Getting one of our puppies back

MAYNARDSMOM

Cathlete
Today is the birthday of our litter of chocolate labs. Try to give you the short version. Dottie was the last one to go at 15 weeks. She was my favorite & the one I would have kept, but at the time we had 4 dogs and didn't need another. (we are now down to 3) So her first home lasted 1 month & they decided they couldn't keep her, nothing to do with Dottie herself just their situation. So we had a contract for all of our puppies covering various things, one of which states that in the event the puppy does not work out AT ANY TIME they come back to us not neccessarily with their $$$ back. So we found her a new home with someone who my DH works with who has another one of our puppies. At this point she had had ALL of her shots & we sold her to them for $100. Originally $450. He has been hemming & hawing since Dec about whether or not he wants to keep her. Short of the Long is she is coming back today.

So here's the kicker - he wants $200 for her!!:mad::mad::mad: MAD doesn't quite cover it!! He has talked to my dh about it a # of times saying he offered her to this person & that. I specifically told him in his kitchen when we took her down "if it does not work out at any point she comes back to us!" "OK OK, No it'll work out" It just burns my biscuit that he thinks he's getting anything let alone double!!

I want her back so I'm going to swallow it just to get her rather than have her passed onto some joe schmo!

OK...I just needed to vent on that one! Thanks for listening.

vent away, tami! that really stinks.
it makes me all warm & fuzzy that you're such a great dog owner!

What a jerk! Although I think he is just blowing smoke. There is no way that someone would actually pay $ 200 for a one year old Labrador, not in this economy.

But I understand that you are going to pay the $ 200, I'd probably do the same thing.

Carola desribed this person perfectly - a jerk.

I am glad Dottie isnt staying with the jerk.

The thing is I do feel bad for the other one they still have & his kids! I'm sure Cocoa will miss her & those kids....lots of tears tonight I imagine.

I won't be there during the drop off, the GF is bringing her when they get out of work. I would have a hard time holding my tongue.

Thanks for your support - you guys are great!

What a jerk. At least you are getting her back before he sold her to some other jerk. Poor puppy she is getting passed around way too much. Many years ago we had a weim who had 9 puppies and we told everyone the same as you did--any problems, any time bring the dog back! Well 1 year went by and the family that bought the biggest male called to say they could not keep him and had to bring him back. They had spoiled him rotten and while they truly loved him they had a big problem. He ate all their furniture, opened the fridge and ate everything in it and then barfed all over the house--not once but many time. They had replaced their furniture only to have it happen again. They loved him. He was wonderful but.....All I could think of was OMG this dog is coming to MY HOUSE! Luckily a very responsible weim breeder took the dog, trained him and found him a good home. You can see I still think about this. We had our dog spayed.

I will never understand people like that. I would feel so bad about getting a doggie that I couldn't (for whatever reason) keep, that it wouldn't even cross my mind to ask the seller to buy her/him back from me!! I'd bring the doggie back to the seller along with her toys, food, vet records, etc.

Sorry he's being such a jerk!!

I'll never understand some people when it comes to animals. I can understand there are circumstances where you would need to surrender a dog, but why do they need money to boot?!! I would be so worried about finding the dog a good loving home. Knowing the animal is loved and cared for would be all the payment I would need.
Thank heavens you take care and keep track of your puppies Tami! :cool:At least your puppies have a forever home no matter what.
I'm very sorry you have to pay for it.

Doesn't the contract cover you here?

It's outrageous that the man wants double what he paid. He's just taking advantage. What a jerk!

Dottie update

OUr Dottie Doo is back where she belongs. We had a "family meeting" & decided to keep her. We can't see where she has any behavior problems other than typical 1 yr old puupy behavior, nothing bad. She listens & is not some wild child.

I do believe the contract should cover us in this instance. My DH said he will give him $150 - the $100 he paid plus the amount he paid to register her but nom ore. We don't want to make a huge stink & make a bigger problem. I'm just gald to have her back. She looks exactly like her mother!

I will have to take her to the vet tomorrow - she has an obvious ear infection IMO. Should be easily cleared up. With the way he thinks I shoudl deduct this from the amount we pay him right?!?

Looks like Dottie is now in a way better home now that she's back w/you!! Also sounds like the vet bill should definitely come out of his $$$$.... Grrr.... what a jerk...

My 8 yr-old yellow lab sends Dottie a sniff and some kisses!!

I would love to potst them but don't know how. :(:(
I use Kodak PIcture Gallery to get my pics on line but don't know much past that...sorry.

Ditto what Carola said!! That's SO despicable and unethical IMO!! I guess your hands are tied, though.
