The company in Des Moines is interested in me and I have a phone interview scheduled for Friday afternoon! I guess I'll have to let my husband know about the whole thing. I haven't said anything to him yet.

Shoot, they want to talk right about the time I was going to be at the Mother's Day Tea deal at my daughter's preschool. Now I've got to figure out what to do with her during the interview. Maybe I'll have to bribe her with something...

Why haven't you told your husband? I mean, I understand not telling your employer, but why wouldn't you want your DH to know? Just curious.

Only because I didn't want to bring up the subject unless there was a reason. I did tell him the other day that I posted my resume on Careerbuilders.com for a national search, just to see what was out there. I figured I'd just wait to see if the company was interested before bringing up a subject that I thought could potentially cause some friction. He's one of 7 children, and all his family lives here. Plus we have some incredible friends. It would be hard to leave them all.

As it turns out, he's not at all opposed to the idea. Especially when I told him the salary and that they'd pay the relocation expenses. If I got the job, he could start a freelance business and I could support all 3 of us while he got up and running. BIG plus for him!

Congratulations Donna! I'm job hunting too - I haven't made my resume "viewable" on CareerBuilder or Monster, but think I'll give it a try based on your success and Catwoman's on Monster.

Question for everyone - do you believe "everything happens for a reason"?

I got a call from a friend I hadn't talked to in over 23 years, and we were comparing notes about the courses our lives have taken and the "happy accidents" that got us there in terms of jobs, husbands, etc.

Curious to hear what others think!

Joni

For sure. I totally believe that.

I think that CareerBuilder.com is better than Monster.com. I've had a few inquiries just since I posted mine on Friday. Only one that was anything interesting and showed promise, though. But the one on Monster just kind of sits there. I almost might have had excellent timing on the CareerBuilder thing, too. So if it happens that I get offered the job, I will TOTALLY believe in everything happening for a reason.

I'm wondering whether your experience and Catwoman's are signals that I need to get on it!

I've been dragging my feet a little because I'm planning to move to S. Florida with my long-distance boyfriend, which would mean a) moving away from my family and Atlanta where I've lived all my life, and b) giving it a go with him after dating long distance for about 2 years. It feels like a huge risk, but everything seems to be pointing me in that direction.

And my biggest concern? Finding a place that will accommodate the 2 of us AND my Cathe habit! ;)

Joni-
I really am starting to believe in fate, and that everything happens for a reason. In yiddish, it's called "bah-shaart". I am starting to believe in it because I have to for my sanity. If I believed that I was in control of everything I'd go mad. Too many choices. It's like what they teach you in those 12-step programs. Because if you don't believe in a higher power, you will go insane.

So, in short, yes, I think everything happens for a reason.

That's a great point - and I agree completely. I'd never heard the Yiddish term, but now that I think about it there are so many names for it in so many languages and cultures:

Bah-shaart
Destiny
Fate
Serendipity
Kismet
Fortune
Chance
Synchronicity
Karma

Ok - it's real. I can relax now....it really helps to believe in this when it comes to decisionmaking!

:)
