fat upper hamstrings

Help!!! I've been noticing my legs getting more toned with the increased workouts I've been doing.....my quads are great but as we move to the back of my legs- above the hamstrings..kinda just under the but...and near the outer thigh there is this little pocket of fat I need to get rid of- what moves would target this area best- should I just do more outer thigh workouts and hope it will change or is there a move I'm missing? I've been working out since I was in middle school- I'm 30 now and in pretty good shape- (6' and weigh 165 lbs)I do the intermediate/advanced workouts of all kinds- from Cathy to Denise Austin and the Chyna workout- to Corey Everson tapes- so I am doing a great variety but now I need to zero in on this area..any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I know exactly what you are talking about having a "pocket" of fat on your upper hamstrings. It's a bulge a lot of people get mad at. There are numerous exercises that target that area. I'm proud to say my "pocket" is gone! I have to do a series of different leg movements using ankle weights. Lunges and squats didn’t work as well for me in that area.
I must add though, I did check out your husbands band website and those were the most repulsive and abhorrent lyrics I have ever, ever read. I hope none of those songs are on the radio.

scm, I hope I typed your ID right, cause after I logged in I couldn't see it anymore. You said lunges and squats didn't work as well in that area for you, what did for for you in that area ? ...... thanks Rhonda

well thanks but that dosen't really tell me which ones to do...lunges and squats don't work for me either.....

LOL....as far as my husbands bands lyrics go- you have to "get it" it's not supposed to be repulsive....it's based on the horror genre so basically if you don't find horror movies interesting and see the creativity in them and you have a closed mind you won't like them- it's not the same ol' crap everyone is programmed into liking. Did you hear the songs or just read the lyrics? That's one of the things I like about it- plus it gets you moving and reminds me of my favorite things to do and that includes..watching horror movies! They know not everyone will like it or get it and that's ok- everyone has their opinion. I LOVE IT THOUGH! I ALSO LOVE THE MISFITS if you've ever heard of them- and it's the same type of music. The cool thing is they really care about their fans..I met the misfits and they are the nicest kindest people you could ever meet!! I don't know what kind of music you like but I like everything- in fact I work at a country radio station and a hot A/C station, and all the members of the villians listen to me- like the music and they would never treat the fans or people in general the way some famous people do(they have respect for everyone) basically what I'm saying is "don't judge a book by it's cover" you may be surprized.

Some of the floor exercises I do are: lay in an L position and start with standard leg lifts for about 30 times, then pull my upper leg toward my chest and push down toward the opposite foot.
Next, without resting, I stretch out vertical, bring the working leg (knee) toward my chest and extend up/outward, so my foot is past my head, then bring my leg back into starting position (bent knee) and extent up and outward (parallel, but higher) than the opposite foot.
Next, go on all fours (hands and knees), raise one foot up with a bent knee and cross over to the opposite knee (so both knees touch).
I usually use an ankle weight for added resistance and keep this as one giant set, with no rest in between. I hope I described this well enough so it can be understood.
As far as the music, no, I did not listen to it, just read the lyrics. To me though, it's something I don't get. But that's ok. It's great that you and your husband enjoy being in a band together.

Thanks for sharing scm, I am going to try these, the first one sounds like a pilates exercise for buns and thighs. ... thanks again Rhonda:7

There's an exercise from the Firm Volumes 3 and 5 that target this area. On your hands and knees in table position, put a dumbell in the crook of the back of your knee and fold your leg to hold it. lift and lower the weighted leg. Another variation of this exercise is to angle your knee slightly outwards to hit more of the outer thigh. How many reps and at what tempo you move your leg is up to you.

THANKS LADIES!! I have done these excersizes before but didn't know really what they were targeting besdies the hamstring- I'll try doing more with weight more often and see how it goes- thanks again!!!

I think Pyramid Lower Body is great for the hamstrings. I did this workout 2 days ago and I'm still sore in the hamstrings this morning.

Hi, LUXX, do keep up the muscle building exercises but add cardio to burn that fat. Just as you can have strong abs uderlying a layer of belly fat, which won't go no matter how many crunches you do, those little areas where we woman keep a little extra fat, require cardiovascular exercise to burn the fat and expost the lean mass underneath! Good luck and blessed be to you too!

Thanks Bobbi!! I do cardio as well- I try and mix things up but apparently I'm not doing either the right cardio or enough- how much cardio do you reccomend? right now I do 10-20 minutes on days when I do weights and other days a half hour. fill me in and thanks for your help!! oh i have a stepper too- does that help at all for this problem?

Hi, LUXX!

I think that looks like a fair amount of cardio but maybe kick up the intensity a little bit. What cardio do you do? Interval training is great for blasing fat! I have been doing heavy strength work to get strong and keeping my cardio more moderate because you really can't lay down muscle and blast fat. I have four more weeks of my heavy rotation and then I am going to ease back on the weights and kick my cardio into high gear and hopefully blast away my storage tank of belly fat. My body loves that ab flab! If you are happy with your strength and the amount of muscle you have, you might emphasize the cardio and it doesn't have to be long, just intense and see if that slims down the back of your leg. It's one of those spots on a woman's body that loves a little cushioninng but you can get it!

Thans Bobbi!! I appreciate your help. The cardio I do is varied some days I will do the Denise Austin ultimate workout and when I'm concentrating on cardio I foward the circut parts...then on days when it looks like they are going to be more intense I watch caribean workout on fit tv. I haven't found a cardio tape of cathe's yet- I'm new to her workouts but love the boot camp one- (and of course the slow and heavy and all the muscle ones)but I tried the one step workout of hers and with my limited apartment space it was very difficult...can you recommend a cathe video that is high intensity cardio without the step and confusing moves?
I have that little ab pouch too so maybe that will also help this? these trouble spots are really stubborn little guys aren't they? UGH!!!

Not Bobbi here, but I would definitely recommend you get Kick, Punch, and Crunch. It uses very little space, no step, and will definitely work your entire body. And it is fun.

thanks- i think i will get it- i don't have a lot of money in the budget to get all that I want so if you think this is the best effective tape then that's what i'll check out. thanks- also i was going to order the terminator dvd but just wandering what she means when she mentions the premixes? I know it may be stupid but I have no idea what she means by this? can you help me?
by the wya - i love posting in this forum and checking it out every day- it gives me something to look forward too!!

Good choice, LUXX. The Terminator is another behind kicker. I still haven't explored that series fully becaseu it came out when I was laid up with PF. The premixes take parts of the workouts and put them together to change the workout somewhat. For instance, on Imaz 2 with the pre-mix you can opt to do only the first five intervals only or the second five intervals should you be pressed for time or need somthing less intense. There's also a premisx of the blasts. Terminator is premixes from the IS also; it's compilations from all the workouts on IS and they are desinged to kill you or make you stronger,LOL! It's tough stuff but you'll burn fat and get strong to boot!!

THANKS BOBBI!! That sounds cool- I thought about it alot and decided to just order the terminator- that way I get a little more and can see how the dvd 's work since I don't have one yet- I have to start out and order slow a little at a time. those premixes I am anxious to see

I can't wait to get it- I hope UPS hurries!!! We just got a new dvd player last night - it looks kinda basic- I hope I can program the pre mixes..YIKES.....I'm sure I'll be hooked- Heck I've been hooked on excersizing since I was in 6th grade!!!
