Hardcore Fitness Maniacs - October 24

I'm Back:p

This morning I did KenpoX. It just wasn’t enough intensity for me hm……….

Since completing a week of the X, I have decided that most the exercises except for upper body isn’t enough, like Kenpo, man oh man, I didn’t break a sweat, however I did find the upper body work, some what challenging. Sunday starts week II I will be adding another kickboxing, a heavy leg workout and a total body and/or total upper body. That’s should do it:p:D

Today I did one of my Cardio Coach mixes. It's a good one, it starts out with Challenge #2 from CCV8, then Challenge #2 from CCV7 and then Challenge #2 from Sean's CCV6. Very fun mix. Still didn't feel like doing cardio, but had a good workout anyways.

Cardio stats:
1 hour
53 minutes in zone
383 calories burned (treadmill showed 427 so WTF?)
3.8 miles travelled

Got a root canal today. Oh boy. First one for me. I hear it's a 2 hour procedure. Not really looking forward to it.

Hope you all have a great day!

Okay I don't think you could pay me enough money to pick up a weight next week. Today was the last weight workout in this four week rotation and I have gone non-stop for 16 weeks. If any it will be cardio only next week. Today was a decent workout but certainly nothing holler about.

Superset A
Pullups
4/8, 5/8, 4/8 - **Numbers were down again from last week:eek::(**
DB Floor Press
8/8/8 - 45's **Dropped back from 46's, no since risking injury if you know you are not up to it***

Superset B
Chin ups
4/8,6/8, 4/8 **down again**
Incline DB Press
8/8/8 - 38's **Started at 40's but just didn't have the energy, so dropped the weight , again no sense injuring myself***

Superset C
Inverted Rows
15/15/15
Decline Pushups
20/20/20

Cardio at 20/40 ratio for eight rounds using power up 2 from Amy's ASC 1, then combos 2,3 & 4 also from ASC 1.

Everyone
- Thanks for the nice words about my duck!

Debbie
- Hope the root canal goes okay and recovery is easy! Good Luck!

Dallys
- I forgot to tell you how cute Rob was the other day. Bet you sure do miss him/her.

Linda - enjoy your break - you deserve it! I have two more questions - what does your cardio ratio mean? And what does something like 8X3 squat mean?? I read that in the fitness article Suz posted and could not figure that one out.

Debbie - all the best today. I'll be thinking about you. I freaked out over a cavity so I cannot even begin to imagine a root canal.

So, I bought the Iron Gym pull up bar. What a great invention that is. I liked it even better when I went to try it, not really expecting to get up there (but hoping that I could, of course!) and up I went!! Never in my life have I been able to do that. Thanks for the tips and encouragement :DThe first thing I did this morning was get up and go to that bar and be sure I could still do it!

That beautiful day that I was going to take the nice walk on turned out to be a rainy day - hours and hours of rain. So I did more than planned on the TM and stepmill. Yesterday I was gone all day and knowing today would be weights and tomorrow CCPP, I let the guilt go. I'll do full body today and start splits Sunday or Monday.

Have a great day everyone!

Hello Peeps!

Well, today was P90X Legs & Back. As you know I do my own leg workout to lift heavier. I did Bulgarian Split Squats, dead lifts, one set of weighted squats with "the kids" (that was for you Debbie), and kickbacks, leg press and leg extensions on the Bowflex Revolution. I feel like I'm missing something but I don't know.

Okay, I STILL SUCK with those dang pullups! I think I was worse today. I was better with chins (able to lower myself down on all reps) but worse with pullups!!! So although I got up early enough to do a Cardio Coach after lifting I didn't. I made myself stay after "school" and do pulldowns and back rows on my gym to try to strengthen my back. And I ate more today already than I have in a loooong time. I tell you, I am determined!!!

Shana - HOOOOOOOLD ON! What is this Iron Gym pull up bar you're talking about that you were able to get up on first try please????? Oh, and congratulations.

