Funny/Crazy Things Pets Do

I'd like to hear your amusing stories because I just KNOW you all have some real doozies and I think we could all use a laugh 'round here. I'll get it started:

I have an orange male tabby who has the build and personality of an angry Siamese (long, lean, sinewy and just plain mean, usually). His name is Tangerine (Tangee) and he has a sock fetish. The first time I realized this I was in my second floor bathroom preparing to go out when I realized he'd been coming and going for some time, behind me. So I looked and didn't see any of the cats. But there were two white socks laying in the hall, just outside the bathroom door. I knew they hadn't been there before and I wondered how they got there as I threw them down the laundry chute, sending them back where they came from. A few minutes later I heard a noise and turned around and there was my boy, with a white sock in his mouth. He looked around, confused, then he dropped the sock and looked at me. He was sure there had been two other socks there when he left... He had been going all the way down to the basement, picking socks up off a pile of dirty whites on the floor and, one at a time, dragging them up two flights of stairs to build a little pile. He's a repeat offender but that was the first time. Anyway, Tangee's an indoor/outdoor cat who prefers being out at night (I'm not crazy about that but he'll drive me bonks if I don't let him out). One morning I was going to get the newspaper and there, lined up neatly on my Welcome mat were three little white socks. Now I was confused. Where did they come from because they certainly weren't mine! He did the same thing again the next day. That day, as I was leaving for work, I looked up and noticed a bunch of shoes and what looked like socks sitting on the front porch, near the entrance of a neighbor's house. Oooooooh. Evidently, the mom at that house made her kids take off their shoes AND socks before entering. My boy was stealing their socks and bringing them to me as presents. I never mentioned it to the neighbor because I was afraid if they knew they might hurt my boy, and they moved soon after, but I always thought that was funny. He doesn't have a neighbor to steal from anymore but he still drags up white socks from my basement from time to time. If he can't find white socks he'll sometimes go after a pair of white underwear but he NEVER touches colored socks!

BTW, I was almost done writing this when Tangee came up and started crawling all over me. I swear, THEY KNOW!

I've got a million funny things my pets do. They make me laugh every single day:)

My golden retriever (my avatar pic) is now 3 years old. Bless his heart, he has every ailment known to a dog, but is still the best gift I've ever gotten. He has to take pills daily, and knows when I pick them up. He starts shaking his head no, and when I say Jack, come on, let's take your pill, he shakes his head no again. Now, more recently, he's started saying no when I get ready to take him back home (stinker), but I have a 1 year old ankle biter who gets on his nerves, so I know he really, truly knows how to tell me no. It's too cute.

My cat meows this way: "Mooooom" I swear she says mom instead of meow.

My old girl who I put down a year ago gave real, serious, paw around the neck hugs (I know a lot of dogs do that, but I had to share something she did that touched me so much)

Pets are so much fun. Mine all cost a fortune, but they're worth every single penny!

I have a 155 pound "humping" Newfoundland named George...he gets a wild look in his eye and even though he is fixed, will try and hump...its actually kinda funny-sometimes.:)

Georgie also loves to watch TV, baseball is one of his favorites along with Animal Planet, he prefers the dog shows...and he loves to stretch with me after I workout, he always knows when its time to stretch, he wanders in and lays down on his back, legs in the air....:7

What a great thread!!!
Too funny about the socks! Did you give the socks back to the neighbors? I would have loved to hear that explanation!

Two funny things about my boy in my avatar.
One is a family secret. He is a dryer pervert! He gets all warm and fuzzy around a hot dryer and bumps himself against me. Not hump, body bump. I have to unload the dryer fast before he comes running! It's very disturbing to my laundry task.

Another thing he does that is hysterical, is that he gives raspberries! Yes, raspberries when he doesn't like a particular food. First time he did it was his first Thanksgiving when we tried to feed him turkey liver. He gave my husband the raspberries every single time my husband put the liver to his lips. My husband was laughing so hard he called all of the family in to see.
What dog hates liver?!!

