Holiday-ish songs that make your ears....

Okay, I sincerely hope this post was meant as a joke...:( You don't have to enjoy the song but c'mon...that was extremely uncalled for IMO.

That wasn't nice, was it? Sorry:eek::eek: I tend to have a dark sense of humor, but that really wasn't nice. apologies:eek:

Christine, I didn't mean there's anything wrong with the Salvation Army standing out there accepting donations. Hopefully we all appreciate what they do. I just don't appreciate how loud that darn bell is. : )

BTW, I was living in New Orleans when Katrina happened...couldn't go back home for 2 months.

Same here. Especially if you're right up next to it/passing right by.

In fact, last time I passed one, I was thinking how much nicer it would be if the bell had a pleasant chiming quality about it that didn't irritate the ears. I'd even be more inclined to give, perhaps! (I usually throw in my loose change, but maybe I'd toss more in).

Last year, one guy at my local Walmart was actually singing carols while ringing the bell, and he rang in a very pleasant way. That was nice as well.

I like the Dan Fogelberg song! :p

Me too!!!
I think mine goes back to meeting up with my boyfriend from college after 10 years and getting together for drinks. I really loved him but had to end it due to his "bad habits". So everytime I hear that song I reminisce about the great feelings I had.

I'm a sap and love Christmas songs, Carol of the Bells being my absolute favorite.

However, Feliz Navidad makes me homicidal.

I'm just home from the grocery store and was subjected to some horrific version of 'Jingle Bells' by Babs herself, Barbra Streisand, what were you thinking when your recorded that cacophony!! On the upside it got me the heck out of the grocery store in a hurry and for less than $20.00 :)

Take Care

December by George Winston is a holiday staple in my house. Love it. Carol of the Bells and Oh Holy Night, when done well are among the top choices.

The songs featuring wild animals running over people, cartoon characters with very high voices, and people who are better known for an occupation outside of singing leave me cold.

That "Christmas Wrapping" song by The Waitresses-- blech! (DH adores it.)

Springsteen's version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" (I love him, but this song just sounds totally off-key the WHOLE TIME!!)

The Christmas Shoes song. Who's idea was it to make that awful, horrible, sad song a Christmas song?!?!?! Brutal.

I believe Melissa did. :p

I agree ~ the shoes song leaves me feeling like complete crap, which is not what I'm looking for in a holiday song.

I had forgotton about high-pitched chipmunks. Blech!

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir does an awesome Carol of the Bells.

Jessica Simpson's "Baby its Cold Outside" duet w/ her ex Nick Lachey turns my stomach..
Also, ITA about Stevie Nick's version of Silent Night.. ewww. I thought it was a parody when I heard it the first time!

One I do like that surprises me bec. I don't care much for her is Celine Dion's, "O, Holy Night"... she definitely has the pipes to pull it off, its beautiful!

I love "all I want for christmas is you" by mariah ( i know someone said they didn't like it). I have this song on my Ipod all year. I love to exercise to it.
I am also a sucker for Rob Thomas' christmas song. Merry new york christmas. I love that man!!!

i guess i was supposed to write the one's I don't like. I always turn the carpenter's song when it comes on. Don't really care for her voice.

But mostly I love listening to Xmas music especially when I am in the mall shopping. It puts me in the mood.

The version of "Jingle Bells" with the dogs barking the "words."

And "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer." Also not my fave.

Also "Feliz Navidad." And not wild about the "Drummer Boy," either.

I had never heard Christmas Shoes until today, after reading this thread. I balled my eyes out! That song is so sad. Most Chritmas songs make me a bit tearful anyway, but seriously, I could barely see to drive.

That Dan Fogelberg (may he RIP) song is painful.

They only other one I truly despise is Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. My DD has a stuffed reindeer that plays that song. I try to hide the thing, but she keeps finding it.

My faves, though:

O Holy Night (I have a Reba McEntire version that I love)
Little Drummer Boy -David Bowie and Bing Crosby
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Ave Maria - Same CD that has Reba, has Barry Manilow singing Ave Maria. It is suprisingly beautiful.

I don't like "This Christmas" (I think that's the name of the song). I hear it
all the time. I also can't stand any whiney renditions of classic songs.

I love Bing Crosby and David Bowie's version of "Little Drummer
Boy/Peace on Earth." Happy holidays, everybody!

Did anyone mention Jingle Bells barked by dogs? Has anyone else heard that or was it just a bad dream of mine
