Goodbye Sprained Ankle--Hello Stepping Again!!!

Cathlete
Some of you have probably seen me mention elsewhere (again and again) that I hurt my ankle back on August 21st--twisted, sprained it, whatever--it just wasn't good. All I was doing when I hurt it was pivot repeaters on RS--fell right off the step. Well, I am finally recovered enough to do step aerobics again! I did LIS a couple days ago and today I managed LIC. I have to admit I am still a bit nervous of falling again. I was tempted today to do one of my favorite workouts like RS or SB, but thought I'd better stick to the low impact until I'm totally comfortable. Also, my knees were cracking today; on a recent knee cracking thread I said I didn' thave that problem anymore, but I guess I have it again--maybe because of not doing much cardio for a month and a half.

Anyway, just wanted to say "woohoo!"

Lainie,

I guess that's what I did to my right ankle on Sept 7th, Friday nigh. I was bored and home alone so had the bright idea to do the cardio blast from Drillmax. BIG MISTAKE, first it was midnight but I wasn't ready for bed just yet, so I got to about the fourth blast where Cathe is tapping around the bench with feet in the air, somehow I missed with the right foot because it got hung up and I came tumbling down pretty hard and fast. Once I landed my foot was still laying on top of bench on its side. Just plain clumsey and obviously more tired than I thought. It bacame very swollen quickly but I was just glad I didn't break anything, my finger is still hurting from jabbing it on the floor. I've been doing very low impact workouts for the last two weeks and I can ride a stationary bike or do the eliptical just no Bootcamp or Drillmax or anything that requires jumping on the ankle.

I learned my lesson and probably will keep the feet on the floor on that particular move once I'm able to do the workout again. My ankle still hurts if I turn it a certain way. Sad, very sad.

Annette,

I feel for you and I hope it doesn't slow you down too much longer. Isn't it awful how one little momentary thing can mess you up for weeks? Of course, much worse (or better) things can happen in just a moment.

I am now hoping I didn't "woohoo" too soon as my ankle is stiff and aching a bit tonight. How can this still be bothering me? I figure I will see how I feel tomorrow when it comes time to work out. I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't jump so whole-heartedly back into full on workouts. Maybe I should alternate circuits with yoga/Pilates or something like that. Like do yoga tomorrow and then Thursday try another circuit workout. I'm not sure. It's very frustrating and I hope all goes well tomorrow and this is just a little twinge tonight!

Lainie, I'm so pleased for you! But, take it easy OK? Slow and steady is the way to strengthen that ankle again. When you get back to Step Blast, have fun!!!

I'm afraid I might already be over-doing as I feel that ankle today! I might have to go to doing Pilates days in between cardio days or something. Grrr--I just want to jump back into fun workouts!

Hey Lainie,

Glad you're doing better -- but don't overdo it! Remember that we have those new workouts coming, so maybe try to do some more low-impact routines!

Leanne

I sprained mine too and it has messed me up for weeks! I am sooo frustrated and it hurts! I was trying to work out before 6AM because I had such a busy day. I was doing BM2 and fell off while jumping-I don't remember which move. Well, my busy day turned into a day in bed. I've been swollen, black, and blue, and in pain since then. Owweee.

Great job Lainie! The true test will be attempting RS and the dreaded pivot repeater again:) A few years ago I fell off of my step and messed up my ankle for 6 weeks while doing AllStep grapevine-down-the-board-and-over, I tread very carefully while doing that sequence now and remeber exactly where in the workout I hit the skids.:) Glad you are back and stepping again!

Take Care
Laurie:)

Lanie! http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/cheerleader3.gif I am so excited for you. Take it easy this next couple weeks and ease back into it. I am sidelined right now from step also and hope to be back at it soon since the new workouts are almost HERE!!!! Wishing you total healing SOON!
