Georgia Luger

Did you ladies see this? How awful!!! Its a dangerous sport already, and they are saying this Olympic track is one of the most dangerous out there. I feel terrible for his family and friends. To have a dream end in death, horrible!!! We are watching the opening ceremonies parade now, and the rest of the delegates from Georgia are marching in it to honor him. He was so young, only 21. :(

Isn't this the second death? There was a snowboarder earlier this year that was practicing a difficult jump. I don't remember his name, but i think he, too, was killed.

It's so sad! Competitive sports are getting so dangerous! Especially Olympic sports as they are the most challenging. Technology of the equipment and tracks is advancing so fast, but the people are not! It's making these competitions so much more dangerous.

Omg what a tragedy....and I can't imagine what the family must be going through. What really really made me so angry was that on the world news, they showed the actual video, saying before they played it that it was painful to watch, I turned it off...no way was I ever watching that. And then at the beginining of the opening ceremonies they showed pictures (which I turned off again!). Why are they doing this??? who does that??? I know that in live competition, the whole world would have seen it, but the whole world DIDN'T, so dont' capitalize on it just to have a story. How de-sensitized are we?? Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me?

So sad. He was so young. I happened to see the accident on the news and it was horrific. Our local area is looking forward to the luge as the current world champion Erin Hamlin is from our area.

he didn't die, just really messed up. relearning how to walk and talk now. very sad, he will never be the same.

i heard they "officially" ruled the luger's death on human error, too inexperienced. how sad to place blame, i guess they need to protect themselves from lawsuit. perhaps he didn't have the experience, but many others crashed as well and overnight they slowed the track, added barriers, and made some other changes. maybe there should be certain certifications as to handling different levels of speed in order to qualify for events. remember the bobsledding team from jamaica years ago...scary.

This was a horrific accident and they showed it on our news as well. I was shocked when I seen it.

May he rest in peace. I feel so bad for his family.

They always show the accidents, don't they? If he had to go, I'm glad he died doing what he loved, at the height of his passion, going for the dream. Seizing the day - it doesn't always work out, but it is worth it, every time.

Human beings live best in moderation, but we are at our most human when we live to extremes.

Thanks for the memory correction! I'm so terrible with details these days!

It is pathetic that blame has to be placed. The fact that the athlete qualified tells me he was experienced and great at what he did! There's no need for that! Obviously, everyone has always known that this particular luge track has always been the fastest and most dangerous.

I was shocked and very sad, especially when they showed his pictures and the clips that he was carrying his sled. I could not put these with his death news together. I really did not understand why TV news kept showing the real accident. Is the show viewing rate more important than the human dignity? Why somebody had built their fortune on others pain?

All sports involved in certain degree of risk. Like everything else, nowaday, money talk. The reason the athletes push the envelop is money. The risker the move, more excitement, more viewers, more sponsors, => more money.

My daughter is in figure skating. With new system, everybody is pushing limited for more difficult jumps. But human body does not build up that way. That is why some many girls, they had ankles, hips and back problems when they are only in young teenages.

My husband and I were discussing that exact same thing over the weekend. They really did not need to show the footage of the accident. That is just awful and not something that the public needs to see!!!!!:(
