Gym Style vs. Slow and Heavy

I am an avid Cathe exerciser and have purchased all the new DVDs except the gym style and slow and heavy. My question is once I can justify buying some more DVDs, which do you recommend.

I see such great reviews that I'm torn. I'm leaning toward the gym style just because "slow and heavy' seems intimidating. What do you "guys" suggest?

I consider myself an advanced exerciser, but still need to modify some workouts due to leg strength. I presently can suffer through most of 35 lb. barbell squats, though with lunges I wouldn't get very far with that weight. On Pyramid biceps, my heaviest weight is with 12 lbs. (I could probably do 15s, but I am still challenged with 12s because both arms aren't the same strength).

What do you think would help my leg strength and also help chisel the biceps and shoulder area?

Thanks!

Good question! I have the Gym Style and I love them. I saw some good changes in my muscles after doing them for just 2 weeks. I'm trying to decide if I want to spend the money on the Slow & Heavy. I probably will. There are 3 other DVDs I want to buy right now too!!!! Seems like you can never have enough Cathes! I'll be interested in the responses you get.

They're both great!! I love S&H because it's a predictable traditional weight lifting routine (you do 3 sets of 8 reps of just about all exercises). I like Gym Styles b/c she includes pulsing, band work, etc that mixes things up. Also, in S&H, it's a push/pull sequencing (you do chest, then back, for example), and in GS you do assisting muscle groups (Chest & tris, for example, since tris assist in chest work). They both have great benefits for strength gains and muscle mass building, it's just a matter of which type of training you prefer. HTH!

Have you previewed Pyramid Upper and Lower Body? I just got it today over S&H and decided to hold off on GS series.

I adore the Gym Style series! I always get good results with it. It's one of the only tricep workouts where I get DOMS, MM being the other one. I like the S&H series as well, I like the slow count, but it does take a lot of concentration to maintain that through the whole workout. I don't like the leg workout very much in S&H though. I also like the body part grouping for GS better vs the push/pull method in S&H, though you could do that with the S&H series. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks everyone - that was quick! You have confirmed that I would prefer the gym style series first. I think the extreme concentration for the slow & heavy may be "not as fun" as the gym style. - maybe some day!!

Hi Jennifer,
I like the Pyramid series, as well as Cathe's timesavings premixes.
This is a nice way to gradually get to a heavier weight.

That's why I'm tempted to go to the gym style for more definition. Hope it wont make me big in the arms!

I'd go with the Gym Style series. I think either one is effective, but there is a more fun factor in the Gym Styles. I have both and hardly ever do the S&H.

I have both the GS's and S&H, and use the GS's ALL THE TIME!!!!! I pull out the S&H's when I want to break a plateau or take the strength up a notch. So, I think you should get both eventually, but get the GS's first. I think you'll use them more.

The Gym Styles are a good choice.

I have been able to use the GS series to get some great results. I like the S/H series and it has its place in my rotation, but I don't use it as often.

I hope you enjoy your order,
jordan
