Oh my goodness. My PMS is Out. Of. Control! I cannot stop eating. I'm totally indiscriminate about what I eat. Healthy not so healthy. Chocolate, chicken, chia... It does not matter. I just have to eat it. I don't know what to do. But I can't keep going like this every month. The food hangovers have zapped all my energy. I can't even get rid of the unhealthy foods because my hormones would put me in the car and drive me to the store to buy more. This is insane. Has anyone experienced this? The rest of the month, I'm fine. But for a week before my period, I am eat absolutely everything. I'm so frustrated. Plus it's harder to workout because all my energy is gone (see: food hangover) and when I do manage to drag my way through a workout, it's like I'm a beginner all over again. I hate feeling this way. I hope menopause is better.

I know how you feel. The week before my period, I inhale everything too. And I do notice that when the weather starts to get colder my appetite increases. Did a little research and it goes back to caveman times, that our appetites increases in the colder months to store fat for the winter. That part I don't like. And then you get into a cycle eat more, workout more, which causes appetite to increase, so you workout more and it goes on. I'm currently starting the peri menopause and it seems to have not changed much for me. Just occasional night sweats. I feel your pain. Can't keep chocolate in my house. I wish I had some magic cure but I don't. Plus its easy to get bored when you are cooped up in the house in the winter and then eat. Know you are not alone. Hang in there!!!!!

Since going on hormonal methods of birth control three, four years ago, first Nuvaring, then BCPS, I no longer have this problem. Something to think about. Controlling hormones really cuts down drastically on ALL the horrendous side effects of period week and the week before: the acne breakouts, binge eating, angry and irritable behaviour, etc, etc.

I use a hormonal IUD and haven't had my period for years. Very nice to not have any period effects, though the worst I ever had were mild cramps

I have also had a hormonal IUD for over 5 years and have had no periods or any pms since then. Before that I had the exact same problems. I used to call the days before my period my "hollow leg" days not the mention the migraines I always had at ttom. I am glad that I am no longer in that particular stage of my life.

i think the best we can do is keep the high calorie foods out of the house. if you go way overboard on veggies or something like that, at least it won't be so damaging. and maybe the lack of energy is from the type of food you ate, hard to say.

i'm on implanon, like an iud, but it's in my arm. but i just have those days. i think we all have them. i want to eat the furniture. i try to drink tea, lots of veggies, lentil soup, read forums, exercise, take a walk. whatever helps.

I can so relate to this. About 3 or 4 weeks ago I added CLA supplements to my daily vitamins after reading about it in either Hers or Oxygen (can't remeber which one). I have seen it working already I believe. Plus I have noticed a curb in my appetite which I assume is from the CLA. No desire for junk, just clean eating.
I would love to hear from anyone who has also used this supplement & get their take on it.

Wow Tami, sounds like ClA tablets are very effective, I read about them too in fitness magazines. I'll have to look into buying them, I have an appetite of a horse!

Have you tried evening primrose oil? How about Gymnema Sylvestre (ayruvedic otc for sugar cravings/alcohol cravings. warning, it does lower blood sugar.) How about fish oil? That helps with my sugar cravings.
