Gone completely overboard on gift-buying this Christmas?

I keep a spreadsheet every year of what I've bought for people, how much, etc. and this year's is just way over the top. Most of it is for my SO and DD and I can't WAIT to give it to them.:D

This year DH and I set a limit for each other... which I went over on by about 150%!!! LOL, hope he did too... }( :p

Did you happen to see my post about where all the money goes? :D

I really haven't gone overboard...there just a zillion people that I need to buy for!

Oh, I plan to go overboard. My November and December paychecks are to play with (what doesn't go for groceries and my expenses). We budget for that. As I have a commissioned job and these past few months have been nice for me, the family will reap the rewards. I cannot wait for Christmas morning.

I am done my shopping and yes way overboard. Everytime I go into a store, I continue to shop. I promise myself not to go into any more store. :D

Way overboard this year, especially for the kids, DH, and my mum. But it will be great to see everyone's faces on Christmas morning.

Ummmmm yes. We only have our son so we tend to go overboard with the presents on his birthday and Christmas. I also tend to go overboard with DH. Oh well we budget our money well and I always start shopping for our extended families in the summer so by the time Oct rolls around I am done with everyone except DH and DS.

It seems kind of futile, becuase once everyone has given each other their gift cards, it's really just a matter of having moved the money around. We might as well just have avoided it all and kept our own money and had a big bash at a local restaurant.

Christmas is definitely not my favorite holiday.

DH and I adopted this strategy several years ago and love it! My family/extended family also decided to forego buying everyone gifts and do a Secret Santa drawing instead for family members over 18 with a $25 spending limit. The holiday stress level has reduced by about 95%. :)

Yes, definitely. And I haven't even tallied up the damage yet.

I do have a budget but that doesn't seem to stop me. Plus once the ideas get rolling I get so excited to just keep going.

I always seem to really go overboard with the SO too. Even though what he really wants are big ticket items well out of my reach I always seem to find so many smaller things for him.

Nope! My family (and DH's) did away with exchanging gifts a few years ago and it's one of the best decisions we ever made as a family :p . We make a charitable donation in our parent's names in lieu of buying gifts for each other. My niece and nephews are older now so I no longer buy gifts for them, either. I give them a little money in a nice card and they seem content with that.

I also quit exchanging gifts with my best friend. We make it a point to get together for a nice lunch or dinner and I'd much rather do that than worry about finding the perfect gift.

Yes. Even though I don't exchange gifts with my family, we adopt a needy family. I'm in charge of the money and shopping and I went overboard with shopping for them. I went crazy with buying the boys clothes. It was so much fun but I went over by $250. Oh well, it's worth it!

Nope, hubby and I are not getting each other gifts this year. We set a limit on everyone else and got everyone gift cards. Let them go buy what they want.

We are short on cash so that is why there is nothing for us.

Oh yes. I keep a journal with gifts/costs and set a budget, which I promptly have blown about 25 percent per child. Oh well. They are only young once, and there's just something magical about seeing your children's face light up when they see all of those presents under the tree. It's worth stretching the budget a bit...

Seems that my immediate family .. I had ONE expensive thing for each one that they all needed real bad .. so I will be over on $$$ on them .. (and only one present apeice) ..the nephew (the ONLY child in my immediate family) of course have spent way too much on but don't care!!!We keep the friends presents to a minimum $$$ .. so not too bad (YET) on them!

and this year DH and I are going off for 2 days before the Christmas weekend .. so that will be our present to each other .. should be FUN!!!}(

Yep, count me in the overboard buying group. I started out with simple gifts for each family as a whole. I have three sisters and between them, they have 12 kids!!! So to keep costs down, I just bought one gift for each family. But since then, I've been finding other things that the individual kids want and now I've just bought a soccer goal, princess play tent, xbox 360 game and the list goes on and on.... A good number of my nieces and nephews are now teenagers and that's where the majority of my money is going... These kids better remember me when me and weiner dogs are old and gray and hanging out in our rockers on the front porch!
