Getting Our Licks In!

We have a driveway that goes around the house. Rolly and I did our best to keep going around for a certain amount of time. When I got tired of one way then we went the other, for a change. Managed to do this for 30 min. Not easy, it was very boring.

Shoegal, You are doing so well on your workouts. So proud of you! Do enjoy your party and The German Christmas market sounds so interesting. Have fun!

Renee, Congratulations on STS completion for the 2nd time! You worked so hard to get where you are. Keep up the good work. Enjoy your active recovery week. I'll be doing those new workouts right along with you. Yeah!

I can't eat a lot of my bread for fear I'd get a belly on me the size of Santa, but I do indulge every so often. It's mainly for my Joey. He doesn't have a belly, just normal abs. Guys are so lucky sometimes, just in his genes I guess.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Janie

Well I motivated to the Rec center and decided to change it up and do an endurance workout for the legs. I did the routine from STS Meso Cycle 1 Week 1. Didn't seem nearly as hard as the first time I did it and I also went up on my weights for quite a few of the exercises. I sure did break a sweat though!! I think it is funny how so many people in the weight room don't even sweat!

Janie: glad the puppy got his walk. I can't wait to a.) Misty is old enough to walk & 2.) Is potty trained! The bread dies look amazing I can't believe you are so disciplined not to eat a whole loaf. I love Sourdough.

Reene: have fun tonight! I am all about letting my hair Down from time to time! Just don't fall off a barstool ok?!?

Shoegal: a German christmas fair sound so lovely! I am getting together with some momma friends and our kids on Sunday to do some Thanksgiving crafts. How was your wine & cheese date? Sorry about the TV; that's a bummer.

Hi to Elle, Shadowpup & Michelle

I think I have missed a couple of days. Lots of stuff going on. It's good to see everybody checking in, except for our Shadowpup. But hopefully, she will get to drop in and say "hello" this weekend.

Yesterday morning I did HIIT 30/30. I was going to do the ab circuits stability ball abs again, but my back was feeling a liitle tender so I skipped the ab workout. Today, was STS disc 30, shoulders, biceps, and triceps--and I've been feeling the bicep and tricep work all day. Still have two more weeks of STS and then it will be active recovery week. I'm on travel that week, so it will be work out good.

Janie: you guys sure are getting alot of rain. We have had gorgeous fall weather all week. Cool in the morning, in the 60s in the afternoon. Beautiful sunshine and blue skies. The weekend is supposed to be more of the same. But I know what it is liked to have the walkabout routine curtailed by the weather. It does get old after a while. Ripken goes to get groomed on Monday, so naturally the weatherman says it will rain on Tuesday. Never fails.

Shoegal: got to love all those leg presses on HSAT. And the double leg presses really get you, don't they? Contemplating a new television? All I can say is Uh-oh. Last year we broke down and upgraded to a big, flat screen and there were a few peripherals that DH said we just had to have, not to mention the new stand for the tv. Just be prepared to spend more than you thought is all I can say.

Elle: well believe it or not, the Christmas stuff is out here too. So why not put out the decorations at home, right? A couple of years ago, sister came for Thanksgiving and I got all the Christmas decorations done before she came to visit. Speaking of Thanksgiving, my DH just realized that if we do a prime rib roast vice turkey that he will not get oyster dressing. So, we are back to doing turkey, even though it's just the two of us this year.

Laura: I'm hoping the weatherman will allow me to live vicariously through your postings on the snow in Colorado this year. I'm just not ready to think about snow yet. It's great when you push those weight amounts up, isn't it? How can Misty not be old enough to start learning how to walk on a leash? I have to say though that it took Ripken a while to get used to the leash but I started working with him on it as soon as we got him at 8 weeks. Maybe he was too young because he just didn't like it as a pup. We were quite comical. Thank goodness, now, he loves going walkabout on his leash. And yes, the potty training never seems to go fast enough.

Sister: enjoy your night out. You've done a great job on STS this time around. And enjoy your active recovery week next week.

~michelle

Quiet here today. Ripken and I have had two really nice walks this morning. It's another great weather day--the sun is shining and there is a breeze out of the north. Ripken says it is perfect walkabout weather for pups, so we just about walked out legs off this morning. I don't mind walking on days like this and the pup really loves it.

