Friend dicovered melanoma

MAYNARDSMOM

Cathlete
Please say some prayers for one of the women I do daycare for, she just found out she has melanoma. She is only in her mid- 20's. She went last week to the Dr & they removed the mole, got a call today with the results & told her "It's melanoma". She goes Tuesday to a plastic surgeon & will learn more, stage, options etc. She is a nervous wreck, understandably.

Thanks everyone

Good luck to her on the appointment!I hope that they caught it early and are able to remove all of the damaged tissue without having to go through rad or chemo.

With all the cancer out there it is just scary!
A family member was just diagnosed with breast cancer (stage 3). They removed her breast and that is all they are doing for her at this time.

Wishing all well,
Heidi

That is so scary - I know I'd be freaked out too. FWIW, one of my coworkers had one on the side of her neck (it wasn't even really pigmented or the typical "melanoma") - they removed a lot of tissue around it and it all came back clear. I'm hoping for the same luck with your friend...please keep us informed as to how it goes...

Heidi (not the same Heidi as above;))

Melanoma scares the he_ _ out of me, as well as ALL other cancers. I had a skin cancer removed a couple of years ago but it was a basel cell (sp). It seems like I'm always checking myself and am in the derm's office at least 2x per year. I'll be sending her TONS of prayers and good vibes.

Prayers, chants, vibes, your way.

Sending lots of good vibes your way. I just went through this a few weeks ago with my 9 year old DD. She had a suspicious looking mole surgically removed; thank goodness is was just that-a regular mole. But it did scare the heck out of me. Melanoma is on the rise-kids as young as 5 have been diagnosed! Everyone needs to be vigilant.

I too have had 2 spots removed, one being on my forehead. Luckily also just basal cell but enough to keep me in sunblock & out of sunbathing & tanning booths for good!! It amazes me how so many people still don't get it. This woman actually doesn't frequent atnning beds though, she has but only a handfull of times I think. Her Grandmother did also have melanoma when she was in her 30's.

I will keep you posted as to what she finds out Tuesday.

Oh Tami, how scary!

I will say a prayer for your friend. Keep us posted on what they find out.

Poor girl - that's one of the cancers that doesn't play fair...the good thing is, hopefully we'll see more funding for science in the upcoming decade, and SOMETHING will work on that beast.

Of course she has our prayers and best wishes...keep us posted ok?

The surgeon that removed the basal cell I had said that melanoma isn't just from sun exposure/tanning beds like what I thought. Unfortunately, when I was in high school and college, the beach and tanning beds were the thing to do. I've done both WAY too many times to count. Scary.

Update

This afternoon is when she has her spt with the PS at 1:45. Please pray for her & her family.
They received another blow yesterday, when she came to pick the kids up she said her DH got laid off from work. "couldn't have been worse timing" she says. Afterwards I got thinking, maybe this is the perfect timing actually. This was he will be able to be there for her if she has to have alot of treatments ????? Keeping them in my prayers.

Thanks ladies!
