Hardcore Fitness Maniacs Check In for Finally Friday 5-19

Jeanette - your workout reminded me that I wanted to ask you how you space your workouts out. I know you ride 3 days a week but then how close to cycling do you lift? I lift entire body Mon, ride hills Tues (yup - tired legs already), lift entire body Wed, ride intervals Thursday, easy spin Friday with some upper body, ride Saturday and off or yoga Sunday. I'll also try to throw in a little extra cardio on weight days if I can find the time. I think I need more cardio. I've thought about only lifting legs one day a week. My legs are tired/burning on the bike even if I have taken the day before a ride off. I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with me, but DH's point is if there is something they can do for me it would sure make my life a lot easier on the bike and I wouldn't dread every cardio workout for the breathing factor.

So you have a big bbq tonight? How fun!!! I wish we all could join you. :p

You guys and all this talk about rattlesnakes on mountain bike rides are freaking me out. That's one thing I hadn't thought of but you can bet I will this summer!!! One did almost get me on a road ride a couple of years ago though. VERY SCARY!

Good afternoon,
Netta, I have been working out around 24 years. More like 10 that I have been pretty regular with it. Now it is just part of life:)

Dallas, the Saucony's seem to run true to size. I usually buy an 8.

Lora, I use my Bowflex with some of Cathe's. Then I do my own thing or use it as an add on.

My workout ended up being a circuit. I put in Push Pull lower 3 sets premix, between each set of I ran 1/2 mile on the treadmill. When it went to the inner outer thigh floor work I paused it and ran at a slower pace but upped the incline to 10, when I hit 5 miles I slowed and then did the floor work and calves and shins, I followed this with Power Half hour ab burn. I really worked up a good sweat.

Jeanette - I'm not a fan of rocks either, but as I learned to ride in El Paso, Texas, I had to learn to ride on them. The faster you go, the better off you are, but I will admit also, the more it hurts if you fall. :p The snakes don't bother me too much - they'll bite the tire, not you (a whole new meaning to getting a "snake bite" on your tire, eh?), but when that big female tranatula ran under my bike one evening, it did freak me out a bit. *shudders* My DH, though, almost fell off his bike when the "stick" he saw slithered away. He hates snakes. I know we have rattlers here in California, but I haven't seen any yet (in the 8 years I've lived here - and I hike and bike a lot). We used to bike a lot, but ever since we got Tucker the wondermutt, we've been hiking more as he needs a lot of exercise otherwise he chews up things in the garage.

Lora, I was in Target today and saw a Rodney Yee Yoga workout with weighted gloves. The gloves had bars in them so the weight could be adjusted up to 1 pd.. Have you heard of this one?

Hi again!

I had a change in plans. hahaha After reading what Dallas is doing today, I checked out the Oxygen issue. So, instead of doing GDL, I did another w/o in that issue.
I just don’t know what on earth to do to make ANY improvements. I've done very heavy lifting to thousand of reps. I swear it seems hopeless.
I jokingly say I should run to Canada and back. I've changed it to China! I'll run to Washington and swim there. hahaha Next will be a visit to Dr. 90210.

Marietta, yeah, I do at least 400 weighted walking lunges almost every day. My goal is 2,000 a week. I run something everyday too. I cant believe your co-worker! I would say something. Even if it’s just what you told us, that you didn’t have to be there. I’d also have to say “you’re something else” you know that…..lady! hahahaha j/k (or maybe not).

Suz, you got the new Oxygen issue already? I get mine around the 28. I'll see it in stores well before mine is received. That bugs me for some reason.

Dallas, I did the MTV Pilates Mix, routine 2 (with some leg work). It was pretty good. Since I'm having a day I'm simply disgusted with my appearance I almost did routine 1 also. I do have to get something done today other than working out. How are things with your family (sil and your kids)?

Jeanette, have fun at your bbq! I love getting together with friends.

Christine, I’m glad your dh is coming home today. How is his mother doing?

Diane Sue, I’m glad your migraine is gone.

Nicole, I’m glad your son did ok on his blood test. Let us know in three weeks the results too!

Hi Again!

Susan ~ Do tell, which workout did you do from that issue? I've done the one from Toscas Reno or is it Reno Toscas? ha ha! Anyway, I'll join you on that run to China. ;-) I feel the same way. However, I keep telling myself that I'm just now able to run, etc. I have to be patient. You just had a baby!! So, you liked that MTV Mix? I do the two sections back-to-back as well.

Nicole ~ Did you get my e-mail? ((((HUGS))))) for you and your ds. :)

Diane Sue ~ Thanks for info about the shoes. I'll check out zappos.com

Lora ~ Do that workout, will ya?! ;-) I think I want to get it. It's at collage as well. At least, I can always return it there, but it's more money & I have to pay for s/h.

Suz/Susan ~ I agree, it makes me mad when I see the issue of either Fitness RX or Oxygen on the stands before I get it delivered to my home! What's up with that?!

Marietta ~ Did you get to leave early? What are you going to do with that co-worker of yours?

Jeanette ~ Have fun at your BBQ bash! Sounds fun! Your grandson is just about my sons age. He turns 7 in Sept. This is our first year with baseball for him. I sure hope all the parents aren't over-the-top.

Christine ~ Have fun with your dh this weekend? How's his mom? Wasn't his boss sick too?