Came back to the marina and vacuumed the inside of the boat. Now I'm contemplating my next task. I'm thinking I might clean up the cockpit and wipe down the cushions on the deck chairs, let them dry and then bring them in for winter storage. Va Tech doesn't play until 3:30 so I can spend some time doing stuff on the boat.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Hi all,

I'm back this weekend and able to spend a time on the computer for personal again! Hope you don't mind if I do this in bits and pieces; it is easier that way and there is a lot to catch up on :)

I'm into my final week of STS meso 3!

<snip>
Well, the karate tournament was amazing. I really didn't know what to expect so the whole experience was more then I imagined.<snip>
I figured the only way I was gong to learn anything was to go for it. <snip> So, I just kept thinking, "circle your opponent, stay light on your feet and be aggressive!" Yeppers, thats just what I did too! ;) So, I came home with 3 trophies! I have never in my life won a trophy, so I am just tickled to death and am looking forward to the next tournament.
Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; while others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than before. Polybius (That was definately how I felt in my sparring match!)

Renee, I always love reading your posts, and especially this one! It is terrific to watch vicariously as you've been advancing in the martial arts. So many of the secrets of your success are in many of the snippets here - you're put in the time to gain basic strength, you're bravely exploring new experiences with an open mind poised to appreciate whatever comes, you place more value on learning than easy victories, and you've combined the mindset of being light/aggressive/persistent in this physical/mental/spiritual sport! I'm so proud of you - was smiling the whole time I read this entry.

Janie, I went back and read a bunch of your posts about the dogs, the bread, and those things on your face. Whew! You have had many challenges lately. You're setting a good example for us, and it's an important reminder that you were able to stop a problem while it was still pre-cancerous. Very important, and yet so easy to let things slide, as I all too often doo ... Thanks for reminding us that the beginning of the year is time to deal with the various medical checkups.

You have not mentioned your neighbor's three dogs in awhile. That picture did look like a big Neopolitan. We had a smaller mastiff nearby when I was small, a big slobbery friendly slouchy dog that looked so scary and had the heart of a teddy bear. However, you never know what sort of upbringing a dog has had, and they act differently outdoors away from their homes. Sometimes being away from their place makes them a little fear aggressive. It sounds like your approach of giving treats has helped. Do you plan to start asking them to "work" for their treats next? Perhaps ask for a SIT before handing a treat? Normally I don't do that with other people's animals but this is a special case, with dogs of that size roaming the neighborhood. It is so unfair to the dogs: even if they are very good dogs, big dogs tend to get into trouble from size alone and not everyone will be like you and willing to try kindness/make friends. And, if they have any meanness in them, other small animals could be harmed. Our neighbor mastiff was fine with dogs, but he was a cat killer. Fortunately we didn't have a cat then. You are wise to be careful of Rolly. ... Oh, that growl/bark? Was it a growl? Our neighbor's dog had a kind of whine-groan noise that sounded like a growl, but was just begging for a little love. Hope your big local dogs were just making that sound in hopes that such a nice lady would come back to say hello again.

Also sounds like Rolly's housetraining is coming back .... ? Hope so - that was very unpleasant for you, though he probably got to liking being by his mom all the time!

Your bread pictures make me wish, again, that we were all neighbors :D :D :D :D

Rest day today. Rolly is very short haired and gets cold really easy, so I'm thinking about making him a sweater or a coat or both. Looking on line to see some free patterns. He most likely won't like it at first, but I think he will get use to it. It's also a cleaning day.

Having luck with the neighbor dogs. They come in now expecting treats with waggy tails and shifting there bodies from side to side like they are excited to see me. Can't seem to get the other dog on my side yet though. He/she keeps his distance and barks. One day we'll be friends. The Mastiff is one big honey (so far) all she does is slimes and is still a little weary. The pit bull is a gem. She is so friendly, sweet and is the most likable of the three. You can see she is an older dog for all the gray hair on her. Who would have guessed that I'd have new friends. Hmmmmm:) We are getting used to each other. Thank you all, for encouraging me to do this. It's working.

Haven't got Rolly and the dogs together yet. Still frightened for Rolly. He is still doing very well on his house training. I'm so proud of him. I think he's got it. Hope I didn't ginx it.

