How did you meet your SO?????

What a great thread! The pictures are all lovely!

I met my sweetie online, too. We met on a local band's forum. Started PMing and really hit it off. We agreed to meet at a nearby restaurant/bar. I arrived before he did and proceeded into the bar area, ordered a drink and sat where I could watch the door. I waited. I sent a text message to his cell saying, "You're not gonna stand me up, are you?" I waited. I called the number and got his voice mail. After 45 minutes, I left, disgusted. I'd never been stood up in my life.

The next time we were both online, he sent me a PM saying, "Why did you stand me up?" Angry, sent one back, "I didn't stand you up. You stood ME up!" After some discussion, we discovered he had entered the restaurant side after I had taken my seat at the bar and had gotten a table where he could watch the front door. After waiting half an hour and being pitied by his waitress, he ordered a solitary dinner and left alone.

Evidently, when he stuck his head in the bar side, I was looking down, sending my text message and he didn't see me. As it turns out, he doesn't have a cell phone. The number he'd given me was his home phone, so my text message flew out into cyberspace. Once we'd straightened all that out, we had a good laugh and agreed to try again the next weekend. This time, I made him pick me up. This was in January and we've been together ever since. We plan to marry sometime next year.

For my birthday last summer, he treated me to a "prom night" because I'd confided I couldn't get a date and hadn't gotten to go to my senior prom. Wrist corsage and the whole nine yards. Here's a pic...

My DH and I met in college. He lived next door to me. I don't remember our first meeting, but apparently I asked him to help me get a cat out of a tree. He didn't. A few months later, though I did notice him. It was hard not to. It was summer and my roommate and I went to the pool every day. He kept showing up at the pool at the same time we were there. I was so clueless, my roommate had to point out that he was interested in me! Eventually, he got his courage up and asked me out. Our first date was on June 20, and on the 4th of July, I fell asleep on his bed watching tennis, when I woke up I knew I was going to marry him. We have been together for 24 years now, married for nearly 21 years. :)

DH and I worked for the same company for years, and were elevator acquaintances for about the same amount of time. In the summer of 1993 I wound up on his work team, and the more I worked with him the more interested I got in him. One late afternoon when we were both working overtime, I caught him alone at his desk, duct-taped him to his chair, pinched his nostrils shut and said, "Do you want to go out with me or what?!" He gargled "Uh huh", and we went out about a week and a half after that. We became engaged within about 4 weeks, and were married in May 1995. I still had hair on my head then.

LOL! You're half-kidding.....right?   }(

Nothing near as dramatic as duct taping my DH to a chair, but I was responsible for us getting together. We went to the same small branch campus of Penn State. He was kind of the class clown who everyone knew. I told a mutual friend I wished I knew him, cause he always seemed to be having fun. She introduced us, we became fast friends, and several months later, we decided the relationship was more romance than friendship. It's been fun, just like I thought it would, for going on 28 years of marriage.
Great thread and great pictures everyone. Thanks for sharing.

Laura - oops - ya got me. I was half-kidding - we went out only a week after that. He filed for a restraining order on me, but blew off the court hearing so it was okay.

In a college organization I pulled his name in a raffle. Called his house and left a message. Then later that day I meet him at a party that a different organization was giving (neither of us made the name connection with the raffle). Later in the week he called to collect his prize for the raffle we realized we had meet at the party. We spent 6 hours talking on the phone that night. He got off the phone woke up his brother at 3am and said, "I am going to marry that girl." 4 years later he did.

wow this is such an interesting heart felt topic..I love all the stories.
Emily and Dani, I love the wedding pictures, they are beautiful. I need to remember the dip is important when me and SO get married next year.
Carol, Debbie, darkangel those are great picturues of you and your SO's. And Yas your daughter is adorable and I hope she is lucky enough to find as great a man as you did.

Me and my SO met 4 years ago when I started working at the same small company as him. I was interning there during part of college so I was only there a year. When I gave my 2 week notice he asked me out for drinks. When went out that friday and then again the next friday to celebrate my last day. We started hanging out everyday and after a year he moved in with me. We've had some good and bad times but he knows me and understands me better than anyone I have ever known. Here is a picture of us last year when everyone kept bugging us that they had no pictures of us together (especially out parents).

Well, I was 20 and he was 18. We met when I transfered into a college where he was a freshman. I was still realing from a breakup with a man that I thought was the love of my life but just ended up being my "bad boy" story.

DH and I didn't date until a year later but we used to hang out in a group together. I remember the first impression I had about him was that his eyes sparkled when he smiled at me. I was very taken with him but also quite timid because of the bad boy (see above). He didn't immediately ask me out because I was old and he thought I was probably too experienced?!! Believe me, I've never let him forget how insulted I was at that crack. At that point in my life, I could have qualified for Nun status. But, we kind of laugh about it now.

We have been together for 24 years this December and married for 21. He still sparkles when he smiles if he isn't too stressed about work..LOL He's a keeper.

Brenda--I'm 2 years older than my husband also and for one awful week in June, I'm 3 years older:p :p :p .

Great topic!!

I met my DH at a bar during my freshman yr in college. I was sitting at a table with a group of guys thinking that at least ONE of them would ask me to dance. After I convinced myself that maybe they just didn't feel like dancing, he asked one of my friends that had walked by. She said 'no' so he turned to me and asked if I would. Feeling like a consolation prize (yet desperate to dance), I said yes.

We've been together for almost 16 years, and we'll celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary next Sat. I'm still friends with the girl who turned him down. She drives him crazy (I can only stand her in small bits though too) and I love to tease him about what 'coulda been'. :7
