I feel sorry for Conan O'Brien

I feel that he's been treated badly by NBC, but obviously he'll be just fine (which he has stated). I give him credit for fighting for more money for his staff. They are who I feel sorry for - they uprooted their families to move cross-country and then get screwed.
NBC doesn't seem to get that the Jay Leno ratings issue likely had more to do with the fact that the show wasn't good than anything else. I don't really understand why they didn't just let Jay go and have that be the end of it. Obviously, a lot behind the scenes we don't know about.

Ha! I posted this on FB today (at the time I had the amount wrong):

That greedy prima donna Conan O'Brien should give his $25 mil to Haiti. Hundreds of thousands dead, survivors' lives have been destroyed, people in the US are losing their jobs, homes, health insurance, etc., & this dingleberry has the nerve to whine about his show being pushed back 30 minutes? Well boo-freakin-hoo for him. Let's see him do something worthwhile with his money for a change.

He actually does - there was some other thing a while back that some celebrity was raising money for and Conan plugged it on his show and then said he would match whatever the total amount raised was (I don't remember what it was for). He's also been plugging Ben Stiller's organization (stillerstrong.org) which is giving all of it's money to Haiti relief. He does charity stuff quite a bit actually.

I've always loved any show Conan has done. He has a dry, kooky thing going on. I was surprised but very happy when he got the Tonight Show gig. The Tonight Show has a long history, and it seems most comedians respect it for what it is. To me, it seems like Jay Leno is disrespecting that history by not walking away from the whole thing. But, I do agree, there just has to be more to it that what we've learned so far. Who knows. I'm sure it's all money-related, though.

Maybe Conan will inherit David Lettermen's show (again) someday?!?

Did y'all know that he actually rallied for $12 million to be shared between the crew that followed him from New York to L.A.? I thought that was very honorable...to take care of the people who uprooted their lives and believed in his show.

I feel sad for both...Conan and Jay...it must be a no win situation for either of them. And for the audiences who loved them both.

I wish them both all the best. ALL the best. Anyone who makes an occupation out of making people laugh...we need more of that in this world.

i read that he is giving some of his money to his staff, in addition to what nbc will pay them. don't know what he'll do with the rest, i hope he is a charitable guy. he was given less time than jay to establish an audience and then nbc trashed him. he had a contract and nbc broke it, so good for conan. i'm sure jeff zucker who has run nbc into the ground would get paid several multiples of this amount for being a dismal failure, and he's had more than enough time to prove himself. i never watched conan but i don't like the way nbc handled the whole thing and i'm happy he got a good deal. wall street executives, politicians, we could go on and on about greedy prima donnas, at least conan didn't steal money from anyone. of course, i think these figures are ridiculous, but that's the market. i wish i could get such a deal myself.

All kidding aside, I have absolutely nothing against Conan. I was just posting about how happy it would make ME to be paid $32M to stop working! :D A dream come true.

Me, too, Nancy...I'd hire a personal chef and travel to warm places where they serve drinks in a coconut.
