For Annette ( Aqua-Jock).

Cathlete
Annette,

I could not go to sleep tonight without letting you know how I felt about the way you responded to "tytbody" on the "change" thread. My goodness, I expected so much more class form you. Maybe, he/she does'nt have the grammatical or spelling skills you have. To have made fun of her like that was unfair, period. I have always had so much respect for you on this board and will contiue to. I simply wanted you to know how I felt. dmd:(

In defense of A-Jock..

..though I know it isn't necessary. Mockery is a subtle art and Annette is a master. I hated the musical Chicago but I keep hearing the refrain, "She had it comin'," as I read your post. Ask and you shall receive. Will this never end? I saw a lot of steam get blown off by a bunch of annoyed old timers. I was annoyed and I am ridiculously difficult to annoy. Without regard to class, let's don't start class warfare, you might as well chide all of us who found it so amusing, which it was. Annette was merely doing her job which is to use her intellect and scathing wit to show that the absurdity of the whole question of anyone's need to change. Waxing philosophical is a tricky business and not easily pulled off by the masses. I guess we should put spell checking and intellectulaizing check on the list of things that need changing around here. A-Jock doesn't tiptoe around anyone. My only regret is taking it seriously in the first place.

RE: In defense of A-Jock..

There is more to life than allowing ourselves to get offended by some one elses comments. If you get offended it is your choice to do so. Do not blame anyone but yourself. Life is too short to get into a pi$$ing match about words. When I have such negative thoughts, I reflect on my blessings in life, to bring me back to earth.

AJ/ Bobbi/ Kathrn/ Sooooooooooooosan and 'Rocky'/ Debbie (There are so many of you): Your posts have entertained me and never offended me. This forum is entertaining and informative, which is why I continue to read it almost daily. It is not my preference to "post" just for the sake of talking. Mainly I have been a lurker as JAFit Mama and Likes2bfit in the early days, however I read these pages almost daily.

Sorry so long here. My point is that this is a great place to visit, and if a post or person posting bothers you don't read it or respond to it. Comments can only become bothersome if you allow them to.

Hey everyone~ enjoy the day and go work up a good sweat with your favorite Cathe killer workout!

RE:

Thanks for posting this. Not because I agree with your sentiment but because it pointed me in the direction of a thread I might have missed. I whole heartedly agree with what Annette, Kathryn, Bobbi said there. I'm not an old-timer but I've been coming here for more than two years (like a lot of people I read the forum long before I registered and began posting) and I've become less fond of this place. There are a lot of great women (and a few men) on this forum who form a very supportive and inclusive group. This forum was not "broke" but it has been spoiled in recent months. I hardly come here anymore and when I do, I only open those threads started by those I am familiar with. Not all change is for the better.

When it comes to spelling, I have no objection to reading posts written by people who can't spell or use grammar properly because I am well aware that not everybody can and not everybody is taught how to do this. However, *every* single person who posts on this forum has access to a computer with a spell checking programme of some kind. Would it really hurt for these people to use it? Have a little thought for those who can spell and do know how to use grammar and punctuation. That is not too much to ask.

As for those who use numbers in place of words... x( I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you think you are being charged per character. Well, you're not. If you haven't got the time to write real words, then you haven't got the time to post.

Oh come on!

DMD, I have to tell you that I was so taken aback by your topic that I had to go find the other thread, print it out & read it from beginning to end.

I am TOTALLY confused by what you call A-Jock's "unfair" behavior. I see her usual sense of humor. She was trying to turn a pi$$ing contest into humor--being a peacemaker.

I do consider myself to be an "old-timer" here I was around before Cathe changed her forum to this one (I don't even remember when that was it was so long ago) & I have been so disgusted with the changes that I see coming about that more often than not I find myself pi$$ed off by how offended others are. A while back someone posted that it seems people need to get thicker skin. Yep, they really do.

Ok, so maybe you haven't been around long enough to know A-J's sense of humor--I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. However, this is just another example of "newbies" coming in & making assumptions before getting to know the lay of the land.

Kathryn very often comes across as bossy (please take no offense Kathryn). However, before telling her off, I got to "know" her & have come to appreciate her knowledge.

Lately I have been reading topics that really make me hate coming here anymore. Actually, I had stayed away for a long time because it was getting bad. Then it got better, now it's bad again.

People need to get over themselves & quit taking things so personally -- even when a response wasn't meant for you.

Personally I think A-J said it best in the "I wish" topic

"Ah, Starrynumeral, I could never stop coming here. And in fact about an hour after I said I'd never post on the Ask Cathe forum, I . . . well . . . did. It usually takes me a lot less time to go ahead and do something I said I'd never do again, so an hour is a record of sorts for me.

