Help, need Cardio Ideas. Have a broken toe.

I was taking pictures of my jewelry and wanted to be creative. Decided a beautiful basalt rock would be nice to lay earrings on. Somehow I knocked the rock off the table and it landed on my middle toe. Da:eek:

All I can do now are upper body exercises. Does anyone know how to do cardio without using your feet? It is a challenge for me. One person thought doing punches while sitting down. I'm doing that, but need more. I'm an active person and I do still have one foot I can use.

Any ideas would be very appreciated.

I broke my toe in October. I went out and bought NIke Frees becasue they didn't put pressure on the toe that I broke (4th toe). I was still able to do lower body stuff like Butt and Guts. Do what you can, skip the exercises where you have to bend the toes (lunges, etc).

The Nike Frees allowed me to do almost anything low impact...

Buddy tape the toe, that helps as well.

Definitely buddy tape it. With the right shoes you may be able to walk. Just wait until the swelling goes down, drink organic milk (for the vitd/colustrum to repair your bones.) and take an ant-inflammatory (I took ibuprofen as suggested by my surgeon.) Ice it and keep it elevated as much as possible. And whatever you do, don't rebreak it. That will slow down progress more than anything else.

Thank you soooooo much for everyone's advice. All worked very well, except I didn't get the Nike, but B&G is on my to do list tomorrow. I'll take your advice and do what I can. I buddy taped my toe and it almost immediately stopped the pain. OMG! What a difference. My body has a problem with milk so I'm drinking almond milk and taking more calcium with my vitamins through out the day with Vit. D3. A little over 1200 mm per day. That was a great idea.

Thank you again, I think I'm going to be OK:D

My SO just sprained his ankle pretty badly, but he was able to swim the whole time. As soon as the swelling went down enough on his foot to fit into a shoe :) he started biking. Once again no problem.

These are generally his main forms of cardio, so they are very effective.

cycling in some form would work great. other equipment that might would be an elliptical (if you're super careful not to put weight on your toes!) or a row machine. Swimming should also be ok.

I fractured my middle toe some time ago and I did mostly cycling and the elliptical, and at home the only cardio dvd I did was Cardio Barre: Ultimate Advanced, though much like w/ lower body exercises, I had to modify a bit so as to not put pressure on my toes. Oh -- and I have a Bellydancing dvd that I used a lot too when I was injured. Loved it so much I'm actually ordering a few more to mix in with my higher intensity workouts. :p

Hope that helps, and that you have a speedy recovery!

Sending broken bone sympathy your way. I broke my wrist 7 weeks ago, and it has been a real challenge to figure out how to work out. I continued running, even running a 10K in my cast. (Not fun!) I am not able to do much upper body work at all, so my arms are suffering. I am out of the cast finally, and the cast arm is like a little stick. It's amazing how much it atrophied over those 6 weeks in a cast.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on upper body weight work and not worry about the cardio. It's killing me to have to do the opposite, all cardio and no weights, but I know that this too shall pass. I'll be back to full form eventually and so will you. You want that toe to heal properly and not keep reinjuring it by trying to do too much. This is a lesson I had to learn, and believe me I was not happy!

Good luck and quick healing!
