Has Body Combat come to you yet :) ?

Hi girls,

I've been lurking around here and noticed that some of you have done your BodyPump certification (glad to hear you enjoyed it!)

I teach BodyPump, BodyStep and am now doing Bodycombat! It's a martial arts workout with kickboxing, karate, muay thai and power drills. I noticed a lot of you loved kickboxing style workouts and wanted to let you know what a great workout it is! You can find more info at www.lesmills.com.au or www.bodytrainingsystems.com !

I'm glad an Aussie/Kiwi product has reached your shores. I'm trying to enlist a few Down Under Cathe devotees. Her workouts are terrific!

Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better!

Cheers,
Liz N

Thanks Liz,

I'll check out the links. I have an online Aussie friend that swears by the body combat classes at her gym in Australia! She raves about what a complete workout it is!

RE: bodycombat/bodyattack

I have been trying to find the classes where I moved to. I dearly miss the Body combat. Thank heavens Cathe's videos are close to Bodypump. But is there anyway I could get the DVD's of Bodycombat? Or get them to start teaching it where I live? Bodycombat is so fun you don't feel like you are working out.

RE: bodycombat/bodyattack

I don't want to be a downer or anything but I find the concepts behind les mills (sp?) a little troubling. As an instructor, I LIKE the idea of coming up with my own choreography and picking my own music. I LIKE the idea of going to another instructor's class and not knowing what he/she will teach for that day. I LIKE the idea of each instructor's class being a reflection of them and not of someone else. From what I understand of the philosophy of classes like Body Combat, etc, all of those aspects are removed from the workout, down to the music and cueing. I understand the pros of this sort of idea, but it just takes away too much of the instructor's input in my opinion. I became an instructor because I love teaching and coming up with my own classes. I would truly hate to have to learn someone else's choreography and teach it to a class. I would feel a little like a fraud. I hope this concept has it's limitations and does not take over the fitness industry like it seems to have done in Australia. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it has a place in the fitness industry, I just don't want to see it take over.
Just my opinion.

RE: bodycombat/bodyattack

Carolyn,
I could not agree with you more. I'm sure there is a place for these classes but I love coming up with my own stuff to teach. I feel that I would dislike doing the same thing over and over, I need variety. I'm sure these classes are good for some people who like to know what is coming next in the routine but for myself I need it to be mixed up and have some complexity.
As you can see I don't post much. Mainly I lurk, but I will post if there is a topic I feel strongly about.

I really hope I'm not offending anyone, this is just my opinion.

RE: bodycombat/bodyattack

Another BodyCombat fan here! I have a couple of the training DVD's and do the classes at the gym once in a while, such a fun and intense workout. BodyAttack is new to our club, I did it last week, it was a good hi/lo interval but I like more choreography in my hi/lo. I've been a certified BTS instructor in BodyPump and BodyFlow for 3 years now and teach my own yoga classes in the community.

LesMills consistently puts out great workouts to fantastic music. I would love to make it to their harbour club in New Zealand and teach from that huge stage.....maybe someday:)

I resisted LesMills concept at first (thought it was like the McDonald's of fitness) I think that as long as clubs keep a balance between pre choreographed and classes choreographed by individual instructors that the needs of the members and the goals for class numbers will be met on a consistent basis. Fitness is huge business and LesMills classes fill rooms with happy members who get results. It's all about variety and knowing your membership:)

Take Care
Laurie:)

I am going to get kickboxing certified on July 29th I am very interested in this bodycombat as well. I can not get into bodytrainingsystem to see if there is something in Michigan where could you get certified in US for this?

Thanks beth6395

I'm a member of a gym that has BodyPump, BodyFlow, BodyCombat, RPM, and BodyStep and possibly in the future BodyJam. These Les Mill workouts are truly a favorite amongst the members.

I wasn't too happy (kinda angry) at first when some of our regular step classes were replaced with BodyStep. This class really brought out the members who liked step, but avoided the regular freestyle stepping due to the complex choreography. BodyStep was the solution and this has become the hottest class at the gym....well, so is BodyPump.

I asked why some instructors wanted these type of workouts. The majority said that after teaching for 20+ years, it gets tough coming up with new material that will please everybody. In some ways this took the blame off of them. They still have freestyle classes that brings out the hard core, complex choregraphy junkie steppers.

Our instructors will at times take parts of one routine and combine it with another one. Or after doing the same routine for a month they switch back to an older one. They add there own little bits of personality to every workout.

I don't find BodyCombat much like Cathe's. It's just different, but still very good and the class goes by fast. I saw a lot more definition in my arms from taking this class.

I'll be one of the six presenters introducing BodyCombat at a fitness bash this month.

Thanks Laurie I got it and I sent them an email. I also found one facility that has a couple instructors and classes so I am going to try a class.

Here in Australia, BodyCombat has been around for years. I love it but my favourite is BodyPump and BodyBalance (combination of pilates, yoga and tai chi, aka BodyFlow in the US). In addition, there is also BodyAttack which is too high impact and full on for me lol, RPM (like Spin) and BodyJam (dance/hip hop workout).
