FITNESS NOT FACEBOOK: JUNE

Irongrl, I've been thinking about getting a spin bike for home as soon as I can get my hubby to sell his Bowflex aka Coat Rack! What type of bike do you have??

Rest day for me, and my upper body is pretty sore! That UY Cardio workout is no joke!

You ladies have been so inspirational, you make me want to push myself to do more!

Stacy, I have a Spinner Sport bike. I have been very happy with it and highly recommend the Spinner brand bikes. I got mine at Sears, and it was only $299 (in 2009).

Hey girls - mind if I join in on this check-in? I really need something like this!

Current weight - 169?
Goal weight (by end of June) - 159 (and be holding it steady!)
# of Workouts per week: 3-4

I am actually dusting off some old non-Cathe workouts. Checking in tonight with Horizontal Conditioning (10 minutes, Getting Started Workout #1). The weather here in Washington is getting nicer for summer so I will probably begin to do some outdoor run/walks and I want to buy a bicycle to begin riding!

Update - in addition to my 10 minute HC workout, I decided I needed some Cardio so I threw in one of the FIRM Express 20 minute cardio workouts.

In the past this workout was extremely difficult for me but I was feeling oddly motivated so I decided to do it anyway and I'm glad I did - it felt so good. I felt like I have been dying to feel all day - sweaty and out of breath and a little warm and a just AWESOME. I think for the month of June I am going to stick to a workout schedule of M-W-F and do 10 minutes of HC (I've got a 6-week rotation using the Getting Started DVD that I want to complete) and then 20-25 minutes of FIRM Express workouts. I have had the FIRM set for over 2 years now and have yet to do each of the workouts.

You girls really motivated me to push myself so A BIG HUGE THANK YOU!!!

PS: Today was also the first day of me doing Atkins Induction. I think that might have had something to do with me having lots of energy for the workouts :)

I still haven't committed to UY - how long have you been doing it? Is it strength-based? Has it improved your flexibility? I've been doing Lastics - amazing, but it's made me realise that I REALLY need to stretch - I sound like a 90 year old when I get out of bed in the mornings. Just too stiff. ;)

This morning's workout was Xtrain Supercuts Extreme. I always omit the Kickouts (think that's the name) as those hurt my wrists. Supercuts is my go-to workout when I have no clue what I'm in the mood for as it has a little bit of everything!

Welcome Candi! Always glad to have more join the checkin, as long as we all keep our posts limited to fitness only ;)

Justine, I've actually only just started UY, have done only the first 2 workouts. I'm doing them in order but only do 1 per week. So far, they're just the type of yoga I was looking for! The first one seemed more flexibility based, the 2nd one was very cardio intensive for the first 30 minutes, but I felt like it was a great strength workout for the upper body too. The 2nd half focused on flexibility. The 3rd one which is next up for me is called Strength.

Irongrl, how do the Spinervals differ from Cathe's cycling workouts??

Excuse me for being not so bright  I just want to make sure I understand the format of the check-in. I post my workout...maybe some results. I provide fitness only feedback on others posts, but not necessarily like the personals we typically see....something like that???

And do I HAVE to workout 4-5 days a week to participate?

Again, sorry for being confused

Atomp, hi! You definitely dont have to workout any set number of times per week to join in!

The premise behind this checkin is to post your workout, period. Some encouragement if you'd like, comments on workouts/fitness, your goals, is okay, but again not necessary and that's about it. I dont want this checkin to start gravitating towards posting why you DIDN'T workout, what your non-workout plans are for the weekend, where you're going on vacation, what new recipe you tried etc etc. I dont want to have to sift thru the "fluff" to get to the fitness stuff. And if that happens, dont worry I'll post a "gentle reminder" and feel free to call me out too if I slip!

This may seem standoffish and impersonal to some, but I find many ppl start posting what workout they "plan" on doing (and why it didnt happen even if it's a sound reason) rather than coming here to post what you actually DID.

Got it!! Everyone gets something different out of check-ins. There is definately a place for this type of check-in here :D With that said, I'm in

Today was a strength and endurance spin workout  I survived!! I just started spinning in April and now I feel l have the endurance to up my spinning to 2x per week. My next ride will be an endurance ride. I have to be careful not to fry my legs out during the week

I don't currently have a weight loss goal. I'm working on reduction of body fat. I'll know I'm there by the 'look' of my body. I'm getting really close :)

Too funny! My husband wants the Tour De France/Lance Armstrong one. Not only is that twice as much, I feel it has too much bling that might not be necessary, now to talk my hubby out of that one!

Funny...some people would say you didn't need to spend as much as this model cost  The price range on the bikes is really wide. I wanted a bike that could adjust up/down and back/forth for both the handle bars and the seat. There is no store in my area that has many bikes in stock to actually try out and sit on, so I was afraid I would get one that didn't 'fit' my body. A bike that allows more adjustment has less chance of that. Well that was my theory anyway :D The spin computer on it is awesome too!!

I also did a search on this forum. There are lots of recommendations with good descriptions here as well!!

Stacy - UY sounds just what I need. Perfect. Also, I hear you on those kick outs - I first came across them in another DVD (Jillian Michaels?) and didn't like them then. I thought I may be doing them wrong, cos they just feel awkward. Like the idea of BBW as an add on. Why didn't I think of that before?

Atomp - well done on being near the 'look'. I know what you mean. I'm about where I should be weight-wise, but still need to re-shape some bits  How long is an endurence spin? I've never tried spinning.

Today I did 5 mile dog walk (50 minutes), XTrain AOLIH, STS Lower Body (with my new barbell :D) and tonight it'll be lastics.
Just 4 days to go of my 90 day Xtrain rotation. Yippeee!

Stacy-the Sole bike looks great! I would definitely consider this if I was looking for one. That is a good price point for a spinning bike too. I was lucky to get a decent one cheap but I know I'll be paying more if and when I get a new one:eek:

Spinervals are indoor cycling workouts that range from 30 minutes (timesaver) to 5.5 hours (Hardcore 100). They are really good for training for long distance endurance rides, and IM or 1/2 IM triathlons. Most of the people in the dvds are using road or tri bikes set up on trainers, rather than spinning bikes. I've never had my bikes on a trainer so I'm not sure how that would feel. Other than length, the Cathe Ride workout is every bit as hard, if not harder, than any Spinerval I've done. There isn't as much standing in most Spinervals and there is more rest in between sets

This morning I did a Core Max premix and then STS Ab Circuits Medicine Ball abs for a total of 35 minutes. After that I walked/jogged 4.25 miles.

I did HC vol. 4, that is a tough workout I have to modify with some moves.
Yesterday I ran 7 miles;-)

buneknek / irongrl - well done on the running. I'm useless at it, so am very envious of those who can, and do, run
Today I did my 5 mile walk, then burn sets CBS (went up with all weights :D) then pyramid Hiit (my favourite of the 3) and topped it off with stability ball abs.
Not all one after the other, though!
