FITNESS NOT FACEBOOK: JUNE

I too envy all you runners!! I've tried to become a runner and always end up limping with knee pain :( I do okay on a treadmill with walk/jog intervals though, so I try to be content with that.

Unplanned Rest day (I know I'm supposed to post what I DID not what I didnt) Enough said!

Irongrl, just wanted to clarify. You said alot of ppl on Spinervals use bikes/trainers, but you still can do them with a spinning bike, right? (I know sounds like a dumb question but just double checking!)

That's not a dumb question at all. I do them with a spinning bike. I've thought about using a bike/trainer, but since I don't compete or even ride that much outside, I prefer using the spinning bike. I ride more indoors than outdoors at this point.

I also had a rest day today.

The weekend is almost here!

I wanted to workout before work, but wanted something low impact and "easy". Don't know why I always think Turbo Barre is going to be an "easy" workout!

How many of you are following a specific workout rotation??

Yesterday was STS M2 W2 CH,SH,&TR. Slowly increasing those weights :D Today was a Spinning DVD for endurance. We keep the cadance between 80-110 RPM and the heart rate at 65-75% of max heart rate. I can keep the cadance, but my heart rate needs to be lower. This workout is 'easy' compared to other spinning workouts, but good none the less. My HR monitor still says I burned 500 calories. I'm alway skeptical about how acurrate those are...

My current rotation is STS 3.5 month schedule. I'm doing my own cardio. Basically 1 of Cathe's intense workouts, 1 intense spinninng workout, 1 endurance spinning workout. Will do this for duration of M2(2 weeks left) but haven't figured out what I will do for M3 in terms of cardio yet. And since I"m working on my last 1/2 inch of belly, I'm pulling doubles here and there. I will do 2 this week. My doubles are any one of the three MMA workouts from the STS Cardo Series.

Hi all,
today - 5 mile walk, Xtrain Cardio leg blast extreme mix, lower body sculpt and pilates based abs. I used 13kg weights for the legs (just over 28 lbs), so if I can climb the stairs to bed tonight, I'll be very surprised

Toni - interesting to hear what you're doing with STS. Choosing different styles of cardio like you have seems a good idea. I'm starting STS in July (post holiday). I'll be picking your brains about that!

Stacy - I've never tried Turbo Barre - but have heard it creeps up on you. I'm not sure I'm flexible enough for Barre work ????
Buneknek - HC looks great - are you seeing results?

I like doing rotations - if I don't, I start to doubt myself, worrying when I don't see change quickly enough. With a rotation, I know it's worked for others, so will work for me...if I just stick at it. Talking of which - I'll post my Xtrain 90 day results on Sunday. :(

Hi,
I just received the STS program yesterday. I plan on starting it some time in July, as soon as I get my 1 rep max tests done and all of the equipment together. For now, I am doing mostly X-Train workouts, core workouts, and my cardio is indoor cycling, or outdoor run/walk or mountain biking.

For Toni, depending on which HR monitor you have, I tend to think they are pretty accurate for calorie count. Of the ones I've used, I think the Timex one was the only one that was off on the high side. Here is a formula that I have used before, that I think it pretty accurate too:

Triathlon Training Blog > Calculate Calories Burned

Today I did a 90 minute spin workout using a Spinerval "On The Road" virtual ride up Gates Pass in Arizona.

I'm liking the sound of STS in July!! I've had it but only got thru the 2nd week of Meso 2 b/c I felt I needed a weight bench and couldnt find one that I liked or fit in my workout area. I'm hoping Cathe starts selling the Tower again! I never did the 1 Rep Max's. STS Meso 1 I just used what I would normally use for Cathe's weight workouts and when I went to Meso 2, say if was using 12's for biceps I jumped to 15's. Seemed to work for the 6 weeks I did it. I tend to get rotation ADHD.

Justine, you really don't need much flexibility for Turbo Barre. You should do it!!

I remember the HC DOMS! I have Vol 1 & 2, so far have only done Volume 1.

