HARDCORE FITNESS MANIACS AUG 17

Good Morning,

Today I Turbo Fire EZ 45 (last week I was doing just Turbo 45, had the titles mixed up) then I did some Kelly-Coffey abs, I think tomorrow I am going to try one of her new workouts.

Today was cardio and I so wanted to try an hour Cardio Coach workout. So I started with one of the mixes I made up that started with the 2 - 8 minute treks. I got through the first 8 minutes, took the 2 minute rest and started the 2nd 8 minute trek. Within 3 minutes my hip flexor started to burn and get really tight again. It travelled all the way into my inner thigh.

I just don't understand this. Sometimes it bothers me and other times it doesn't. I've stayed off my treadmill for about 6 months and really thought the rest from it would help. Obviously it hasn't. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it. I stretched out really good afterwards and used my foam roller. I just can't believe how tight that muscle is right now. Very frustrating.

I ended up staying on my treadmill doing a steady state walk on a 3% incline (which ended up bothering me, too) and got an hour in.

CARDIO STATS:
60 minutes total
6 minutes below zone
41 minutes in zone
14 minutes above zone
457 calories burned

Good Morning,

Okay I am falling apart and I need advice. A couple of weeks a go I started experience occasional pain in my left glute, no big deal. But now for the past four days my left leg & left foot have this stupid numb/tingling sensation. It's driving me nuts.

I've foamed rolled and all I did yesterday was stretch. But it's still the same today. :(

Debbie - We must of posted at the same time. I feel your frustration. I have a similar problem with the treadmill but it happens with my left knee. Hope it eases up for you!

Good gracious ladies, we are falling apart :( Yesterday I only did the Cardio portion from Walking Stronger, as I slept wrong and my low back was very angry.

Roselyn-the EZ is no joke, good work

Lori-I saw your post from last night, and I will send you some thoughts in a bit.

Debbie-I read in Rachel Cosgrove's book that most everything we do causes our hip flexors to be shortened (desk job, etc...) so I have a few suggestions that may be worth trying....Linda maybe some of this will help the numbness/tingling-although that sounds more nerve related than muscle
1-inserts-maybe superfeet? I just ordered some inserts that are supposed to help with alignment-especially any pronation/supanation
2-new shoes
3-more flexibility training-daily especially any moves that elongate and stretch the hip flexor to counter the motion of sitting-I think a desk job is the cause of most issues related to imbalances (I know it is what is causing my trap issue) and foam rolling.

Linda-are you still taking the Celebrex? And did you do anything unusual that you can remember?

Hey Theresa,

Hope your back is feeling better. No I stopped taking the Celebrex (have thought about starting again for the leg). And no I don't remember anything that started the glute pain, but then I started messing with my kettlebells again and I think that just exacerbated the problem. But boy kettlebells sure are fun!

Hi Everyone!
So funny it seems like we are all on "injured reserve". I took several days off from exercise because of pain in my knee and hip, which is still not completely better.

Also, I am buying a new house (with a bigger workout room - Yippee), so I may be MIA for a while. I have been very busy at work and at home, so I will try to post when I can.

I miss all U maniacs!! Get better soon - EVERYONE!!

Cheryl :)

Lori - I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. How truly sad that is. My dad passed away a little over a year ago. It's still hard to believe he's gone. I miss him terribly. Take as much time with him as you can, you will be surprised how fast time goes by. My dad lived about 2 hours from me and I only seen him a few times out of the year. Now I wish I would have taken more time.

Roselyn - Nice workout. I see you are enjoying the Turbo workouts. If I didn't hate high impact so much, I think I'd get those! The music alone sounds like it's a very worthwhile purchase.

Linda - Have you tried foam rolling it out, although if it hurts really bad, maybe that wouldn't be a good idea? It does sound like a nerve problem to me as well. I'm telling you, I was just telling my dh the other day that I just might have to stop working out for a while. My body is hurting all the time. Both my shoulders now hurt, my knees, my hip flexor, my neck. I don't know how I manage to workout anymore. I'm so afraid that when I get older I'm going to be confined to a wheel chair. I'm at a loss as to what to do as well. I'm scared to death to stop working out. I sure hope you feel better soon. I know how frustrating it is!

Theresa - I sure hope your back is ok. Yikes! We are a bunch of cripples lately. Thank you for taking the time in typing that. I do have a desk job. I do wear inserts - I buy a new pair every 6 months. I have flat feet so if I don't wear inserts I'm a goner. I also try and buy new workout shoes every 6 months, although I have to say my new ones aren't the best I've had. I just don't have the money to spend on shoes that I should be buying, but I do try to at least get a new pair every 6 months. I do think I need to do more flexibility training. Maybe after I'm finished with STS I'll do a yoga/stretch rotation for a few weeks. Maybe stay away from the treadmill and weights for a while and see how it goes. I think it's inevitable at this point.

Cheryl - I was wondering what happened to you. I was ready to send out a search party for you. Hope you can get that knee and hip better. It sucks, doesn't it? I'm frustrated beyond belief with my circumstances right now. I think Theresa has the answer: more stretching.

Debbie-pm me your email address, I have a workout I can send you that still works it w/o killing you-(if you want of course... didn't mean to sound bossy ) :D I just ordered a joint mobility/stretch workout from Amazon, I will let you know how it is. I have also been reading about Qi Quong (spelling....) on dragon door. It is supposed to help w/ everything I have been dealing w/ (trap issues, tight legs). I am convinced that desk work is the root of all evil....and I'm not even on it all day. I am beginning to think that short and sweet are the way to go w/ all exercises (weights, cardio, etc...)

