I wish this were a joke....

A 34-yr. old employee was trampled to death when shoppers stampeded a Walmart in Valley Spring, Long Island early this morning. He was taken to a hospital and announced dead on arrival.

I also just heard that a shopper in Secaucus NJ was trampled and rushed to a hospital.

If I didn't hear it with my own ears, there would be no way I would believe this stuff....

Oh no...that is horrible. WTH is wrong with people!!

DS started work at 4:00 AM this morning at Best Buy. We drove past his building last night on the way to Thanksgiving dinner and people had already set up tents and chairs:confused:

I saw video of the crowd rushing in the doors of the Secaucus Walmart this morning on the news. I was shaking my head thinking to myself that this is why I refuse to go shopping on Black Friday. YIKES!

And I saw on our local news that the store is responsible for all of the stuff people leave in front of it. We are talking tents, chairs and trash. Sadly, I think people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas and the Holiday Spirit.

A life lost for a 10 or 20 dollar savings on something you didn't really need anyway. The consumerism is awful, people's behavior is awful and the stores are somewhat responsible. :(:(:(:(
They need to stop this "door buster" mentality and just offer the product for sale like everything else. Ridiculous camping outside, storming doors and killing people for a so called deal. Just too tragic

I couldn't believe it either when I heard it on the news this morning. This is exactly why I stay home the day after Thanksgiving. People are ruthless when it comes to those sales. How tragic for that man's poor family.

I also heard on the news this morning that this is the 25th anniversary of the rush on stores for the Cabbage Patch Dolls. I still remember what my mom had to go through to get me one of those dolls for Christmas. I still have it too:)

ETA: I just reread my post and realized it might sound offensive to somebody who enjoys Black Friday shopping. I understand that it's a tradition for some people and they enjoy trying to get the best deals they can. I have nothing against that it's just not something I enjoy personally. Some people do get out of hand with it but I know that's not everyone.

Same...I blame Walmart. I use to shop in that Walmart when I live in NY.

The Walmart in Rocky Mount NC was open for 24 hours so people can come in Thanksgiving night, shop and then wait on line for 10 hours if they wanted to. The sale in this walmart did not start until 5:00. Plus they had plenty of sale items, coffee etc.

A worker at Sams Club near me said that this may be the last black Friday sale because they are not making the extra money that they should.

What an incredibly sad statement on our culture :-( That saving some money on something that is not in itself a life or death matter leads to such behavior totally bewilders me.

People are selfish at heart. I don't blame the store, rather those who are so self-absorbed that they don't care what happens to anyone else.

another sad report

2 people killed inside Calif. Toys 'R' Us
The Palm Desert store is located east of Los Angeles
an argument between two teenagers preceded the shooting. A third person, a male, apparently pulled out a gun.

how sad it truly is that we, as a society in general, have allowed greed (disguised as savings) to cloud our judgement and turn once decent human beings into something they don't recognize... I'm sure that the tramplings were not intentional like the above was, still a true tragedy!

You are soooo right about losing site of the true meaning of Christmas.

What a sad, sad day for this family. My heart goes out to them.

OMG
How horrible for him and his family.

What is wrong with people (I just can't understand the mob rush to buy cheap stuff)?

I've heard of this happening at rock concerts, but I wouldn't have believed there would be enough people, or as pushy people, wanting into Walmart.

For several years, I've avoided stores on Black Friday: this is just another reminder why.

I agree...I've never understood the Black Friday thing, but I'm also not a shopper