Laura, Great job on the STS legs. You are getting stronger. I sweat too from working out. I think most people do, if they work hard enough. It's sometimes hard not to eat more than I should of bread. It's mainly for my Joey. What can I say, I love to spoil him too.;)

Michelle, Great job on Hiit 30/30 yesterday. I'm glad you are listening to your body and didn't do the ab work. Well done on those shoulders, biceps and triceps and walks with Ripken today as well. You are lucky to have such nice weather. Enjoy it while it lasts. Will this be your last week at the marina cleaning the boat?

Deborah, I love how you talk to us, right now I feel like I'm bursting my buttons. What would we do here on this forum, without you? You make me feel so important.

It's funny, but I'm enjoying the big dogs. Wonder if I should let my neighbor know this. Na, it will come up someday, I'm sure. I think this Mastiff might have a heart of a teddy bear too. So far she has. Hmmmm, making them work a little for the treat sounds like a good idea.:) I was against these dogs roaming freely for more than 16 years. It wasn't working by complaining and threatening, so, with the help of everyone here, they made me realize that a different approach was necessary. It was so frightening at first, my heart felt like it was going to come right out of my chest, but it worked. At least so far. Still not comfortable with them, but getting there. I know there are at least 4 cats that live with these dogs, so I'm thinking one day it will be alright for Rolly to meet them. Very carefully though.

How have you been? Work OK, health OK, family OK? Keep us posted.

Have a nice Sunday everyone,

Janie

Hi Catheletts!

I tried to heat up the yurt to workout yesterday but it never got warm enough. So today I decided to try out Kenpo X from P90X and see how my knee did. I had remembered it being less impact than Cathe's KB DVD which usually involve a lot of jumping! So did alright although my knee did let me know it was there with all the twisting and turning. Than I did Ab Ripper X, which I LOVE to HATE! It truly a tough ab routine and I think I have fairly strong abs. The moves are different and the reps are a lot higher than I normally do so that makes a big difference I guess.

Michelle: good job on the HIIT! Can't wait to try those out again! Enjoy the nice weather for me, it is cold here and snow blowing around from time to time but no accumulation..

Shadowpup: Welcome Back! Enjoy your time at home and keep checking in when you get a chance..

Janey: Rest day sounds nice! I enjoyed mine yesterday, just kind of puttered around the house but didn't really get much done....

Oh I start a 5 day Raw Food Cleanse starting on Monday. It sounds like my energy will be low so other than teaching my class I might take an active rest week with some walks and some yoga, pilates..

I didn't do any yoga this weekend (my classes don't count). I did an hour on the treadmill both Saturday and Sunday.

I went on a roadtrip to Buffalo in search of some boots that are sold out everywhere here and I lucked out. :) I'm trying to figure out how to avoid damaging my shoes while driving. I suppose the easiest thing would be to keep a pair of "driving shoes" in the car but it's such a pain to switch shoes. I guess it's a small sacrifice to pay to save my shoes from the dreaded "black heel".

Janie: I'm glad to hear the dog situation is improving. I didn't know this was going on for 16 years! That's crazy!

Shoegal: I think i'm going to need a new TV soon. I let my ex keep the big screen when we split and opted to keep the treadmill instead. The TV was really big and i would prefer to get one that mounts on the wall.

Laura: Hope your Raw Food Cleanse goes well this week!

Shadowpup: Nice to see you back for a bit! Hope your back is getting better.

Renee: Hope you enjoyed your Bowling night with the pizza and beer. congrats on finishing STS...AGAIN! You rock!

Michelle: Good call on the Turkey vs. Roast. To me, Thanksgiving = Turkey. I was a vegetarian for 8 years and Thanksgiving was the one time of year that i actually missed meat.

Well - I had a great weekend. I managed to motivate Rex to give generously to the Veterans and get rid of tons of clothes. I walked in ceremonously holding a pile of jeans and told him to set about sorting through them. He told me he needed new jeans - but here was an entire pile of them. He got into it - starting trying on clothes - and managed to part with tons of stuff. A lot of it no longer fit - so the choice was sort of made for him. ;) I went through my drawers and got rid of tons of stuff myself. Mostly, shirts . I wanted to go through my shoes but didn't get to it. Funny how I can have all these clothes but nothing to wear?:p

We took our girls to the German Christmas Market and my goodness they were a big hit - everyone loved them. Lord knows I can't resist them - they were so well behaved and beautiful - lots of questions about their breed too. Rex and I bought a big hand carved spoon and some wine. We had lunch outdoors too at the Harmony Inn - it was a warm & beautiful day.