It's been a busy week, so I haven't been posting. I'll spare you the details of my workouts and just focus on the highlights. For the first time, I've tried the hypertrophy STS disks---love them a lot better than meso cycle 1. I also popped in BodyMax2 for the first time, and the morning I tried it, I was too mentally zapped to deal with the choreography. Man, she just starts right out, doesn't she? And it moves so fast. It looks like fun, so I'll pop it in again when I am more focused. I also worked more on relearning Step Blast (I'm still trying to master the first combo and will move on from there). I've decided that step slams are not on my list of favorite moves. This morning, I did Drill Max for the first time. WHEW. That one is a killer. I modified some of the core/pushup moves, changed them to just push ups. Overall, I enjoyed this one and might have to add the leg premix to my killer leg day (I almost collapsed during the segments where you hold the stability ball and the plie squats---my legs were telling me, "listen, you are 50 years old, what is wrong with you, please stop." haha!!! Then the firewalkers.... The sad thing is that I'll never have Cathe legs, even after all of that. I also love using the band for back/shoulders.

Hi all,
Swimmer - Drill Max does sound like a killer - good on you for getting through it! What is it about STS Meso 2 which makes it better than Meso 1? Is it a rep thing?
Stacy / Judy - I'm up for STS in July. I've also got some 1RMs to do, plus sort out equipment, but I'm keen to give it my best.

HC and doms in the core?? Must try it (another to add to the list!)

Today I did my walk, plus bis and tris, spent the day gardening (that counts, eh?) and then tried out the BBW from rock Bottoms. OW.
Justine

This morning I did X-Train Chest, Back and Shoulders. I was able to increase my weight in a couple of the exercises and I was able to do more push-ups than last time.

Swimmer- I can relate, I am 50 also and I have felt like I was going to collapse during some of the Cathe workouts :eek:

Hi Ladies,

I feel motivated joining this check in. I will be reporting once per week about what I have been up to :p in term of workout, nutritions and any other fitness topic.

I am on day two of following rotation:

Day1 TTM
Day2 Full upper body X-TRAIN burn set
Day3 AOLIH + Squat Rack
Day4 Imax2 with core just after warm up. I tend to neglect core so i decided to do them straight after the warm up.;)
Day5 Legs blast x-train premix one
Day 6 High Rep, core after warm up

My current goal is to loose weight, fat and gain more and more muscles. I can gain muscles being on calories deficit making sure i do not cut out below my BMR.

Now stat:

Height 5 7'
Current weight 152
Goal 141 no time scale for this as these are my last stubborn pound to shift and complete a long journey from 99 pounds loss :eek:

To justinef: Rock Bottoms rotation is on my to do rotation list ;-) it looks intense!
To swimmer: Well done on squat Rack, I am looking forward to redoing it . Love it ;-)

Hope to hear from you all, off to lift those 10reps from cathe's burn set. Humm this is no nonsense. There is literally no rest :D:D:D

Kind Regards,

Reading comment above after completing upper body burn set premix, i can clarify there is actually some rest. It did feel grueling because i took sometime off :-/ Not happy about it. Just wish I did not have so much on my plate right now ;-)

I did X-Train Ride this morning.

I am very motivated to start STS in July! I'm working on getting a barbell set and a step or bench. Need to work on 1 rep max tests this week too!

Judy

Good work, ladies! Irongirl, I've been tempted to invest in Cathe's bike workouts, but I burned myself out by doing Spinervals for several years. I have a bike on the trainer but if there is no joy in getting on it, I don't bother. Maybe I'll regain my passion some time.

Justine--Gardening all day sounds like hard work to me, esp after working Bis/Tris. The reason I like the STS Hypertrophy is because the exercises are more traditional (not all those pushup variations), you go heavier, and it doesn't feel as rushed. Lets you focus more.

Nathalie--You are an intensity junkie! Good work. If Cathe does another IMAX, I'm going to lobby her to include you in her crew. Amazing weight loss, too. You're an inspiration.

