Going to make someone angry at this post but...

I really can't imagine being able to afford a Road Trip. If I could save up for a vacation, I'd have to do something with my daughter and I think it might involve NYC.

When I got my birthday wish from cathe.com. it made me happy and reminded me of how much I like Cathe.
As you can see, I have been a member since 2004 and only have about 400 posts. I admit I am an avid lurker. Often times, I want to reply and try to get more involved personally, but time, fear of being misunderstood, and lack of expert knowledge of fitness keeps me from posting comments to questions.
Also, my posts seem to be thread killers.

That being said, I don't mind the birthday thread or any other thread that has nothing to do with fitness because I skim posts to see what is relevant to me and what I need to know or am able to answer. A lot of people here know who many members are and have become "cathe friends" and probably appreciate the reminder to wish each other a happy birthday.

I really appreciate all of you who post on a regular basis. So, thank you. I will try to reply more.

I understand where everyone is coming from. I agree that the lack of activity is due to school being back in session or people are on other social networks.

I'm not on facebook or anything, the Cathe forums is the only thing I have subscribed to. I'm not a fitness expert by any means so can't answer alot of the questions people ask. If it is something that I have experience with then no problem or have an opinion about.

I think a monthly birthday shout out is good too, but it doesn't make a difference to me either way.

So maybe we just need to post more topics of discussion out there :)

I, for one, really appreciated BaynerGirl's (Belinda) Happy Birthday thread.

My past year has personally been one of the toughest in my life. I come and lurk once a day and then back onto my life.

So then, to come on this board, where someone who doesn't even know me to take a minute out of their day to wish me well on my birthday - well, I don't know, I think that's really, really great.

The point of my original post has been missed by some, but I think most people understood it. I don't think I said it's wrong to post these messages. I believe I even recognized that it is a very nice gesture.

So the point to be clear, this is not a request to stop posting bday messages, but I'm hoping people start posting more in general. Something I am trying to do as well.

Dela, I did understand your post. And you're right, there isn't as much activity here like there used to be. I would like to see that change as well.

So my post was a vote for both - birthday wishes and more activity!!

:D Best of both worlds, I'll take it!

I haven't been on this forum long and I love coming here and looking at posts to get ideas. I have even posted a few questions and gotten a few responses which is really nice. It was really active here over the summer months it seemed but I don't know if people are busier now with kids in school or what but the activity level has decreased.

I am kind of in the same boat as Morgs about the groups. Being new, there doesn't seem like a good place to go to work your way into a group. Part of me wants to join a check-in group but 1) I am not sure how to do that, 2) I am not sure what one would fit my needs or have people that have similar interests as me and 3) most of them have been going on for so long, I would feel like a party crasher by just posting on one without knowing anyone. (Maybe it is just me being overly shy and I just need to get over it.)

I also have thought how much fun it would be to go on a Road Trip (if Cathe ever visits my neck of the cornfields :p) but then again, I would feel isolated since I don't know very many people in this community (although I am sure if I went people wouldn't ignore me).

As far as the birthday issue, I like Kathryn's idea about a monthly birthday post or something similar (monthly, weekly, daily, whatever) since sending individuals do take up space and can make some people feel left out (which I am sure is not the intent).

I feel the same way that you do about the roadtrips. I would love to go on one, but it also seems like a lot of the attendees know each other pretty well and would be afraid of feeling awkward. I imagine it would still be a lot of fun though.

As far as the checkins go, I joined one earlier this year when janiejoey started a new one for people who had been lurking and hadn't joined. We would love to have you come and join us. We've had people join/drop since we started and are now down to only 3 of us. We were just talking about trying to encourage others to join us as it's nice to have more people. We can't all post every day, but we keep up pretty consistently. Check it out in the Check-in and Challenges forum - we are called Lurkers.

December, really, Morningstar? I should have guessed! ;)

Sorry, in December, we celebrate Christmas and birthdays are ignored. Isn't that the rule? As least, that's what all my other December birthday friends tell me! They get shorted.

But Baynergirl can't stop now - It's my birthday in only two months!

Yeah, well sometimes mine falls on Thanksgiving. Just try to get people to join in on birthday cake when they're already stuffed.

I think once we all get our new DVD's in our hands, we'll have lots to talk about.

I'm a December B'day and that is 100% true! Mine is 5 days before Christmas and one day before my younger (only) brother's birthday. I have been shorted all my life. But I'm not bitter, sniff sniff. ;)