Cheryl-wth is up w/ the knees? Yay for the bigger workout room; glad to have you back :D

Lori-I hope that your father has been able to maintain some quality of life through all this. I don't think it is uncommon for someone to develop a lymphoma especially if they did systemic chemo for another cancer. I'm very glad you got to spend some time with him, I'm sure it was therapeutic for both of you.

Linda-yes the kb's are fun. They have a sale at perform better on them, so I have been stocking up.

Roselyn - Looks like you're getting a lot of good workouts combining Turbo Fire with other stuff. Very curious what you'd think of them after going through Insanity (sentences like that would sound so odd anywhere else).

Linda - That sounds just exactly like a problem I had years ago involving my sciatic nerve - butt pain that radiated down. It was a low back problem but I'd feel it intermittently in my feet and knees - lower leg. I saw a chiropractor - it took a few sessions but when it resolved, it was almost like an "over night, good as new" thing. It sucked though - sorry you're hurting.

Debbie - I thought I'd remembered you lost your dad not so long ago. Part of it is I think we WANT to believe they'll always be around and not think about them dying. Your words hit home for me though. I need to talk/write to him as much as I can now or I'll regret that later. Thank you. Sorry about your bloomin' hip flexor. Extremely frustrating.

Theresa - My back is ticked at me, too. It has a right to be. Not too bad right now, though - I won't push it. Hope yours is doing better today. I thought/hoped you'd have some comments about my pops bout with the cancer. I'd never heard of it before but am not really exposed to medical information like you are. The quality of life problem is really the issue with him now. It's just plummeted - that's the hardest thing about it, I think. He's a strong man and can endure a lot - but not being an invalid. He isn't there yet but I know he thinks about it. He talked to me a lot about my mom. Had some guilt he was carrying (which I didn't know), so that was good. And it was great to be able to see him and DS together. They really connect and DS was a source of light there for us all. He had so much fun - went golfing with one of his uncle's and seems to have some natural ability there. My dad loves golf but can't play anymore - I think he had some vicarious fun through DS and they watched a lot of sports together and stuff. Btw - previewed Providence last night. Looks really good. Wanted to do it right then but - hopefully soon :)

Cheryl - Good to hear from you! How exciting - a new house :D Sorry you've got it going on, too (an injury) - what is up with us? Hope you're back to 100% very soon - have missed hearing from you :D.

Rest day for me today :( - It's probably long overdue - I've been pushing it and maybe trying to "stay ahead" of my emotions/thoughts - so, it's probably important I take it easy today for a lot of reasons. Hope everyone gets feeling better very soon (as in - NOW) and has a good day.

Lori

I finished my workout. I was dragging when I got up but had a good workout. I did Turbo Fire Hiit 20 142 calories Max Hr 162, then I did Turbo Fire 45 45 minutes 399 calories Max HR 167, I finished off with Turbo Fire Core 20 and Abs 10 31 minutes 123 calories. Total time spent was 96 minutes and calories burned was 664. The children and I just got back from running errands in town. Had to hit the post office and gas station so I had a full tank before school starts. We are eating a late lunch. I will probably have to hit town again tomorrow because Dawn is calling in a prescription for my allergies.

Great workout, Diane Sue. Sorry your allergies are still bothering you. I just previewed B. Benton's Butts and Guts. Looks pretty non-stop. I think this one jumped out at me when I was ordering some new stuff as one you'd had/liked (is that right?). It doesn't have anything in it I don't feel ready for (technique-wise) - looks like a very good steady-state (tons of swings ). HOPEFULLY will be up for trying it later this week ... wondered what you thought/if you've ever done the whole thing beginning to end. I can't recall. Thanks for any input :D

Lori

Lori, I have done the whole workout quite a few times. It is pretty non stop. You work through all of the moves with brief breaks and changes then the last portion which is the Express premix is all of it nonstop without rests. It does use moves that are pretty easy to get down with good form. I reall like that one a lot. Like the suitcase squats:) I also like the ab segment on it.

Diane Sue - Thank you. I'm really looking forward to trying it.

Hermia - I saw your post from ... yesterday or the day before (one of those). Meant to tell you I was glad to hear you'd been spending time with family and were doing ok. I'd missed your posts. I don't think I knew (or had forgotten) you had family in AZ. Every time we go there I think I like it better. I think this is partly because my tolerance for winter seems to be lowering. I didn't used to mind it so much but the past couple years ... I don't know. Not anywhere near ready for summer to be ending, that's for sure. AZ didn't fit my stereotyped image for 'desert' either. It's really quite beautiful there. We were in Tucson. Not sure what part of the state your family's in.

-Lori

Hi Lori, I have family in the Valley (I think Tucson is around there, but my AZ geography is not so good), Flagstaff, and then a couple small cities (Young, and Gisela, which is near Payson). I was born in Mesa and briefly lived in Prescott Valley. It sure can get *hot* in the valley. While I'm not a fan of winter, I don't like it to be quite as hot as it gets there. I hope I'll get to go to AZ again soon...we used to go every summer when I was younger, but now, not so much. The last time we went was a couple years ago. There are definitely some beautiful areas, but I mostly associate AZ with really small towns because that's mostly where we are when we visit.

Oh, no workout for moi today. I worked alllllll day. blah. I'm actually a bit sore from yoga yesterday, and it wasn't a particularly intense yoga class either, so I think that illustrates my near lack of workouts the last two weeks. Must get back into things.
