I am big on good form when working out, thanks to Cathe - and have mastered a lot of exercises. I figure if I can do it, if your using the right weights, anyone can. Then why do the "best trainers in the tv bus" not teach the contestants good form. I get just getting the to w/o is a victory being it is all new to them. But they just hoist things up in the air, and the form is horrible - and I think they can get hurt that way. Is it just me, or does this bug anyone else?

I agree, especially in the beginning of the show. I think a lot of it has to do with the size of the contestants and their complete lack of strength at the beginning. As they lose weight and get stronger their form improves so much. I think the trainer's goal in the beginning is just to keep them moving! I do worry sometimes when I watch that someone is going to be really injured. I guess it goes to show how resiliant the body is. Not that I recommend that kind of training for anyone!! The show always motivates me to get off my rear end and do something!

It motivates me too. I am waiting on dh to hook up tv in gym (I just get dvd's and tapes now) so I can watch that and other shows while I jump on the ellipitical for an hour at night. It would work out well for me, but he's so busy now. I hope he'll do it soon. - A

I've never watched the show, but a friend kept at me last season! She said I'd love it if I gave it a shot (I despise "reality tv"), so I started watching this season and I am definitely hooked on it! I agree though that at first they look like they're going to kill themselves! I don't know how people that heavy can just run. It took me years to get where I am - years of hating it and giving up! I could run about 20 feet and that was it! Last year, thanks to the C5K program I finally conquered it, but it was hard! I just don't get it.

Anyway, I can't wait until next week's episode!

I agree. I have the Last Chance workout DVD and some of the contestants have horible form. It was dissappointing because Jillian is right there, 'teaching' the home exerciser and still doesn't correct the form. It makes you appreciate all the form tips and quality background exercisers in other workouts (e.g. Cathe).

I still watch and love the show though. Next week's episode looks like it is going to be good and I saw in the TV Guide listings that the week after next they go to singles instead of couples.

I totally agree! I love this show because it does have a lot of great qualities, but I CRINGE every time I see them working out because their form is TERRIBLE! They're just slinging weights "here and there" and is not good. I know Bob and Jillian are supposed to be the best trainers, but I would not want them training me. However, they probably are the "best" trainers for working out terribly obese people. The contestants are there 24/7 and apparently they workout the majority of their waking hours, so I guess if it works, okay. But -- I totally agree with you on form -- if I was training someone I would NEVER do it like Bob and Jillian -- I would use Cathe's form and technique hands over!! I have been trained, in my opinion, by a professional (Cathe!)

I'd like to know what their credentials look like. I'll have to check. As I stated earlier, this is my first season watching. I'm going to check out Jillian's website and see if they are listed there. I just can't see a professional trainer not being concerned with form, especially with the people on the show! Most of them already have horrible knee and back problems, which are just going to be exacerbated by the lack of instruction!

That said, I'm so hooked!

I noticed the bad form too. But I guess like a pp said it really is about making progress. I know that as I have lost weight that my form has improved. And now being pregnant with some things it is not as great as it could be.

They have the best agents in the business. I mean show business not fitness.
