FITNESS NOT FACEBOOK: JUNE

Stacy - you seem really out of sorts. Good on you for doing something! Keep at it. I know what you mean about the potential for injury when feeling sluggish. I tweeked my achilles tendon a couple of days ago, because I was getting tired. I haven't tried the BH 10 minute abs. Just wait until you try the full w/o ;)
Re your weight - I don't know where you been in the past???? I'm off on holiday in just under 3 weeks, and I'd love to trim my thighs a bit more.....

Stacy - over 2 hours outside sounds wonderful. All that vitamin D will have done you so much good.

I did Hiit 30/30 today, plus Xtrain Legs (premix with Barre). My legs are really feeling this rotation.... it better had work.

I am a bit out of sorts, but I consider it a bump in the road!

The Rock Bottoms rotation sounds tempting!

I actually did the full BH core workout before I went out of town Saturday morning. I was a bit bummed that I didnt have DOMS the next day though I did feel like I got a decent workout while doing it. There were a few side plank moves that I had to skip b/c they either hurt my wrists or my shoulder joint.

As far as my weight, I used to be about 110-115 lbs many moons ago. Fast forward 20-25 yrs and I'm about 133-135 lbs and feel very chubby and soft. I'd LOVE to be about 120 lbs, not sure if I can sustain the super clean eating required to get down to my younger days, pre-perimenopausal 110-115 lb. I have put on some muscle with Cathe's workouts over the years but most of my weight gain has been body fat unfortunately :(

Stacy - you must have a stronger core than me! I always get doms in my sides after the BH core w/o!
I've given up trying to be the weight I used to be. I've completely changed shape. Even though I have decent muscles, nothing seems quite as firm as it used to be  The older I get, the cleaner I have to eat. Sugar (in any form - fruit, honey etc) is a killer for me. Also, I have to eat any carbs straight after a w/o, otherwise they don't give me energy, but go straight on my hips! However, I do eat LOADS. I consume about 2000 - 2500 cals a day - it just has to be the right stuff.
I quite like what this this person has to say about food:
Zoë Harcombe; Obesity Researcher, Author The Harcombe Diet
I've got a very early start tomorrow, plus a tough w/o day. Why do these things always all come together?
Take care, Justine

A killer today - Xtrain Burn sets upper body, plus the BBW from Rock Bottoms. I may just collapse. Plus it's 23C and really humid.
This better work!
Hope you're all well,
Justine

Sounds brutal! I can never seem to make it thru a total Burn Sets upper body, I go pretty heavy and by the end I feel as if my weight is less than I could have been had I done it as a split. Are you doing two workouts on Saturdays as the rotation says?

Yes, I'm doing the double(s). It's quite a time commitment - but I'm based at home, so can live in my workout gear and just slip in a w/o when I think I can manage. Although it means there are no excuses.........
Did Crossfire today (instead of intensity, which I don't have). I was rubbish. My legs were tight from the start, and I felt like throwing my weights at the screen halfway through! My legs are obviously getting tired - that's good, right?
I MAY do some yoga later, but I'm a bit meh about everything. Tomorrow will be half way through the rotation.
What's everyone else up to?
Justine

Sorry I been MIA, but I do exist :) I have adjusted my rotation, but I'm still working out six days a week :D Been in a bit of a mental funk, but I'm snapping out of it. I needed a break from heavy lifting, so I've ended my STS rotation. This was my last week anyway. I did Muscle Max UB premix yesterday to make sure I get all my UB work in for the week. I've also completed 2 spinning workouts this week. Tomorrow will be some type of leg workout, whatever I'm in the mood for in the morning. Most likely XT Legs.

My hiking trip is next week and I can't wait for the break from structured workouts. I was going to do a gym style rotation once I returned, but now I think I'm leaning toward doing my Rush Fit strength workouts. Ihaven't done them yet, and I'd really like to. So three days of spinning and three day of RF is sounding good to me :D

I've done the XT Burn Sets UB premix....it's LONG!! But a very good UB workout.

