Help! The 40's have struck!

I'm going to be 42 this year and am really starting to see alot of fine line becoming more pronounced. I've always used Avon Anew with great results, but it doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. Anybody have any ideas? Anything out there I should try? TKA for all your help!

Tneah - Is Strivectin worth the extra $ ? I have been tempted to try it but didn't want to spend that much if it wasn't worth it. Costco carries it here so it is a bit of a discount.

And for the Nu Derm line - which products to buy?

Tneah,

I am really interested in the Nuderm Obagi system, but when I looked at their website, I read you have to go to a doctor to have it prescribed.

Can you let me know if you have tried it and if it is worth the investment of going to a doctor?

I'm 48 and desperate for results - and this looks like it would be really good!

Thanks!

Carolyn

I read somewhere (Health or Prevention) that Olay's new line is great and that the whole thing combined is less $ than Retin-A and results are quite similar. Don't know if it's true but might be worth checking out.

Lots of ladies I know use the Nuderm products and love them. They didn't really help me but I have very sensitve, acne prone skin. You can purchase on-line at places like www.spalook.com, which is where I got mine a couple of years ago. They had skin care specialists to help you pick products by phone as well. HTH.

Principal Secret products with argiriline work pretty well for lines. I had some developping around my mouth, and using the eye serum on them got rid of the above-the-mouth ones and reduced the below-the-mouth ones.

I use Nuderm Obagi and get regular compliments on my complexion. Honestly it is amazing stuff. (and it ought to be given the cost!)

I've used Renova (Retin-A) for a couple of years, and it really doesn't do much for the deeper lines around the mouth, or any other existing wrinkles. My dermo said it's more preventative, to help stop future wrinkles. I've just started using Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Cream, and while I haven't noticed a major difference I think I'm starting to see small improvements. The lines seem less obvious, and it does do a great job with hydration. They say it takes at least a month to see noticeable results, and I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into it.

Carolyn,

Be prepared for peeling the first 4 weeks or so. You have to go through that to see the results you're looking for. Good luck and let us know how it works for you.

I´ve looked into this quite a bit and studies show that Retin-A, which is prescription strength, is still the best thing out there for wrinkles. Which is not to say the the Olay stuff isn´t good, but it´s not as strong as the Retin -A.

Michelle,

Thanks for the warning! Fortunately I have a home office so I can hide out for those couple of weeks!

One question - I have been looking at a couple of websites that sell Obagi, but on the Obagi website it says you have to go to a doctor to get it.

Do you know if the products that are sold online are the full prescription strengthe - same as I would get from a doctor - or a watered down version?

Thanks!
Carolyn

Jan Marini is great. Another one where it looks like you need a consultation with a skin specialist to buy, but it's pretty easy to get around that on skinstore.com. I am 47 and pretty consistently am judged 10 years younger. My friend who turned me on to JM had also tried Obagi and told me not to waste my money there, go right to JM, but I know a lot of people like Obagi. I never did try it, so can't comment.

Thanks for all the great info! Now.......I just have to decide what to try first! I just saw a commercial for something new from Avon too! Decisions, Decisions!

Caroly,

The places like spalook and skinstore have a Dr.behind the scenes from what I understand.

It is all full rx strength. My friend worked for a laser treatment/spa facility and sold the same products. We compared lot numbers, expiration dates, etc. She has since left the company and is now buing hers on-line too.

Also, spalook has a wonderful return policy. I have used it a couple of times without any problems. If you don't like the products, just send them back (even mostly used) for a full refund. I would imagine skinstore has the same policy and I know they both offer free shipping.

If you ever need hair appliances or products, I have found the same great service and discount prices on expensive tools at www.folica.com. I bought a flat iron that had trouble a month after the warranty expired and they took care of it anyway.

Michelle,

Thanks so much for your help! I am going to read through all the different Obagi products and figure out which ones are right for me - hopefully I can turn back the clock a few years!
