HiiT Parade

In case anyone is interested, I'm posting my results. I strung all the Hiits together today: 40/20 warmup + cardio, Double Wave Cardio, 30/30 Cardio, Circuit Blast Cardio + CB Stretch. According to my Polar F4, I came in at 1:23:25 (including extra time for switching disks--and tightening my shoe laces after the warmup:eek:). My average heartrate was 146, maximum HR 181 (not sure when that brief spike happened--probably the butt kicks), and calories burned = 600. I'm 42 years old, 5'2", and 122 lbs.

Go Girl!!!!!! How did you feel once it was all done? I'm wiped just from doing 1 HiiT, much less all 3 back to back! ;) It's inspiring to see the many ways one can take Cathe's workouts and combine them to make them even more challenging! :)

Wow!

Elsie,

I think I might just try that! May this Friday, as I took the day off and I'm hoping to get a good nights rest. :)

I felt really energized. I do well with hardest to easiest (read: get the butt kicks done first;)). That said, I was going to do this last Tuesday but barely made it through 40/20. It turned out that I had a bit of a stomach virus. So, wait for a high-energy "good" day, and it will super-charge you!

OH MY!

I'm still picking my chin up off the floor. I can only do one HiiT at a time with modifications.

OMG! Can you say crazy!! lol No way could I or would I do all those at once. It seems u wouldve even burned more calories then that. When I do a terminator imax extreme w/o for 75 minutes I burn over 700 calories. Wow I'm feeling like a wimp since I dont think I could do that. More power to you!!

That is amazing! I can barely make it thru HiiT 30/30. Maybe one day I will have that type of endurance. Very impressed.

Hey Elsie,

Are you modifying for the 14 inch box jumps and butt kicks?

I am in awe you could get through all those. Now I think I am going to do it....but I will have to modify those two moves.

You can ask my daughter about the first time I tried the butt kicks. She was in the room, and it wasn't a pretty sight! I can BARELY make it through now without modifications--just barely! I found it helps me to keep my arms really straight. Box jumps aren't a problem for me, and I'm really not sure why. The pictures had me scared to death! I have a hard time with the 1/4 turn squat thingies in DWP. My glutes burn. And they're the only exercise you do 4 times!

I'm really not "She-Ra the Super Iron Woman." However, I have been working on my endurance for several months now. It's amazing how fast it builds when you've got Cathe "encouraging" you in evil ways.;)

Now we could talk about those "insane" Insanity people . . . . I mean that with the highest awe and admiration, of course.:D

Hey Elsie!

I am absolutely terrified of the Box Jumps at 14 inches.

I "think" I can make it throgh the butt kicks at 14 in though.

You have officially inspired me to do the HIIT Insanity Parade Workout.

I can't believe you began with 40/20! But I am going to do it first, then the Pyramids and top it off with 30/30.

I am going to try this on Saturday evening or Sunday. Fridays are my rest day.

Great way to head into my active recovery week, isn't it?

You've certainly put the "active" in active recovery.:D Good luck! You are wise to be careful on the box jumps. I stumbled a little once and fortunately recovered quickly, but it could be bad if your feet don't land right.

Missing the point?

Not to knock your achievement at all - it's very impressive -but the whole idea of HIIT is that you work so hard in the a short period of time that you CAN'T do more than about 20 minutes.

If you're able to do all that in a row, you aren't doing the program for its intended purpose (as I understand it). Sounds like it was certainly a pretty high intensity long cardio session, but not true HIIT. If you don't find the intervals hard enough in one work out, jump higher, move faster - but you should be spent at the end.

I've found the fitter I've got, the harder I've pushed in HIIT, and they keep getting harder - really, like you're going to throw up you've worked so hard! I thought I was going to yak 3 times yesterday when I did 30/30 - the 'easy' one, becuase I was able to put so much more effort into the intervals than when I started the program....

I've not doubt you've got mad cardio skills and wicked endurance, but I just wanted to weigh in :)

You're absolutely right. That's why I did them all together--because it wasn't like a true HiiT workout for me. I've done HiiT (30/30) running up a steep mountain road and I absolutely couldn't go longer than 30 seconds and was spent after 20 minutes. Your idea of pushing harder is a good one.

And I need to add that it was a very high-energy day for me. I'm now in Week 3 of Meso 1--feeling much more spent--and no way will be attempting it again soon.

Ah! Well that makes much more sense!

Hats off to you for doing it at all - one of the reasons I love HIIT is that I really hate extended cardio (unless it's a hike or bike ride or some kind of sport for fun)! I'm naturally inclined to be a sprinter, not an endurance person, so they're right up my alley...I've also done lots of reading at Mark's Daily Apple, that makes some arguments against extended cardio (nothing like finding a viewpoint that agrees with your preferences- ha!), and champions sprints/HIIT for fitness.

I just saw all the commenters saying how much they wanted to emulate you and thought I should clarify for myself and maybe anyone else how wanted to try it what you had done.

Thanks Elsie!

You made a very important clarification, and I'm so glad you posted!

I have also been reading about the benefits of HiiT. I'm the polar opposite of you when it comes to cardio preference (hate sprints:p). Therefore, I have trouble pushing myself hard enough for a true HiiT workout without a steep hill (of which there are NONE where I now live).

I love doing Cathe's intervals, however, and was hoping to get more out of these workouts. I'm sure it's what I'm putting in to it. I would love to hear how you increased the intensity in the HiiTs. I think my problem is that I'm too used to some of the moves. I noticed right away that the ones that really get me are the ones I didn't know before--like butt kicks and 1/4 jump turns. I've been doing--and dreading--plie jacks and power lunges for years. I've wondered if I should try to do them faster. I've probably been too content to dog it on the familiar ones.

Don't get me wrong, though: I'm not saying that any of it is easy--by any means!!! That's why I haven't ordered "Insanity"--I'd be yaking at the first workout!

Hey Elsie :)

I think with HIIT there is a huge mental component, you're absolutely right! If halfway through the interval you aren't suffering, you need to pick it up a notch somehow...

As for going harder, sometimes I do speed up, but sometimes I slow down a bit and really focus on explosive moves. For example I can't do air jacks very well at the speed Cathe does without looking like I'm just spastically dancing, so I slow it down a bit and really jump as high as I can, and jack as big as I can! Maybe I'll catch up to her someday :p

Maybe you should just sub in 'harder' excercises for the ones you don't find as challenging? Doing something more with your upper body to increase intensity might help too.

Not sure if any of that helps, but hopefully you'll find the approach that works for you - I think HIIT is an invaluable tool in our fitness approach. It's simple...just not easy !

Wow, Elsie, that's quite an accomplishment!!! Thanks for posting - I was kind of wondering if anyone would be, ahem, insane enough to do them all in a row :D:D:D:D:D

But very cool. Nice to know it's possible. Please tell that little gremlin on my shoulder that possible doesn't imply ought to try it myself.
