Horizontal conditioning

Has anyone tried these? Which set should I start with, the getting started set or is it good enough to recommend the whole 8 DVDs as the best bargain? Is it a worthwhile endeavour? I like the minimal equipment idea .

I've been doing Horizontal Conditioning since about June twice a week and it has done amazing things for my core and upper body! I actually have more definition and strength in my upper body than when I was doing weights, actually. I think it's because with body weight exercise you can't cheat and go with a lighter weight ;). Your body weight is what it is!

I jumped right in with Volumes 1-4 and the Bootcamp. I didn't care for the clips of the "Getting" ones because there was no music and that was a bit off putting for me. Warning: Bootcamp is VERY tough! lol Actually, I find volume 4 extremely hard too. The stability ball work is really challenging balance-wise. I think most Cathlete's could bypass the Getting videos and go right to the more challenging volumes and BC.

One thing you have to be okay with is the fact that Sandra's production values and filming isn't up to Cathe standards. The lighting, sound, etc couuld be better. Sandra has just started producing videos, though. She created HC and originally used the videos she made to sell to other trainers so they could use her concepts in their classes. Through VF and Total Fitness, I think she's been selling quite a few videos now and is realizing there really is a market out there for her tough workouts!

Colleen, you are making me wonder if I should re-look at these workouts. There was a lot of buzz about them on FB so I got one. I didn't get the the Getting Started, but went with the second of the three (Getting Stonger maybe). It has 3 workouts on it and although they were tough, I could do them all. Like you said though, there was no music and the energy level just seems so low. I have not picked them up again and decided not to order any of the others based on that experience. Is there anything that you think the bootcamp one compares to. That is the one that interests me the most right now, so thinking I might give it a shot.....Thanks,

Pam

Hmmm, I can't think of a comparable workout to the Bootcamp. The workout is broken down into 1 minute of plyometrics ("vertical conditioning";)) and 1 minute of Horizontal work which is of course lots of variations on plank type work. I have to admit, this one is extremely difficult for me and I think I'm fairly fit for the most part. I can do Afterburn, the extreme premix of To the Max and Crossfire, Drill Max, etc. but this one kicks my heiny . My favorite HC's are Volume 2 and Volume 3. They are great total body workouts. Volume 4 is good too, although the balance aspect really challenges me!

I've been doing HC for almost 3 months now. I'm a member of her monthly program so I receive a new HC Hardcore workout each month. I also bought all of the 101's. I do HC 2 times per week and have seen the best results EVER in my arms. I've always had a hard time getting cuts in my arms even with light weight/high rep workouts. HC has totally transformed my arms. I'm so much stronger too. I love HC. All of the workouts are the same but yet so different. They are strangely addicting. I skipped the getting started ones and went right for the volume's and the bootcamp one. I think they are totally worth getting even if you are only doing them once per week. Sandra is super nice too and if you email her with any questions/concerns, she will respond within the day. HTH.

For those of you that have them, do you do the workout as a full body strength training or are they just core work? I want to do these to help strengthen my core and upper body, but I'm not sure how they would fit into a rotation.

These workouts are mainly my core and upper body workouts. I've gotten so much stronger in my upper body from them! She does do some leg/glute work to break up the plank stuff, but I find it's not enough lower body work for me. I do mostly Cathe for my lower body and will usually do at least one Cathe lower body disc a week as well as cardio (lately it's been mostly Cathe's two newest for Hiit or else LIS's AB, CSS or AT).

I actually just posted a question to Cathe regarding how to combine this type of training with XTrain...I'm not sure how I will combine the two when it comes out or if doing both together would be too much muscle work (?).

They are total body but have more of a focus on upper body/core. The leg work she does do burns!!! I do 2 HC workouts and 1 leg day. My 3 other days are cardio only.

Do you feel like you burn lots of calories from these or do you rely more on the cardio work for that?

I feel I burn a fair amount of calories as I'm working super hard and these are very challenging. I'm a sweaty mess when I'm done!

You know, it's funny because these aren't considered cardio (except Bootcamp) and yet my heart is pounding and sweat is pouring off me when I do them! I'm like "how can this not be cardio?" lol I do keep the cardio in though. Lately I've been crazy in love with Cathe's To the Max and Crossfire. I just love Hiit/tabata workouts so much and these are my absolute favorites right now. I actually have to hold myself back...if I could get away with it I'd do them a lot more! :D

I agree with everyone else. I do keep my other cardios in, and I work legs heavy (really heavy) 1x week, but I am drenched with these. I only have 3 of them, BC, Volume 4, and one of the hard core clubs. I aim for 2x week, but I also do a split that hits every muscle group on a different day.

I have Vol.1 and I just tried Boot Camp. Holy guacamole! I could not make it through Boot Camp. I did 40 minutes and turned it off. I have never had to discontinue a DVD before. I think I will get the other Volumes before attempting this again.

I recently tried the Volume 1 DVD; it is a great workout! So unique, there is nothing else like it!

There are some things I will need to modify (I have bit of a wrist issue) but I definitely am looking forward to doing it again.

Shipping for the one DVD is only $3.00 (the DVD was only $19.99) so I don't think it's too bad of a deal to just get one or two instead of buying the whole set all at one time - at least you'll know if it's something you enjoy... but seriously, what Cathlete doesn't like to work hard?!

I have been eyeballing this system for a while, so this conversation finally pushed me over the brink...I just ordered volume 1. I am also doing STS now, so I'm not sure where to put this in my rotation, but I guess I'll sub a cardio workout for this one day and see how it goes.

This workout looks very intriguing, so I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