Debbie - Great cardio! Bummer about the root canal. One of our friends is a root canal doctor. That's all he does all day long. Could you imagine? Ick! He's like the nicest person in the whole world, so I imagine he's super gentle. I'd go to him if I ever had to have one. I hope you go through it with flying colors. I hear they're not so bad anymore.

Teddygirl - I TOTALLY agree with you on KenpoX and legs. That's why I'm not doin' 'em.

Linda - I hope you enjoy your break. Nice job on the pullups. A little upset with you too. Jealousy is an ugly thing. :p

Finally our massive winds are gone and it looks to be a lovely fall day.

Morning Maniacs! Dh and I are heading out of town for some bike riding. Going to Fruita Co. again. I'll catch up with you all in a few days.:)

Suz: Legs & Back, I'm doing tomorrow. However, last night, I preview L&B oh boy! it looks brutal, even without weights. I'll be putting a extra leg day in each week. KenpoX is a goodie for beginners:)

Dallys: Ride on.............:)

Suz - I didn't say it was pretty!! And I can't do more than one at a time. I can, however, do palms facing easier than just pull ups, and chin ups just, incredibly, happen. I couldn't do any of these before Cathe. This is what I got: http://www.asseenontvguys.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=195. Way to go with the eating, BTW - it makes a huge difference. I could go all day without eating if only I didn't need it! When I force myself to think about it, and do it right, it really does make a difference.

Dallys - have fun!! Sounds like a great time :)

Shana - Oh. It's a pullup bar. I thought it was something that helped you. So you're just strong. Now I'm pouting. Maybe I should get one and put it in my doorway at work so I can practice. Actually we have a pullup bar in our weight room in the PE building - at the other end of campus - and one on the universal gym in our Gym for the basketball team. On back days maybe I'll run down there and try a few more reps! Today I'm in jeans (Friday) but that should look nice when I'm all dressed up. :D I actually got super hungry toward the end of my workout today. That 1/2 Carnation Instant Breakfast didn't quite cut it and I had to go have the other half before I could finish!

Dallys - Have a great time. I know you love it there.

Teddygirl - Yeah, it is a good leg workout even w/out weights, although you do use some. I just wanted something with more weight. You'll have fun!

I am still messing with the office computer. I put everything in and it loses it when I shut it down. We just had it repaired but I think it has something to do with this deep freeze program that we have on it. Even though I thawed it to install things and put my passwords back in. Even lost my folder I put in last night with my messaging stuff:mad: Workout this morning was Tracey Staehle's Steady State Step first 20 minutes(felt I wasn't working very hard trying to get the moves) so went and did I Max 2 Blast mania (no w/up) then I went back and did the first 4 combos and intervals and stretch. I burned 549 calories. Not sure how right my HR monitor was though it says I burned 50% fat too. Had to take the grandchildren to school. When I got back I did Amy Bentos Step Challenge 3 combos 1,2, and 1&2 combined, abspound1and #2. I burned 401 doing this and 45% fat. Total calories today was 941. I will do total body & some more butt building (I hope exercises) tomorrow since my dvd didn't arrive yet. It will give my shoulder another rest day:)

Teddy, I think I do better with breaking a sweat with Kempo+ . I always did have to wear the weighted gloves and work to get some intensity into it.

Debbie, I hope everything goes well with the root canal. I have had two and one wasn't to bad:)

Linda, congratualations on finishing the 16 week rotation that is a long time.

I changed up my training for the pullups and chinups today, in that when I could no longer do them on, I would jump up then do the 3 sec hold and the slow let down that Debbie suggested. Well, just let me tell you I feel all of that in my upper back right now! I don't even want to know what it will feel like tomorrow!!