And . . . . drum roll please - we bought a new flat screen plasma tv - after some research DH announced that plasma was the best option for a larger tv. I can't really tell you why plasma was the better option so don't ask me -but it wasn't cheap. We made due with the furniture and set it on a sturdy coffee table that works for now but I'm NOT HAPPY with it!!! One of the stipulations was that we buy something that works very soon. I have to tell you that the picture looks EXACTLY the same as the old rear projection tv we had but then again - I don't really care that much about picture quality or sound - as long as I can see & hear it then I'm good.

Janie - so glad things are working out with the dogs - I think things will continue to improve. :) and it sounds like you are enjoying them to boot!!!

Elle - I was thinking of running on the treadmill this week too - haven't decided but I usually enjoy a good run. I'm afraid I don't know what "black heel" is? And what do these boots look like??? I need to know.

Michelle - We always do Turkey at my Mom's house but I've heard of other people switching things up for TG whatever makes it more festive for you. Broke a decoration over the weekend too  - it has been the year where nearly everything was either already broken or I've done the deed. Oh well.

Renee - We have to hear about your night out - inquiring minds want to know!

Laura - Puppy potty training is not fun - but she'll soon get the hang of it - and she'll probably fall in love with walking fairly quickly too. Enjoy Misty's puppy days - they don't last too long.

Shadowpup - good to hear from you - hope things are going well and your back to healing up well. Have you been able to go riding?

Well I need to get going - hope everyone enjoys their day.

Today was my first day of the cleanse. I spent a lot of the day relaxing & taking it easy. I just finished my Pilates class& ski conditioning. I did all right although my energy was a little bit low.

I am on my iPhone right now so will come back for personals latter

Did Supersets today with Joey. Walked Rolly around the driveway for awhile.

Elle, I do treadmill too when I don't want to think what will be next. Good for you on both days. Glad you got a pair of shoes you liked. Yes, it's worth saving your shoes to change into driving shoes.

Shoegal, I know what it's like getting rid of clothes. And having lots of clothes and still nothing to wear. LOL It does need to be done every now and then, good job. I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves at the Christmas Market. Lunch outdoors there, sounds quaint. Congratulations on the Plasma TV. You will enjoy that for years to come. Yeah!

Laura, Please let us know how the cleanse works for you. I think I would like to do it too. Great job on your classes.

Take care everyone,

Janie

I didn't do any yoga or treadmill yesterday since i didn't want to mess up my hair. My hair is a pain to blow out so in the interest of preserving my hairdresser's hard work, I opted out of sweating last night. I'll most likely do yoga today since it's a little less sweaty than the treadmill.

Shoegal: I drive a stick shift and i always get an ugly scuff mark on the heel of my right shoes from driving. Yesterday I noticed it starting on my newest shoes which i have only drove in twice so I rubbed mink oil into the heel last night and it helped restore the leather. I'm thinking there has got to be a solution to this problem.
My new boots are Aldo's "Brendal" style. They are casual pull on boots with buckles that i love because the leather is so soft and they look great with skinny jeans. If you google " aldo brendal" boot you can see a pic. They were very reasonably priced considering a lot of the boots i was looking at were the same price and not even real leather.

Rolly and I went for a walk around the driveway for about 30. min. Here is his new sweater, that I made from a sleeve of my sweater. I was going to toss it out anyway. He's not use to it, it's only been minutes since I put it on. He started protesting, even though nothing was wrong with him. We strutted around for awhile and he is now tolerating it. This will be nice and warm for him when he is out and about in cold weather.

Elle, Don't blame you for not wanting to get sweaty with a new hair style. Glad to see you will be doing yoga tonight. I should too.

Hi everyone!

