Haiti...

That poor little island country never seems to get a break. Sending out tears, good thoughts, prayers, etc. to its people and the wonderful people who are trying to help.

Thanks TeTe for posting this. It's so heartbreaking. I'll be thinking of them and talking to my French class about Haiti today.

I had no idea. I was too busy lamenting over American Idol's loss of that Simon dude and thinking about the Orange/Plastic Horsewives of Orange County.

I didn't realize how huge this quake was, there might be 100k dead. Tragic doesn't begin to describe it. :(

I do sincerely hope that it will be used as an opportunity for rebuilding, not just for a better infrastructure but for a better life.

My SIL has family in the one of the hardest hit areas. :( Please keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts.

They're starting to show pictures and aerial video, and it's just horrifying. No one even knows about the countryside. And the worst is yet to come. How do you get food/water/medicine quickly to all those people amidst all that devastation. Those poor, poor people.

This sounds like the tsunami in terms of #s. But the tsunami was spread out over several countries and by comparison this is so concentrated. Then there are all the people who will die of injuries or not being rescued...

I'm so heartbroken by this. I have been helping a Haitian French professor look for a job in the U.S. for several years. He is so nice and gracious, just a lovely man who was trying so hard to move here. He was in Port-au-Prince last I knew...I am hoping and praying that he is okay.

I encourage anyone who can spare it to please donate money!

Jennie & Amy, I'm sending you hope and hugs. Please let us know what you find out about your friends.

We have a friend who left for Haiti last Friday on mission service. We found out that he and his family and the group he is with are all right. As one of our friends said, "His job just got harder." I hope that they can help out even a little in the midst of all this tragedy. I just can't imagine those poor people of Haiti and all that devastation and death. So very horrible.

Thanks TeTe. I'm thinking of your friend too. What a relief that he's okay. I'm sure his group will provide a lot of comfort and help for people who so need it.

My employer did a marching donation program for the tsunami and I am hoping they will do the same for Haiti. I am fortunate to work with people from all over the world who, in times of crisis, work together to help in whatever way they can.

This kind of devastation is so heartbreaking and sad. I can't watch the coverage... I just can't take it... but I've donated what I can and I'm praying in earnest for those poor people, their families and friends, and anyone involved in aid and rescue.

TeTe, I'm so relieved your friends are okay. Amy and Jennie, I'm praying for the safety of your friends and family. Please let us know when you hear something.

Update on my Sister-in-law/family. She has heard from 2 of her relatives, but nothing from her sisters. There's also 2 people Jason (my brother) has been taking care of for years and they haven't heard anything from them. Jason plans on leaving for Haiti tomorrow.

I just found out that my employer is going to do the matching contributions for Haiti. :)

Jennie, your family will be in my thoughts. Keep us posted.

I just saw on cnn's ireport that my friend (through work) and his companion were found alive and well in the nearby city of Jacmel.

I'm so relieved...I don't even know what to say! :)

Please, everyone, keep praying for the people who are still fighting for their lives at this very moment.
