Help!! My Christmas Tree......

My Christmas tree has stopped drinking water. My husband checked the stand after getting home one night and there wasn't any water in the stand. He filled the stand up with water, but it hasn't gone down much since that night. Any suggestions to keep my Christmas tree alive besides talking to the tree and enlisting fairies' help!?!? I'd appreciate any advice from all you knowledgeable ladies.

Thanks so much!!! Edie

This just happens to trees and unless you want to undecorate it and do what Dave suggested, enjoy not having to water it!

This is the first year I've gotten a tree that I didn't cut down myself. My SO and I got it from my brother-in-law's new nursery. I never knew you were supposed to cute 2" off the bottom of a pre-cut tree since sap collects at the bottom and prevents it from "drinking" water. Oops. Our tree isn't drinking much..... x(

Hey, ya live and ya learn, right? Thank god there's no heater by the tree. Talk about a fire hazard....

Thanks for your responses. I thought that cutting off at the stump would probably save my tree, but I really don't want to un-decorate the tree. I'm sad, but I'll remember this next year. I've been misting the tree with water to try to keep it from drying out too quickly, but I can see that it is slowly losing its green. EDIE

Could someone lift the tree out of the stand and hold it while someone uses a sawsall to cut the stump? I don't want to suggest a chain saw, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.... "Honey, I fixed the newell post"

You could also drill a couple holes in the base just so the water can get into a fresh opening.

I was just about to suggest drilling holes also. This is what my dad used to do. Worth a try, right?
