I am afraid of MIC!

Hi! I have watched MIC DVD three times now and I am afraid to do it!! It looks soooo intense that I just don't know if I will be able to get through it without calling 911 LOL! Cathe is incredible. How does she keep jumping so high! Mainly I am afraid of the hi/low portion, I think that I could get through the step parts without too much trouble. I have done almost all of her other workouts except for the imax's. Intervals 1-5 are all I have tackled at one time with those tortuous workouts. Can someone please motivate me to try the MIC!! Reassure me that it is possible to get through the DVD without a doctor and ambulance ready!
PS I love Cathe and am in awe of, and motivated by all her workouts!

Okay fitnurse! Its really not so bad. When I first stared, I did the Hi/Lo part only and skipped the step part. Yes, I was a chicken, too. Just go for it! Once you get started, it goes by fast. Don't think you have to do every jump that she does. She even tells you to modify if you want to. Fear is your worst enemy. Have your AED ready and get to it!

MIC is FUN!!! But, it is probably the most difficult workout I have ever done in my life, intensity wise. You will be so proud of yourself and feel so good about yourself once you do it! I read on another post somewhere that someone did the step portion first since it was easier than the hi/lo and that way your body is more ready for the intense floor aerobics.

GOOD LUCK! You can do it!

MIC was my first Cathe video along with bodymax and then cardio kicks. For me, it is a relief when we get to the step portion-I can finally breathe. LOL Cathe's pretty tricky at working into the high intensity, she starts off slow, but be prepared. It is a fun workout and as mentioned before, can easily be broken down into 2 parts. You'll feel so much better after you just do it once. Make sure to have plenty of water handy, you will definitely need it.

Have fun...

When I first did MIC I had to stop for water every ten minutes. Now I have to remind myself to drink my water.

It is very, very intense but it's also a lot of fun. Like others have said, there are modifications. And, you will feel so good about yourself when it's over.

Lots of times I just do the Hi/Lo portion and about 10 minutes of the step portion. The step moves and the music go together so well, I feel more like I'm dancing than exercising.

Go for it.....you will live.

I would suggest doing the step portion first and then do the hi/lo. Someone had suggested this to me when I first got the workout. It really is more "doable" this way if you are just doing this workout for the first time. Hope this helps!!

Aila:)

During the hi/lo portion, you can easily take out some of the jumping, or you can even jog in place for a bit of a breather. She starts off quite easy for the hi/lo part and make sure you take full advantage of this - get a very thorough, gentle warm up. After the hi/lo, pause your tape for as long as you need to catch your breath and drink some water. For the step part, start out on a 6", or even 4" step height. I find her moves appear to be simple, but each and every one of them is intense. The sashays in the beginning of the step of deceptively intense - you can easily replace these with other travel moves, such as mambos or figure eights, and power 3's, with or without impact. When she runs on the step, to "keep up the intensity", you can do basic steps, or snatch a sip of water.

This is a very solid workout, but will probably take a bit of practice until you learn how to best pace yourself.

Let us know how you do!!

Maria, be afraid, be very afraid!;-) No, really it is a long cardio workout, and though doable, I like to break this one up and add weights. You may want to do each section separately the first time through, or as a previous poster said, do the step portion first and then hi/low. What I did the first time: just kept going and didn't think about how tough it was. You are alone working out, no one to watch you, if you want to cheat go ahead and cheat. We won't tell! }( :7

Hi Maria,

I understand what you are talking about with MIC. I just did this workout yesterday morning. I find that if I look at my clock and know exactly out much time each section lasts it helps me get through it. For example, when doing the hi/low floor section I can look at the clock and know how much more time I have left. I am my own cheer leader, always pushing myself to finish. Cathe is also very good at starting you out slow and gradually increasing the intensity. I think that you will be able to do this and you will surprise yourself. Set your goal and then meet it. Let me know how you did. I am cheering you on.:) :)

I have completed MIC 2 times now and wow--eee what a great work out.
It did make me feel great copmpleting it. It was one of my first videos, I don't have it on dvd like all my other cathe's but maybe I should get in on DVD. It is the best cardio work out I have ever tried. I guess with all this talk I need to try it again, maybe Saturday in case I need help walking up the stairs.

Have a great day all, I am off to work out.

Have fun Maria enjoy, you will love it.

HA HA FAB40 TOO FUNNY, I think maybe I was a little scared of trying too, but I got through it, LOL.}( :D

I got this workout about a month ago and did the hi/lo on the rebounder - perceived exhertion - near death :)

I haven't even previewed the step yet - I think I'll try all your suggestions too and try it with the step first.

Do you all find that Cathe's earlier routines are harder than the later ones?

I finally did it!! It was not half as bad as I thought it would be. I modified a bit and did not jump as much as Cathe. I will be doing this one again! Thanks for all your encouragment!

Good for you Maria. See, we told you it really wasn't that bad, and each time you do it, it will get easier and easier. Keep working hard.

Ok, this was my first Cathe video, and I love it AND...... I have never made it all the way through without stopping at least twice. Its hard, but the hi/lo moves are SO FUN!!! ANd like someone else said, you'll feel GREAT about yourself if you try it! I see this one as something I can work towards - someday in the future, I'll actually be able to make it through the whole thing, but I'm just not going to feel bad about it right now. The first time you try it, just reward yourself for even doing that - don't worry about not being able to get too far without stopping for breath. I was like that before Cathe - felt like I should always be able to get through a video (and usually could). But Cathe is genuinely the most advanced person I've ever found, and I'm glad I can't get through her videos - it gives me a goal for the first time! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I admit I cheated on the way to doing MIC. I substituted easier hi/lo workouts for the first half. I did NAC Interval Challenge and Gilad's Fat Burning workout combined with the step portion. Both of these workouts had impact, but not as much as MIC's first half. When I got to the point where I could do these combos easily, I finally got the nerve to do MIC as is. Another way would be to do MIC step combined with the hi lo portions of Step, Jump and Pump. You could gradually add in each of the short floor aerobics sections as you became more fit.

Edited to add, I did Gilad or NAC with MIC step, not all three.

something I do is split up the video - do strength (like half of PUB) then the first half of MIC. Next day do more strength (other half of PUB) and the second half of MIC. makes it easier to tackle! plus, I like mixing my strength up with cardio - keeps things interesting!