Shana
- The cardio ratio is for intervals 20/40 means 20 second blast followed by 40 second recovery. The 8 X 3 sounds like 3 sets of eigth reps or even 8 sets of 3 reps(which would be unsual but I've seen crazier things)

Suz - Just want you to know about a year ago when I started talking with Debbie and joined this check in I couldn't do a single pullup either. It takes a lot of work, and I find if you don't stick with them consistently you can lose ground quickly.

Diane
- There is actually another 4 week section to this program, but I just really need a break.

Linda - Thanks for the encouragement b/c I'm feeling pretty discouraged right now. I'm SUPER impatient in case you haven't noticed. I drive my DH crazy! But I'm willing to work at it. I feel like I should have some movement without assistance on the overhand right now, but nope. If I could get myself up there and hold on without assistance I'd be happy. I think I might head down to our PE building in a few minutes. These guys at work tell me if I can do so many pushups then I should be able to do pullups. Ummm...different muscles. :p

Hi all! No work out for me today. We are having our annual harvest festival at school tonight. It's alot of fun but working a 14 hour day on a Friday is brutal....but probably not as brutal as a root canal:) Debbie, hope everything went ok.

Check in with everyone tomorrow.

Sonya - Bummer on the long day, but that sounds like so much fun. Are you a teacher?

So I just went down to our PE building and ran into our Athletic Trainer. I don't know if you know, but I guess they are kind of like physical therapists but not trained with as much about geriatrics and stuff? That's kind of how he explained it (since I asked if he was like a PT). Anyhoo, we talked about my issues with pullups since I'll talk to anyone who will listen - tee hee - but we also talked about my shoulder, as it is a bit more sore today and I don't want to mess it up but I don't want to quit trying for my goal. So he said that he would take a look at it anytime and he would even do some electrode work on it (that might not be the exact word, but he said where he puts those electrods on my shoulder). He said that will help it. I told him I'd see how it does. He said sometimes really increasing the load like I'm doing with P90X (no, he hasn't heard of it!!!) can just cause it to talk back a little bit at first. He also said he'd look over the exercises my PT gave me to see what ones I might want to keep doing to keep my shoulder strong b/c most people don't do the right ones for rotator cuff. So he said to come down anytime. Nice! Free PT stuff. :)

Suz - That was so nice of that guy to offer all that help. I started with chair assisted chins and pulls and worked the negative in the beginning. Stick with it you'll get there, but you just better not get to eight before me :p:p:p!

Suz - I am not that strong - upper body, but compared to a year ago, I am strong for me! I got the one pull up out of me today and can't do anymore  Can still make the chin ups but no more pull ups. I'm going to keep trying and build up those muscles b/c I figure making a concerted effort will help me eventually be able to do some consecutive pull ups. AND, push ups kill me. I can finally do a few in a row but that's it. I'm doing the 100 push up challenge and that is helping. I keep trying to tweak my form and find the perfect way to do them to help me out :)

Linda - thanks for the further info! I felt like a goofball for not knowing but since I tell my daughter to just ask if you don't know, I figured I should take my own advice!

Suz - That was so nice of that guy to offer all that help. I started with chair assisted chins and pulls and worked the negative in the beginning. Stick with it you'll get there, but you just better not get to eight before me :p:p:p!

AS IF I'd get to eight before you! He did tell me today to start working the negative first and that would get me stronger. And isn't that what Debbie said? Yeah, that was nice of him. And I did a little reading and I see that physical therapists must have a master's degree and athletic trainers don't have to but a lot of jobs require them too. Also I think there is more certification requirements for PT's but now something like 46 states require certification for athletic trainers. Thought I should clear that up before I made any PT's angry. :) Thanks for your encouragement!

Shana - This is what kills me - I can do boy pushups all day long. But I know they are different muscles. I'm definitely out of balance. I'd trade some pushups for ONE pullup! :p

hey hope everyone is well. just checking in quickly before i finally go to bed. no workout yesterday as I was barely home all day. Today was biceps, tris, and core from Amy's Slo-Mo
