FIRMie looking for a good starting video

Hi!

I've been a FIRMie for about 2 years. Am over fifty years old and do not like muscle scuplting tapes only. A combination of aerobics and muscle scuptling seems to work best for me. Also, I don't life heavy weights. To date, I'm careful only because if I go too high I sometimes pull a muscle in my neck.

Love step aerobics and the tall step. Could you advise as to the best tape of Cathe's to start with?

Thank you.

Hi and Welcome,
A good beginner workout with cardio and sculting is Body Fusion. High Step Circuit training is slightly more advanced but also sounds appropriate for you. Are you an advanced stepper? Some good advanced stepping tapes are Step Blast and Rhythmic Step. If you want to get familiar with Cathe's type of choreography before you try the more advanced tapes, I would recommend Basic Step. The CTX series is also excellent. It comes as six separate workouts that you rotate. They are a mix of a variety of cardio (step, intervals, kickbox, hi-lo) and upper and lower body sculting, core work and stretching. I always recommend these workouts to new Catheites. You can use whatever weight you are comfortable with. Have fun.

I think you would love the Intensity Series. I used to do the Firm and switched to Cathe. My first Cathe dvd was Bootcamp and Muscle Endurance. You will love Bootcamp bec it is a lot of cardio mixed in with muscle sculpting. But I think you should get the Terminator bec all 3 workouts are a combination like that. I just got it this week and have tried all 3 workouts - they are tough, but a lot of fun. All 3 workouts are long though.

Hi Debbie and Cathy,

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I appreciate the help. I will go to the catalogue and check out all of these.

I would also recommend the CTX series. They are shorter and more do-able (albeit not easy) and give you a sample of her type of workouts. They are what I started with after switching from the Firm & I never went back. If you want longer cardio, just double 2 tapes. Or you can set up all the upper body for a total upper body workout. It's so flexible & a very good mix of her type of workouts.

Anyway you go, you can't lose. Have fun.

I would highly recommend Cardio and Weights. This is kind of like a Firm workout where you do a step (cardio) segment followed by a weight training segment. I think you will enjoy this as well.

I have to chime in with praise for Cardio and Weights. I'm also an ex-Firmie, and this tape was a great transition for me. I'm coming off of an exercising hiatus (pneumonia and 2 deaths in the family) and find that this tape is great to get me back into the swing of things as well.

It moves right along, the step work is a great intro to Cathe's style and choreography, and the weight work is challenging but not brutal. I would also recommend this to anyone who's worried about weight work bulking the lower body. There aren't any leg presses, and the few lunges are done with very little resistance (and only as part of compound movements). Plus the music is just awesome.

there is no leg work that is going to *bulk your body* we don't have testosterone or enough gym/video hours for that to occur. Women will not bulk unless your taking steroids.
