Just curious to see if more people wouldn't miss the President than the Oscars. I enjoy both and like to talk back to the screen on both occasions, venting my dismay or pleasure.

No way am I gonna watch that self congratulatory fashion show BS!

Oh wait, I already posted that in another thread.......:7

But I'm standing by my statement, except for the fashion part of it.......:p

>Hah! Reminds me of the saying, "Politics is just showbiz with
>ugly people."

That's hilarious!

Not sure if you like academic humor, but here's another one I heard yesterday (trying to cheer you up!):

What do you get when you cross a Sicilian with a deconstructionist? An offer you can't understand.

Come on, you could make a drinking game out of how many times they show Ted Kennedy!

This thing has entertainment value beyond belief. You can watch the Republicans stand and applaud while the Democrats sit on their hands....and visa versa.

Or you can watch to see if Dick Cheney actually...dare I say...?

smiles?

COOL! A new bewbie thread. . . . as in bewbie tewbie! I'm going to sit this one out - maybe go stick my head in the sand or something! :p

ROTFLMAO! OK here's a drinking game someone actually sent me yesterday:

State of the Union Address Drinking Game
Every time Bush says:
"hard work" = 1 drink
"nukular" = 1 drink
"fiscal discipline" = laugh out loud, then drink
"Scooter Libby"; or other reference to "Plamegate" = poke a hole in your cup and drink from the leak
defends the NSA surveillance program = drink while looking over the shoulder of the person next to you
"New Orleans" = take dark chocolate ... mix it wit white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink” that you should then drink.

its playing it by ear tonight. if viola is good we will watch it, if we are having diffucltys we might have to have all televisions in the house off. its been one of those months with viola

This is too funny, but he left one thing out. How many drinks should you have for each time that Bush plays the 9/11 card?

RE: How many of you are watching the State of the Union...

There's been times that these have been good. I'm not a "W" fan but he speech he gave at the State of the Union after 9/11 was a masterpiece, he lifted the country, he continued to solidify the people. I've listened to the State of the Union address after Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt did a great job.

Unfortunately regardless of their party affiliations these speeches become self congratulatory or the president's pipe dreams for the future which may or may not match what the Congress or the people are going to share.

In this information age we hardly need the president to tell us the State of the Union. People in the north are debating which bills to pay so they can buy oil for heat while Exxon tries to justify the largest corporate profits in history. If you work for Ford, will you have a job next year? People who live on the gulf coast are wondering if they'll ever be settled again. Every union strike last year, health care was the major issue.

I don't express these thoughts to blame the President, but he's not going to be able to stand at that podium and put a positive spin on a tanking economy. Herbert Hoover didn't cause the depression but he was at the helm when it happenned and he tried to ignore it. In doing so he caught a lot of grief.

What's actually worse than any State of the Union, is the opposing party speech that's delivered afterwards. I don't care who the sitting president is, bashing him right afterwards doesn't exactly seem to be fair play. Let the people digest it, think about and come up with their own conclusions.

Good luck tonight Mr. President, for the country's sake I hope you deliver a great speech!
