Heart Rate Monitor....what to choose?

so,I went back in the threads and did some research on this topic,and by the time I was finished my head was spinning!I want a simple heart rate monitor thats at a decent price(50$-100$ range).One that can tell me the calories Im burning,target zone arlam,not too complicated! Any Idea's.

also,I hate purchasing things on the Internet,where can I find them?

I have an F6 as well and love it. The F4 does not track your total calories burned and that's why I specifically got one, so the F6 is was! I also got mine at Sports Authority and I think that I was able to get it for around $99.
 
Another vote for the Polar F6. I got mine for Christmas last year and have worn it for every workout since then. I can't imagine working out without it! Crazy I know! When I forget to hit the "start" button and go through the workout, at the end when I see there is no calorie count, I feel like it didn't count! That's how addicted you get to it!
 
I'm LOL fox2star! I have the F6 and have the exact same thoughts when I finish a workout and see that I've forgotten to hit start:) :)

I, too, would highly recommend the Polar F6. Very functional and easy to set up and use.

Actually the F4 does calculate calories burned as well as workout time, percent of time in trainng zone, average and maximum heart rates. Plus I like that it is smaller in size since I have a small wrist.

However, I bought the F6 for DH and he loves it.

I just went own the polar website and did a side by side comparison of the polar f6/f4 and didn't really see a big difference except the size. I did however notice that the f6 has the ownzone feature but I couldn't find a link to what that means!The f4 seems to be a little cheaper,and you said it does calculate calories burned during the entire workout(not just the time spent in the target zone). Maybe I'll go with it instead....OH!! decisions,decisions!!!!:D

The F6 calculates calories during a work out as well. It also comes in a smaller womens size (the wrist band is smaller) and the watch is by no means huge.

I looked at the OwnZone feature when I first got my F6 and decided it was just a pointless gimmick. I think it just sort of "automatically" determines your heart rate zone, but I enter mine manually using the Karvonen calculation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_rate#Karvonen_method.

The F6 is not that much more expensive. And you've seen all the positive recommendations.
 
I can't believe there's nobody within 40 miles of my house that sells polar heartrate monitors x(x(x(!

Guess I'll have to order online!Oh,and I've decided to go with the polar f6,since most of you recommend it!:):)

sports Authority is the 40 mile mark.I called target and the women I spoke to said they carried a "speedomiter"?????

Maybe she didn't know what she was looking for,does target carry the f6?I asked her for a HRM!

Also,does anybody know if Cathe's website except money orders? I hate purchaseing anything over the Internet,I've heard tooo many horror stories on Identy theft!

Targets vary. The one in my area has a couple of crappy-brand HR monitors and I think an F1. I bought my F6 from Amazon (fogdog.com). Like the others here, I really enjoy the F6. It's really interesting to see where you are in terms of HR during some of that killer cardio. :)

I know this topic is a few days old, but I'm wondering if any of you F6 users have a problem with your heart rate monitor zero-ing out in the middle of your routine. I just got mine in the mail on Friday and it works for a few minutes and then says my heart rate is 00 for the rest of the time. I end up stopping my routine like 10 times to re-wet the sensors and make sure everything is where it is supposed to be. I've tried everything, but it keeps pooping out on me, so I'm probably going to be exchanging it. Just wondering if I happened to get the only wacked out F6 or if anyone else has had this problem too. Maybe I am just technologically impaired? ;-)
 
My Polar M32 does the same thing in front of the TV. I have to get about 8' away from it for it to work properly. I don't have that large of a workout area so I couldn't use it at all. The Polar people said this is normal to pick up interference from an electrical device. Some HR monitors don't have problems with it but mine did. I also have trouble outside when riding my bike under power lines. It would go to "0" for quite a while before starting back up.

I solved this by purchasing a Timex Digital HRM. It doesn't malfunction in front of the TV due to it being "digital" as opposed to the Polar's being "analog".

Solved my problem.
