposed to improve tear quality.

OH, and he said I could work out today but not to rub my eyes if sweat gets in them. He said the sweat won't hurt them but I think I'll wear a headband like some of you suggested.

Thanks everyone for your input, I enjoyed reading about your experiences.:D

Congratulations Bethany! I'm so happy that it all went so well! I'm still hoping to get this done maybe next year, but I really need to also address the double vision or I'll still have to wear glasses. I have prism in mine to correct the DV. I've had to have that since I was in high school. I probably actually needed it before then, but don't think they had any way to correct it when I was younger, so I was always closing one eye to read or see just one, which weakened my other eye! I've worn glasses since elementary school and sure would love to get rid of them!

Anyway, take care and I'm so glad for you that the surgery went so well!

Bethany -great news!! DH had already had his done when I got my Lasik so he understood me reading every single license plate on the way home, every clock in the house, words on TV, etc :D:D:D Well, at least you didn't have to be fed Cheetos and regular Coke, and feel like they were trying to kill you in an effort to wake you up!

Bethany~ I had it done, too. Mine was about 12 years ago though. I had the same issue with the valium. They wanted to give me TEN mg and I refused and took half, which was still plenty!!

I had some halos at first, but for only about a week. I have had perfect vision ever since! I am 40 years old now (just turned), and I absolutely LOVE being able to see! My vision was terrible before (couldn't see the big "E" on the chart either)! It is such a wonderful change!

I challenge those of you thinking of doing it (but are afraid...I totally understand about the expense of it keeping you from getting it done). Picture yourself on the other end of the surgery. It is all over. You were brave and you CAN SEE NOW!!! It made such a huge difference in my quality of life ( I can do water sports now!). I am not afraid of so many things, that glasses and contacts limited me from!

I am so happy for you!!!! :)