Although I stand by my alternately wistful and sullen comment on the thread on Ask Cathe that got this whole thing started that the tone and tenor of these forums have changed, I value them too much to let 'em go. Too many nice people HAVE come on here in days and years past to toss out the baby with the bathwater. Sadly, too many nice people like Honeybunch and Getnfit@39 have absented themselves, perhaps for the reasons we're talking about now.

In fact, I remember when Getnfit@39 first made her appearance to my recollection: after having already lost 147 (that is not a typo) pounds, she was desperate because the scale hadn't budged that week. I and the Real Cathe-Ites barraged her with encouragement and, more importantly, information from personal experience and study. And Donna / Getnfit@39 was and is one kick-@&& broad. I miss her.

There are too many people like her, people who want fitness for its own sake and are willing to work for it, people who come here because of that, to walk away from this forum. These are my sisters; they reflect my values, and they take away some of the loneliness of living fitness in an unhealthy society. From that singular bond arise other life issues to discuss.

I may get impatient with narcissistic (sp? it's too late and i'm too bald to care) infomercial-oids who drift over here, but impatience is all I'll ever get, never my walkin' shoes."

I remember when Donna first appeared too, she was gettinfit@38--wasn't she? Now she's gone & I miss her too. Didn't Donna shave her head in support for A-jock? I remember reading that she was going to or did I dream that?

Honeybunch got fed up & booked a long time ago.

And Trevor, bless his pee pickin' little heart was chased off. I miss his comments--even when they were sarcastic.

My hope is that they still lurk & know that we do miss them.

edited because I spelled a bunch of stuff wrong--don't shoot me A-j! LOL

Ok, I've made this way too long but I think you get the point--I hope.

I do hope you were able to sleep after this.

Now, if everyone will excuse me, I have to go pumice the callouses off my heels.

I have to agree with dmd. I really struggled with just ignoring it and chalking it up to blowing off steam. I have read the forum for a long time (and I rarely have anything to say) and I have always found it to be a fun, supportive place with lots of ideas an motivation. I really felt that "all were welcome" regardless of number of posts or number of years. Also, that there were no "stupid" questions. The drill was, if you weren't interested in the question, you left it alone.

I found the Annette's comment cruel and the fact that other people jumped in to congratulate her even more cruel. Imagine being that person who was simply trying to participate and seeing other women "high fiving" each other for being cruel. Some of the other comments about the Ask Cathe column were also unflattering.

It also dilutes the credibility of the answers when long or short time users see that if you don't ask a question that is popular, it is open to jeering.

I have really changed how I look at the type of support given and asked for on this board after that post in particular. I may not have thousands of posts, but I added and participated and was very dissappointed to see something so sour.

RE: Oh come on!

Hey there~
Honestly, I do agree with you all about what I choose to be offended with or not and even that the "thread" was exasperating. Few are more impressed, inspired, or entertained than I by Annette's brand of humor. However, for all AJ's cunning, I simply thought that even she could of found a better way to say what she had to ( and yes something had to be said). I apprecaite your views on all this. dmd:)

RE: Deb!

Man, dmd, and I thought it was just me. You took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you!

I guess I still do like to feel validated every now and then. LOL!
:)

As far as spill check and propur grammer. I gis I'm a tolerant sole and expekt the same frum others.

I guess to some of you that last sentence was like fingernails scratching on a black board. Couldn't resist ;)

RE: Deb!

Hmm, well, personally, I think time is better spent pummeling off the callouses than getting involved in flame wars, anyway. :)

RE: Deb!

Wow, Deb thanks...you of all people have to know how difficult it was for me to say a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g. Again, you are the good will ambassador of this place and along with AJ, Bobbi,Magambo and so many others the reason I love this place. Have a good day my friend.

I may be wrong but one of the reasons I found no crueltyin in A-Jock's jab was that I perceived the tenor of the original sentiments as rather mean spirited.

See, that's not how I perceived the initial post there. I don't know for sure but I get the impression (& could very well be wrong) that tytbody is not American & thus has difficulty with the English language--PEOPLE I'M GIVING THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT HERE NOT TRYING TO BE 'RACIAL' OR 'ELITIST'. I have found her posts to be less than gramatically or verbally accurate & thus have assumed that she is writing in a language she is less familiar with than a native language. Or maybe she is not from an area where she got a "great" education. I don't know. But I didn't take it as mean spirited but as a genuine curiousity as to why some people seem afraid of change. I, however, will admit that I found the question to be pointless.

I took her post to be a question of genuine interest. None of her previous posts have been mean spirited.

Many questions of a superficial nature are asked on this forum,ie,"What makeup products do you use?", "Do you use self tanning products?", etc.

Her question was of an existential nature and meaningful. Why would I think it wasn't? There was no threatening tone to it whatsoever.

I may be reading into it, but I think the original post was an attempt to get people to change, or to rally support for change, couched in the guise of an "existential" query.

As for A-Jock's post that is the subject of this thread: I think Tytbody would have remained oblivious to any negative tone in it if she hadn't seen THIS thread.