Many years ago we had a dog named Rosemarie who absolutely would not take a pill. Well she got very sick and her life literally depended on her taking her medicine which she refused to do. one day sitting down on the floor in front of her face to face I told her if she didn't take the pill she would die. She opened her mouth, took her pill and never gave me a fight over it again. Happy to say she survived to live a long life. And what is this about angry siamese?!. I have had siamese for years and they have all been affectionate wonderful guys. I love siamese and don't think I could live without them.

My dog, Fluffy, barks back. My hubby didn't believe me when we fisst got her, b/c she would never do it in front of him or to him then one day she got comfortable with him I guess, and he heard her doing it to me. He was floored. Now she frequently barks back to us both. It is a different bark from her conversation bark. She's definitely talking back and it's so funny and adorable!

My dog, Kayla watches Animal Planet. I swear this dog knows when an animal is on TV and she runs full speed up to our 60 inch TV and bumps the screen with her nose as if she is trying to get the animal to play with her. Then she sits down and makes this god awful whine and looks at me and my husband like it is our fault that she cannot play with the animal! Its pretty funny! Our dogs are our source of entertainment!

LOL!! You HAVE to get that on video and post it on Youtube! I'm laughing just thinking about it.

I have a 12 year bordie collie mix - Angus. We can make him sneeze on command . . . but can't necessarily get him to stop! All we have to do is start saying "achoo" a couple of times and the poor fella starts a-sneezing. Eventually he gets mad at us and barks, but it is a hoot!

Oh my crazy puggle! Every week it's something different. Last week she discovered she could remove the toilet paper from its roll. Now every time I get out of the shower it's missing, usually found in shreds on the LR floor. While I'm thankful it's not an expensive piece of furniture (yeah, she destroyed the sofa in January), going through one roll of TP a day is getting a bit expensive.

And she barks at the TV. Usually when there's a cat on the screen. Sometimes when there's some kind of psychedelic looking commercial on, whether it's bubbles or flowers or whatever, anything colorful and constantly moving just throws her into a tizzy.

First off, I have to come to the defense of Siamese cats everywhere :D and say they've got a bad rep but they really are very sweet and affectionate. The therapist my daughter sees for her ADD has 4 Siamese "Fur Therapists" on staff and they frequently come to visit during our sessions and jump up on our laps. One of the new kittens sucks on its tail like a pacifier! It's so cute. You can actually hear it sucking and see the claws moving in and out. :)

Anyway, I have to tell a funny story about MY kitty, the one in avatar. In addition to posing adorably on computer printers, Fritz is also a very smart cat. So smart he outsmarted my DH one time. DH was playing peek-a-boo with Fritz - getting his attention by wiggling his fingers or making noises, hiding and peeking out at him. Usually when you do this, Fritz will move closer and closer to you until you peek out and discover he's right in front of you. Our kitchen, living room and front hallway flow in a cirlce in our house and DH was kneeling down around a corner in the kitchen playing this game. After a few times Fritz must have gotten bored with the game since he disappeared. DH leaned forward and called his name. No luck. DH then turned around and standing right behind him was Fritz - giving him the "Are we done with this game now?" look. :7

OK, these stories are about other people's pets but I was there for the eye-witness.

My SO's cat, Friendly, loves to be spun. In the morning when SO is putting on his shoes he sits down on the stairs in the kitchen. The cat comes running and crouches down, waiting. Jim will push him over and spin him around on the hardwood floor - he stretches himself out all the way for this and then keeps coming back for more. I was shocked the first time I saw this but he LOVES it!

A few weekends ago Jim's ex-wife was dropping off the boys. She had her two dogs with her and they were investigating the yard. Suddenly I see something heading under the forsythia bush and the dogs race over there. Uh, oh, a bunny. So the dogs are under the bush desperately trying to get the bunny. Now, we're all on the driveway getting ready to grab the dogs when here comes the bunny from under the bush. It hops over to the driveway, gives us a look and then continues around the corner of the house. Meanwhile, both dogs, still under the bush, frantically hunting. You could almost hear the bunny saying, "Suckers!"

I know. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen. Boxers are so funny!
I'm ashamed to admit...my son works for Best Buy and I don't own a camcorder! With his employee discount, that's next on my list.