Today is Saturday---mega-leg day---cardio was a intensity focused mishmash, starting w/C&W step only premix, TTM wup thru 30/20, TTM lo Hiit premix, XFire triple tabata, and Intensity lo Hiit premix. Strength: STS disk 38 (squat rack---was able to get add 5lbs to my bb and lift it over my head w/no issues--next week, I'll try another 5lbs; I am going to invest in a heavier weighted vest too). Then I finished out w/Legs & Glutes ankle weights premix and StepHeat abs. I walked the dogs as a cool down, and after a big breakfast, I took a 2.5 hr nap w/one of the pooches nestled next to me.

Wow, you gals are rockin' it!!

Nckfit, congrats on the weight loss, what an accomplishment!! :) I was doing fairly well until perimenopause hit and now I find I have an extra 10 lbs to lose on top of the orignal 10 lbs! I know some women breeze thru "the change" effortlessly but my body has suddenly acquired a spare tire and my abs used to be my best feature :(

Swimmer, I agree, I like STS Hypertrophy better as well. Your leg workout is killer! How long does it take to do all that???? I find it difficult to find time for 4 workouts a week with my insanely crazy and long work hours. Reading about your workouts and everyone else's is giving me an extra push.

That being said, just getting home from work and contemplating what workout to do. Had high hopes of working out before work this morning but my nutty perimenopause insomnia left me running on 3 hrs of sleep!

I heard Bob Harper has 3 new workouts coming out next week for sale at amazon, I'm tempted to get these if they look advanced! Bob is my male Cathe!

I'll check back later!

To Judy and Stacy:

Ladies if you can get a weight bench for STS. I added few more equipments just embarking STS and I have no regret. I love my weight bench. Funnily, i did split and total programs such 4DS, STS total, Muscle Max, High reps, power hours lol to name few of them, without a bench. Now that I have it, I make a good use of it. I advise you both, to add a weighted vest, It just take the workout process to another level.

To swimmer: We both love intensity ;-). I take your comments as a compliment. Thanks:eek:. I love hypertrophy as well. I have gained definitions while doing STS Meso 2. I am amazed. Burn set is a flexible substitute of Meso 2 in my opinion. Hope you get some sleep cause it's very important ;)

To Judy All the very best with STS you are going to love it. I am absolutely in love with STS. One rep max is worth taking the time to do. weight load optimisation is important if you are serious about developing your strength.

To Stacy: With regards to work interfering with workout, I decided years ago to have my workout first thing in the morning. it's better cause it sets my day. What I find helpful is to plan workout in advance. I always at least plan a month. Once it's set I stick to it. Planning ease the mental focus! Before starting a week, I always get my discs I ready. Fitness gear are also prepared in advanced.I actually pull out my discs and put them by the player ready to Rock:D:D.

You ladies into cycling are enabling me for a spin bike. I will end up having one for sure. It is just not a priority at the moment.

Wish the very good next week,

Kind Regards,

nckfitheart - that is amazing weight loss! Truly brilliant.
Judy - I plan to start doing my 1RM alongside Rock Bottoms, starting Monday. I figure the rotation is not too upper body focused, so I can add the occasional bicep curl etc. I've already got some done from Xtrain. Hopefully I'll be able to at least get the most important ones tested.
Swimmer - all I can say is WOW. You must have awsome legs! How do you choose which workouts to put together?
Stacy - I love Bob Harper too - I start Rock Bottoms on Monday, but am going to substitute his cardio core for Cathe's Core circuit on the first day. It always gives me doms in my obliques! Do you know what his new dvds are? Pure burn super strength is probably one of my all time favourite workouts. I'm not too good at choreography, so a more 'blokeish' workout suits!
Anyone any advice on what weight weighted vest to get for STS. I really can't keep using a backpack loaded with a kettle bell
Today I did Hardstrikes premix 15 (I think) 82 minutes!!! I did conditioning, triceps, tabatas, everything. But I've now completed the 90 day programme. Woohoo! I also did the Travis Eliot Yoga Foundations. I thought I'd better start at the beginning before trying UY!!!
Well done everyone,
Justine

Back to report that I completed workout 3 called Strength from UY, pretty good isometric leg fryer! I then went on a bike ride with hubby around the neighborhood. Nothing strenuous, managed to cover 10 miles.

I plan on hopefully catching up on sleep tonight and doing something a little more hardcore tomorrow!