OK, about that leg workout.....I liked it, but think I should go heavier next time. I didn't exactly feel "the burn" like when I do a Cathe DVD, but maybe it'll get me tomorrow. My PT said I should really try to incorporate single leg work. BTW, I have one more session and she thinks I'll be done!!!! I have to bring her something. Any suggestions? She's very athletic. Maybe I should get her a Cathe DVD. :7

Have a wonderful weekend. It's always busy, but I'll try to pop in here. :)

Dallas

Dallas and Susan - thanks! His mom is doing a lot better. His sister's boss reads palms and claims that mom is going to live another 10 years. Wouldn't surprise me! She's so funny. And yes, his boss was sick but got some amoxicillin and started to feel a lot better, so he was able to fly on his own.

Hey Everyone,
Today has been busy... So my workout will be DT chest, tris, and I am thinking of skipping shoulders because I really worked them yesterday in cardio kicks!!

Susan you have been busy with those legs this week!! You go girl!! Susan I have given up on painting my finger nails because it just does not last, but I tell ya painting my toe nails is a MUST!!

Diane Sue when I was researching wt. gloves. I remember Kathryn posting to get sand filled wts.. (It was a no to her having metal) I myself can't see have metal?? I like the give of the sand!!

Dallas got your email and sending one back at-cha:) I think it would have been quicker if I called haha..

Lora I wear my gloves as tight as they will go. I like how they seem like a glove!! Can't wait for you to get yours!! Enjoy!!

Christine hope you have a happy reunion with your dh!!

Have a GOOD weekend everyone!!,

I have to go and make a appetizer for my friends surprise party!!

~Nicole

Dallas, Hmmm, what to bring for your PT....I HIGHLY recommend strawberry creams!!;)
I've given magazine subscriptions (give them the current issue with a note saying "for one year"), make a healthy snack, like granola bars. Even gift certificates for a local restaurant are nice.

Forgot to mention, Yes, I did the Tosha Reno one. I dont think I push myself hard enough. Tomorrow should be my day off, but I think I'll do a light full body w/o.
Susan C.M.

Susan - Yup - I got my Oxygen issue already. It's my first one since I subscribed so maybe they're trying to make a good impression. :p It does irritate me if I have a subscription to something and I see it in the stores first.

Dallas - maybe you could get your PT a massage. That's always good for hard-worked muscles.

Christine - have fun with your DH. I hope he adjusts quickly to being home.

Diane Sue - I keep forgetting to mention it, but I'm happy for you that your DH is home too. Mine will be gone for 3 months next April, May and June to the FBI academy for work. :( It seems so far away, but as quickly as time goes by...

Jeanette - I'm off to read your e-mail. :)

Hi Ladies - Finally home from work. It was a busy day. Get this -- My boss actually thanked me today for making her drink water and told me how it's making her feel better...go figure.....*falls over from shock*.

Okay - yoga ladies - have you ever heard of or done Tilak Pyle's Altar of the Heart? It's one of my favorite yoga DVD's but it's either 75 min or 90 min long (can't remember). It's shot in the Blueridge Mountains. It's not quite as quick moving or difficult as Mark Blanchard or Eion, but it's relaxing and challenging at the same time and the first time I did it - I felt absoultely WONDERFUL. I think after the crazy week I had, I'll do it tommorow with some cardio. So I guess I can't sleep in for that extra half hour or hour tomorrow!!

I guess we'll go see the DaVinci Code this weekend. I'm so happy that it's Friday evening.

I guess I spoke too soon about not being too sore from boxing with the weighted gloves. My delts and tri's are feeling it today and I think may legs may be feeling my AM workout already. I don't know why I feel so strong in the morning's when I lift any more....I swear yoga is making me strong and giving me more stamina.

Well....I'm babbling.......bye for now.

Hey Lora - congratulations on the thank you!

Okay ladies - survey time. Surprise, surprise, we have a sports medicine doctor right here in my little town of 75,000 people! She has a lot of experience in sports medicine AND she's a cyclist apparently. So, the big question - should I go see her or should I go to a pulmonology doctor who can talk lung capacity issues, respiratory stuff, etc., etc? Tough choice, huh? I probably need to find out if the sports one does more than sports injury stuff. Or is a lung specialist better? Oh my, I'm so confused. And, if they don't require it, my insurance doesn't require that I be referred, so I won't feel so silly going back to my doctor for another test of some sort. :)

Thanks for your input. I'm torn.

Suz - Where is the post about what you said was wrong with your lungs and lung capacity. I think I remember seeing something about burning. I don't see it above. Without knowing exactly what was said and from what you say in the above post, I'd say a Pulmonologist. I used to work for a group of Pulmonologists and I also have asthma so I've been on both sides of the visit. Pulmonologists have spirometry testing that is specifically to test your lung capacity/breath etc....since asthma patients are tested this way. Asthma patients actually have a much shorter inhale thatn normal people. Even when being taught the pilates breath (or even yoga), asthma patient are typically taught to inhale (for pilates) 3 breaths in and 7 out ...versus the 5, 5 for normal people. I would think a sports mediicne doctor would be more for sport's injuries. That's just my opinion though and like I said ....I'm not exactly sure what your problem is but breathing tests with respiratory problems are always a good idea.

good luck with everything. I hate doctors.

Lora - it was yesterday in two separate posts - my first one and then one toward the end about the paramedic.

Thanks for your input. That was my concern about a sports medicine doctor.

I hate going to doctors too. I usually only go twice a year - once for a pap and once for a mammogram. Oh joy!

Suz - I have to agree with Lora. Get your lungs checked first. I think what she says makes sense. Good luck Suz - hope you find the cause!

And by the way, I play the saxophone - have since 4th grade (well, played the clarinet then). I have a tough time doing the 5,5 count for yoga and pilates because I'm used to taking deep quick breaths and exhaling slowly. I do a 3, 5 when I run. I'm just weird I guess.