Hi All,

Tuesday I did a short spin and 30 minutes of core work.
Wednesday I only had time to do a core workout in the evening
This morning I walk/jogged 6.5 miles.

I also got my STS T-shirt in the mail this week! I liked it so much I ordered another one!

Stacy-Perimenopause/Menopause can be challenging! I really think that working out is the best thing we can do for it.

Justine-Sounds like you are doing some intense workouts! Do you work from home? That's great if you do! Makes it easier to get workouts in.

I work part-time, usually an afternoon shift, so mornings are my typical workout times. Family commitments make weekend training difficult so I try to do as much as I can Monday-Friday.

Toni-hope you have a great trip!

Sounds like we're all in a bit of funk, but working thru it. Yay, Us!! :)

I'm swamped with work stuff this week, so trying to clean up the diet this week, doing okay with that, but not where it needs to be yet.

I'm envious of those of you who work from home, but I'm sure that has its own set of issues, like feeling like you have tons of time and then wasting it. (My hubby works from home but says he never has time to workout, hmmm!)

I generally work about 50 hrs a week, some nights as well, and one weekend a month. I'm going to be on vacation soon, not doing anything in particular, so hoping to get in some good workouts that week! This week is more of a "do what I can do" week.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

My legs.

Today was Leaner legs (I LOVE that one) plus HiiT Pyramid, plus BBW (which is just like doing Leaner legs again.) And that was after a 5 mile walk! When I got to the Barre section of BBW, it actually felt like a rest.;)
I seem to have got over my funk from yesterday. Perhaps I was a bit burnt out?
I sort of work from home - my home is my work. I run an organic farm - we are self-sufficient - and have school visits and give talks etc. Some weeks I only work a few hours, others (summer) it can be a long week. Stacy - how do you even CONSIDER working out after a 50 hour week? Hats off to you, girl.

Toni - a hiking trip sounds great. Will it be a toughie?
Judy - I love the way you mix loads of things up. I'm going to try to more of that (like get my bike out, try jogging :( etc)
Hope everyone's well!
Justine

Hi All,

This morning I did X-Train Bi's & Tri's and Core 2. I added a few medicine ball sets to the core work. I currently have the 6 pound medicine ball, but think I'm about ready to move up to an 8 lb one.

Stacy-Wow! 50 hour work weeks are very tough. I remember those days and they were very challenging. Good for you for keeping up your training!

Justine-It sounds like you had an awesome leg day! I need to do more leg workouts. My philosophy has sort of been that if I run/walk/bike then I don't need to do as much weight training for legs. I know that is flawed logic  I think I will do X-Train legs tomorrow.

Have a great weekend and take care,

Judy

Thx, some weeks are harder than others to muster up the energy for a workout!

Justine, my legs are tired just reading about your leg workout!

Fridays are always my rest day.

Good work everyone!

The highlights of my week, thus far, were doing To The Max Extreme premix. LOVED it. I also did the step section of Step, Pump, & Jump -- first time in more than 10 years. Love that one.

Trying to learn Athletic Step. I thought the choreography in this one is supposed to be easy... not for me. I have pretty much mastered the first combo and tried to venture into the second section. There seems to be a lot of turning/pivoting in this workout. I'll take cha chas and mambos over a lot of spinning/turning on the step any day.

I think I already posted about doing High Reps for the first time this week!

I've just bought To The Max as a download - luckily they don't come with premixes :D, so I'll take your word for it, Swimmer ;)
Did Bob's Pure Strength today. Haven't done it for an age. I used to do the entire thing with the same weight dumbells - this time I needed to keep changing. My legs are much stronger - I barely noticed the jumping squats
However, one of my shoulders felt really sore and even with light weights I couldn't manage shoulder presses and isometric holds. Not the best w/o I've ever had.
I tried STS circuit blast for the first time. Although I had to leave out the shoulder stuff, I felt it was very do-able. I like the way it changes all the time. One for a slightly easier day, I think.
Judy - did you do XTrain legs?