Suzanne - (BTW, great name - I'm a Suzanne, too! :) )

I've never heard of a cat wanting to be spun! That must be funny to see. Yeah for the bunny! He got away. :)

The looks on those dogs faces when they finally came out from under the bush - too funny. Like "did you see a bunny? we saw a bunny! the bunny was just here! where'd he go?" I do love the big, goofy doggies.

Growing up I had a cat named Puss in Boots, or Bootsie for short. He was the king of the neighborhood, even though he was fixed. No one ruled over Bootsie, but he was a sweetie to the family. He was also our official greeter. Anyone who came to the door was greeted with a meow by him. As if he were saying, "Hello, welcome to my home." Then he would saunter away with dignity.

One day my grandmother who would have happily become a crazy dog lady had circumstances permitted, brought her two dogs over. A dalmation and a lab mix - big dogs. Bootsie greeted them as well, and sauntered over to the wooden rocking chair and hopped up to sit on the cushion with his paws curled underneath his chest. The dogs looked at one another then at Bootsie and ran over to investigate this cheeky creature. Boots calmly took out a paw, swiped the dogs and replaced the paw, oblivious to the "Yipe! Yipe!" from the dogs. Those dogs were not hurt (not even a visable scratch - he had such control), but from that day forward, they respected the King of the Neighborhood.

Tucker, my search dog (and the reason for my user name) was a character (all Aussies are, actually). He would finish his meal and belch - every time - usually right by me as he always came over to me afterwards. Every time he'd belch, he lower his head as if in shame, then grin (the full on smile some dogs can do) and wiggle as if he found it highly amusing. He always made me laugh. I miss him so.

I have one cat, Jaffa, the carries his big red toy mouse down the hall every evening while we're watching t.v. He does a funny loud mau-mau while he's doing it. During the night he brings it back to the bedroom for us to step on when we get up.

Another cat of ours, Squirt, chases her tail and bites it so hard she hurts herself. This makes her angry so she chases it some more. I wish I could get it on video. It's really funny the way she keeps going at it like it's the tails fault she's getting hurt.

My girl Inka is the most food-focused Lab I've ever known, and I realize that is a big statement! If she's sitting near us when we're eating, she leans her head forward and licks the air in the direction of the food. Repeatedly. It's the cutest thing!

We have 5 dogs and 1 cat so there is never a dull moment }(

My Mini Aussie Tuxedo "grins" when I come home or when he gets really excited. The first time I came home after I got him and opened the door, there he was wiggling his butt and pulling his lips back to a wide grin. I almost fell on the floor laughing, it cracks me up every single time he does it, I wish I could get it on camera.

My other boy, Jack, is a real firecracker. He loves to lead the other dogs around on their leash, whenever they dare to run off, he goes right after them, grabbing the leash and dragging them back to me. It doesn't sound that funny when it is written, but watching it, everyone around just cracks up, it's probably the determined expression on his face.

I usually take them out every morning between 4 and 5, the other day, I could not get motivated, I was already dressed without shoes but I was sitting there, starring at the TV, not wanting to move. The dogs are jumping all over me, "come on, let's go, let's go ...", all over sudden Jack disappears and comes back with one of my tennis shoes in his mouth, drops it in front of me, runs off to get the second one and drops it in front of me, so as to say "Come on lady, get crankin' here and put your shoes on".

I think those funny pet stories are too cute. The sock stealing kitty is priceless!!!! ROTFL. Laura, my dogs take the TP roll of the holder as well, now I am hiding the roll and sometimes it becomes a little challenge for whoever is using the toilet and cannot find the roll }( .

Oh these stories are so cute.

Our golden retriever loves to pick up at least 2 things in her mouth at one time. She gets excited when she comes in from outside and runs in one of the rooms and looks for things to pick up. Once in her mouth she runs around crying with delight because she is so proud. Sometimes it will to a sock and one of her toys, two toys, two balls, a large fluffy slipper and a pair of of panties my Dd had dropped when she put up her laundry. It's funny to watch her pick up the items because she will try one, then the other until she gets them both to fit in her mouth just right. She had 2 large bones the other day. One sticking out of each side of her mouth. It look like she was carrying a 2 x 4.
