I graduated Nursing School!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU again!

Ally....CONGRATS! WOW, cardiac surgery? Is that a tele floor or a surgery floor?? I was considering nights but I am just not sure. I love days...I love sunshine...etc...I wonder if I would just end up depressed all the time??? The slower pace, less people around, more time to think, etc of nights appeals to me but how do you know if you can do it BEFORE you accept the job?? I would hate to be stuck in something I physically could not do. My health and quality of life is much more important to me than my job. Plus, I work POOL right now and literally make my own schedule since I work in an ER. I can work as many or as little hours as a want. I have been spoiled!! Kinda hard for me to leave that even if I make way less money...

Dawn....it took me, with prereqs, over 3 years to get an ADN degree. Here, they are changing all that now and putting some of the prereqs into the program because it is taking ADN grads, like me, over 3 years to grad. The only reason I did not go university route for my BSN is because of the wait. It was much longer and much more expensive. I figured I would get the degree, work, and let my employer pay for it all, ha ha. I've applied for many things....med surg renal, neuro med surg, icu, post partum.

if you can believe this, I had an interview yesterday, woke up barely able to swallow (I never get sick) and had to RESCHEDULE!! I felt so bad and thought maybe I should have just toughed it out but by lastnight I had a 101.5 fever. Still running low grade temp. Cold I guess. And I graduate tomorrow night!!! Guess there won't be much partying for me! Oh, the timing!! Grrrr...x( x(

Janice,

Thanks for your good thoughts for me! I totally hear you, about starting at night. I'm not 100% convinced, but I'm so excited about the area that I decided I just have to give it a try. I agree that nights should be a good learning time, a little slower, more time to think...and I've told myself that if, after a year, it just isn't working, I'll simply have to move on. My hope, though, is that it will only take about a year before a day position opens. We'll see! I've never been a night person, so this definitely feels like a leap for me! (This is the floor I interned on last summer, so that gives me somewhat of a reference point...)

"My" new unit is an admit-to-discharge floor for open heart surgeries, plus other heart procedures, MIs, caths, etc; all patients are on telemetry. I really like this patient population, and find the heart so interesting.

I'm sorry you had to miss your interview! Bad timing, indeed! I hope it goes well, when it happens; and as others have said, you'll definitely be able to find something that fits your needs. I can imagine how nice your current situation has been!

I hope you're back on your feet and ready to enjoy your big night tomorrow! You've earned it, in spades!!
Very best wishes!
Ally