Checkin' in from work (shhh, don't tell!). I love To The Max, but it's a bit tough on my knees, so dont do it as often as I'd like.

What is STS Circuit Blast?

I ordered Mindy Mylrea's new Intensity Overload-No Equipment Required tabata/interval cardio workout. Should be delivered early in the week!

Ok, back to work, hope to get a workout in later tonight!

This morning I did X-Train legs-Premix 4 (Standing & Floor leg work & Rear Delt section). I added a little core work of my own, just doing some side bends and crunches. I'm really glad that I posted about doing more leg work, as that motivated me to do it today:)

Irongrl, I havent done the Rear Delt work yet in Xtrain, how is it?

Justine, are you adding any upper body work to the Rock Bottoms rotation? I was really looking it over today, with my work schedule I realistically doubt I can do the doubles or even get in 6 days a week, so trying to figure out how to tweak it. Are there workouts/days you consider "must do" for this rotation?

Swimmer, I also found Athletic Step harder to learn than I had anticipated. I'm also going to give Cardio Core Circuit another try. I havent done it for a LONG time b/c it bothered my knees, but my knee trouble has slowly been improving over the years, not sure if it's because I'm not doing workouts that previously bothered them or I'm getting rehab'd!!

Hi Stacy! I'm doing the rotation pretty much as written. The changes are only where I don't have the dvd, plus I'm throwing in some yoga where possible. I worried about losing U/B definition that I'd worked so hard to achieve - TBH there's more cardio and less weights work than I'd like in this rotation. There's only 1 U/B weights workout over the 4 weeks, although there are quite a few total body w/os.
Now, I'm hoping that this isn't what has caused me to gain weight.......
what I'm hoping is that DOMS=water retention, and that any new routine which is tough shows as a gain on the scale. It's only 3lb, but still :(
My legs are certainly stronger than they were 2 weeks ago. I think my bum is 'higher and tighter' too. I did try to measure my thighs, but I can get 3 different measurements in as many minutes.
I've heard people say that the Xtrain Cardio+Strength has really worked for the lower body. I'd have tried this - only I'd got a bit fed up of Xtrain after 90 days
Off to do To The Max now....wish me luck, it's my first time.
PS Circuit Blast is in the Shock Cardio set (and it's easier than the HiiT ones)

Hi Justine,

Reading your post above, i thought I might add my comments and eventually encourage you to complete your rotation. Do not give up. If you are new to intense weight and cardio training, water retention happen. It's a normal response from your body. Carry on and as your body adjust to the change in your workout routine you will start gaining result.

I have just realised you have just added To the max to your collection. I love TTM. This has tremendously helped me slimmed down my lower body and loose weight while I was on STS;););).

I went to visit very good friends this week end, was wearing a pretty tight pencil dress and as soon as they saw me their look went straight to my lower body. Their comment was I have slimmed down!

I did not gain this type of result over a night! I have been on various cathe's programs and will carry on changing my routines. The key is constant change throughout cross training. I did experience water retention when I started weight training about seven years ago. When I switched from total body weight training to split program again my body. I still carried on combining weight and intense cardio plus metabolic and my body started to gain more muscles and definition, slimming down in the process.;)

Justine, Feel free to change the rotation adding weight sessions should you want. It's your rotation at the end of the day! You need a routine which work for you.

All the very best with TTM, hope you love it at least the way I do. It's one of the ultimate cathe's gem:eek::eek:

Nathalie - thank you for your response. It will keep me motivated! I have only been doing heavy weights for about 4 months now (I did Xtrain 90 day rotation). Do you think that just changing to a different routine could cause the weight gain? Obviously I'm now doing much more leg work. Weight loss isn't my aim - HOWEVER - I don't really want to gain, either!
Well done on 7 years of weight training! An inspiration!!
I have just finished TTM - really enjoyed it. My favourite is still Tabatacise, though
Any more tips? I'd be very grateful.
Justine
