Hi Kim,
Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application and is part of Microsoft Office, along with Word (word processing), PowerPoint (slide shows), and Outlook (email).
You have to pay for Microsoft Office, but you can download Open Office for free:
http://www.openoffice.us.com/
It's basically the same thing as the expensive Microsoft software, and really there's no need for the latter if you just want to make simple spreadsheets.
I just tried copying and pasting from the digital RWH User's Guide, and it does paste fine. However, it will look nicer if you copy from the User's Guide, paste into Notepad or TextEdit (or any really simple typing application that comes with your computer --
not a special word processing application, as it will hold the formatting of the online guide), then copy from Notepad and paste into Excel. You may still want to move things around, but that should give you a good start.
On the top row of the spreadsheet, I put the date of each workout so that each column below the date has all my weights for that date.
You can also print out the spreadsheet if you want to have a hard copy to write on while you work out, then add that day's weights to the spreadsheet later.
Dropbox (
dropbox.com) is a free, downloadable service that will sync files on multiple devices. If you change a file in the Dropbox folder on your laptop computer (e.g., you add the weights that you used for that day's workout), it will update that same file on all synced devices (e.g., your tablet, smartphone, desktop computer, etc.). Even if you only use one device, keeping your files in a Dropbox folder on that device will protect your files in case your device is damaged.
HTH,
Roz
