How to determine a good weight for dumbbells on your vids??

Hi, Cathe...or anyone who may be able to help on this one...

How do you determine a good weight to use on your more strength oriented videos, such as Muscle Max, or Pyramind Upper/Lower.

If it helps at all...I am 6 feet, 1 inch tall...go about 255...and don't have a ton of experience with dumbbell training, and I certainly don't want to start too light or too heavy, for that matter.

Thanks!!

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Not Cathe, and by no means any kind of expert but I would suggest experimenting starting by using whatever weight Cathe has for each exercise.

You'll know soon enough if that's too light for you (or too heavy, I guess). If you get to the end of the set and feel like you could still keep going - you'll need more weight next time.

Since you are tall, you may easily need to go heavier since you have a natural advantage with leverage.

I'm a shorty, and pretty new to strength training so I generally cut my weight by half. She says 10 I get 5, etc.

HTH!!

You just have to feel your way...if Cathe says 10 pounds, you can try 10 pounds...if it's too light for you, you can go heavier. If it's too heavy for you, you can go lighter. I write down the weights that I use so I know if I need to adjust. If I need a heavier weight I will write down an up arrow and the next time I'll know to go to the next weight up (and visa versa).

RE: How to determine a good weight for dumbbells on you...

Also, make sure you can do all reps with good form...once your last rep or two starts to get tough & you feel like you are going to start to lose good form, you know you went heavy enough.
