Help!! Cleaned step, now it squeaks!

I noticed dust from the driveway had accumulated on the bottom of my step, so I cleaned it off. Now it squeaks so loud I can't hear what Cathe is saying! I used Pledge, thinking it would condition the plastic.

I put corn starch on it, but it only got worse. Right now I'm off to the driveway to get dirt to sprinkle back on it!! Has anyone else solved this? If so, please help!

Thanks in advance,
Connie

LOL how annoying is that. Maybe while you're in the backyard you can hose it down? Probably a good washing would take care of the problem.

Yup. A good washing will/should take care of the squeak. On the days I wash my car outside I bring my steps and risers and wash them off too. (I never had a squeaking situation though).

Wouldn't Pledge make it a potential slipping hazzard? Isn't that furniture polish or am I missing something? I would think a regular cleaner like Fantastic would work Ok.

You guys are right. It was only the underside, Fab 40, not the part I step on. I used rubbing alcohol and got the waxy residue off.

Before that I even went out to the driveway and got a handful of dirt and rubbed it on, I was so desperate. I hear you snorting, but it was only 5 a.m. so give me a break.:p

The whole thing is clean and quiet now! Thanks for the responses! I will remember.
