Help editing a DVD

My sister found a VHS tape from 25 years ago of my Grandmother's 70th Birthday party and she made it into a DVD. In March my aunt is throwing a party for my grandmother's 95th Birthday. I would like to edit this DVD (some scenes are too dark and the DVD is too long) so I can "gift" it to people at the party but it appears that I'm having trouble finding software that will do it properly. I've tried a few, but they don't appear to be doing the job (I have a Vista operating system on most of my computers.)

Does anyone have any ideas on any good software programs for editing? Also if I should choose to add this to facebook for the family what would be the best editing program for that?

I know this DVD will bring most of my family to tears because at least four of the family members have passed away but I also know it will bring them incredible joy to actually see them again--dancing and singing.

I would appreciate any and all ideas.....March is coming up soon enough and no one knows about this surprise.

Nero will let you edit dvd movies, as well as convert to a more compact format such as .AVI to upload to facebook or youtube.

You might head over to the twit army website/forum for help with that. I'm a macuser so I don't know Vista. I edit in Final cut pro or iMovie and DVD studio to author dvds. The TWIT army is 'this week in tech' and its Leo La Porte's group. They are really helpful and knowledgeable. I hope that helps.

Good luck with your project.
