I would like a success story!

Hello Cathe and all!

I've been working out since June of last year. I started walking, then I started doing beginner tapes by the firm, then I started going to the gym and I mostly did the elliptical and weight training...my workouts usually lasted for an hour with 30min. of cardio. Then I started doing a Cathe tape, Body Max. I bought it thinking it was a beginner tape but as I watched it I saw that it wasn't but I decided to do it anyway. I really enjoy it and I've grown to love you Cathe because of it. But, my concern is that I'm not loosing any weight.

After 6 months I was expecting to see a little change but I haven't seen anything. I'm getting really discouraged because I don't' know what else to do and the last thing I want to do is quit. I have made mistakes as far as eating and not exercising everyday, but I don't believe they were big enough mistakes to stop me from getting results. I'm 22 yrs. old and I am 5'4" I'm not sure how much I weigh but the last time I checked which was around Christmas time I weighed 165. My goal is to be 135-145. So, to sum it all up I need to know what I am doing wrong! I saw a success story posted by a young lady, who looks great by the way, and I just want that same victory. Do you have any suggestion, PLEASE HELP!!!!;(

I can tell you what's worked/working for me. Eating as clean as you can works (as everyone here already knows I've dropped 13-1/2lbs. in 15 days, doing nothing but eating clean). Up till I injured my right shoulder and went back to working ridiculous hours I was doing a three-day split with abs training using heavy weights and cardio (usually running on my treadmill or LowMax) on the days in between. But I couldn't actually see the results underneath the thick layer of fat until I started dabbling in clean eating. I still need to get back to serious working out but it's generally accepted that:
1) Clean Eating,
2) 3 or 4-day split weight training, using challenging weights and
3) Cardio...
are the standard fitness triumvirate. Doing all three will net you better results faster. 22 is waaaaay too young to just give up. You need to educate yourself about the science of fitness so you understand WHY you're not getting results and what you need to do to fix the problem. Information is power and there are loads of excellent sources (books, magazines, websites...) to help you. Search the Cathe boards and you'll find lots of book recommendations. I check out just about everything anyone here mentions. I learned about clean eating HERE so this is a great place to start. Good luck.

Thanks a bunch! I try to educate myself as much as I can, but I don't have much time to devote to it. I'm married, working full time, very active in church, and active pursuing my dreams and soon I will be back in school. So, I squeeze my research time in when I can. When I go back to school I plan on educating myself more that way. But, thanks for the advice...I'm glad someone responded. Be Blessed and congrats with your success.

Hi,

Eating clean is definitely the answer. I have been following the Body for Life program for 10 days now and I have noticed a big difference in my body. I have been working out for years and nothing has changes my body more than eating clean.

Check out Banslug's 12 week challenge success story under the "Success Stories" on the Cathe forum. She has motivated about 40 women to follow the BFL program. I got my book from my local library and the Eating for Life book as well. It has great receipes, and they are super easy to make. My main problem was snacking and there are plenty of mid meal snacks to choose from in the book.

Check it out, it can't hurt.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going there now and will be checking out this book now.

It seems like I could have written your post except I have been at this longer. I know how frustrating it can be not getting the results that you would like but as everyone has said eating clean is definately the answer. Oxygen magazine has a couple of issues about the subject Nutrition and one about Clean Eating that may be helpful. Or you can try weight watchers the core program. I just started eating clean yesterday and the scale is down 1.4 pounds today already.

Thanks Gals!

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who responded with great advice. I looked into eating clean and I decided to go for it. What do I have to lose, right??...Expect for all of this extra weight! I'm really excited because I want something that will teach me how to change my life style when it comes to eating and clean eating seems like a good way to start. I know that it may be a little expensive but I am welling to fit that change in my budget and if my husband agrees I'm sure this is an answer from the Lord and it will turn out for the best. I just ordered the book, the cook book, and the workout book with the DVD and as I get started I will be sure to post my success story for all of you to see! I am truly grateful because I just didn't know where to turn. With so much out here you never really know what is genuine and what isn't. So thanks again for sharing your knowledge with me. Be blessed!!
