No worries, Laura, I'm not and wasn't offended. I was just throwing in my observations about how varied military pay is (and I'm certainly no expert on the matter). But I do think that even with the disparities, most members of the military have the opportunity to receive wonderful benefits, training, education, etc. There's a huge difference between being poor without opportunities and being poor/underpaid with opportunities.

Thanks Amy. Yep, that's why so many in my family joined the military--none of us could afford college & they were smart enough to get Uncle Sam to pay for it. I almost did it myself, but I knew I'd never survive basic training. Not the physical part of it, the part where someone's in my face telling me what a loser I am. I'd have been on KP duty my entire career.
Of course, if I ever really need to hear it there are clearly certain forum members who'd be more than happy to say it to me here.

Laura, I know Divine is kind of icky, but you have a sense of humor, do you really not see any humor in his character or in any John Water's movie? C'mon, it's funny! Plus, his stuff is all about Baltimore, and I'm a former Baltimoron! I got to see JW speak once and he was so smart and charming and hilarious and, of course, liberal. I bet you would have enjoyed it too!

I have to tell, you, Amy, JW came to Richmond YEARS ago and spoke...this was long before I'd heard of him. Well, we have our own transvestite who is somewhat of a legend around here. His name is Dirtwoman, and, JW had heard of him, and was offended that Dirt was compared to Divine. JW is definitely liberal, but those who got to go out with him and talk to him some were surprised at some of his more mainstream beliefs. Of course, this was before Broadway and stuff, so maybe he's become more open!!!