Taught my Pilates class, very beginner, which was fine with me! As I am on day two of the raw food cleanse. So far I am doing fine, no big headaches yet which I am surprised by as I drink so much coffee....My energy is a little lower but not to much to make me unable to teach my classes. My DH left this morning for a short business trip and the girls are going to stay with my mom through Thrs. night so that makes the cleansing easier as well, as I don't have to cook for them or make their lunches! Tomorrow is supposed to be the hardest day with just juicing all the way until Thrs. night when we eat a mango salad so wish me luck!!

Elle: I checked out the boots and they do look might nice! My last car was a stick but I didn't get that scuff so I don't know what that might be...maybe your pedals are extra big?

Janie: ahhh how cute! I bet Rolly starts to love his sweater when he realizes it keeps him warm. Are you walking around the drive way to avoid the dogs or the puddles!

Hi to everyone else!

Yesterday i did Shiva Rea's Beginner Flow. Felt great!:D

Janie: Rolly is too cute!!!! The sweater really blends in with his fur. when i first looked at the pic, it looked like he had those rolls that Sharpays and Bull dogs have around their necks.

Laura: You lost me as soon as you mentioned "mango salad". Yuck! I think i must be the only person who doesn't like mango! Good luck with the "juice only" portion of your cleanse.

Quick post--been pretty busy and haven't been able to get here this week. It is week 3 of meso 4: Monday was disc 31, chest and back, Tuesday was Rhythmic Step, and today was disc 39, squat rack legs. I'm not feeling as sore this week which is okay by me.

The weather is still really great here in Virginia and is supposed to last through the weekend (our last one on the boat). Ripken got groomed on Monday and he smells so wonderful now and is just the most handsome boy. He knows it too. He just prances around like: look at me.

I'll be back later for more on the personal side.
~michelle

Monday I did Maximum Intensity Strength!!! Fun - love working on my strength. Yesterday I did SC:Circuit Blast - I'm afraid this is definitely not a favorite and I had trouble motivating myself to finish but finish I did. I didn't remember what it was about and expected more weight work. There was way too much jumping - maybe this will grow on me.

Laura - yes - the cabbage soup diet sounds somewhat similar to this raw food cleanse - except there was meat in there somewhere. I tried that for only like the first couple days a long time ago - and we had a full days worth of veggies, then of fruit - you're right - energy was way low. Good luck Laura - I know you can do it!! What are the benefits of this cleanse?

Elle - I checked out the boots as well - beautiful and very in style right now. I like ALDO - have a couple pairs of pumps from there. :) I agree that you should protect your boots from wear and tear so you can enjoy them longer. ;)

Janie - super great sweater on Rolly!! He looks so handsome and, gee you are so talented. It is so green of you to reuse that sleeve!

Michelle - sad that its the last weekend on the boat - your season is quite long though! I bet Ripken looks great - does he enjoy the groomers? Do you have to leave him there and pick him up later?

On my way to lunch - I'm hungry!:)

I have been super surprised with how well I have done on this cleanse, so far the 'side effects' have been minimal. Today is the hardest day of the cleanse with just 3 juices of bannana and get this parsely:eek::confused::p blended in the blender! Definitley not "a party in the mouth' experience. However I am feeling good overall, rejuivinated and fresher, I guess if I had to put it into words. I just finished my Total Tone Class, and although my muscles felt more tired than normal I was able to make it through just fine.

Tomorrow I am going to the Hot Springs with a girlfriend, who incidentally was going to do the cleanse with me but didn't last through the first day, to soak in the caves for a couple of hours. This will be a nice part of the cleanse, and I might do some yoga later in the day.

Shoegal: the purpose is to detoxify the body from excess toxins that accumulate in our bodies through polution, chemicals in our beauty products and food and sadly water, to rest the digestive system so that it can repair itself and function at a higher level. I have no interest in becoming a 'rawie' and only eat raw, but I did want to do a cleanse before the holidays. Clean out the pipes so to speak before I clog them back up!

Michelle:consistant as always with your workouts! I bet Ripken is a handsome fellow!. I took Misty to the dog park today and she absolutely loved it. I think she has been missing her litter mates. She is so adorable and she gave me my first licks the other day after my P90X Kenpo X workout! I was so excited to tell you that, I am surprised it slipped my mind when I posted that day...

Elle: Do you like Shiva Rea? I have often looked at her DVD"s but something has held me off, maybe the covers...Anyway thanks for the support with the cleanse. I can't believe I haven't had a headache from not drinking caffine!
