Eyebrows

There is nothing wrong with being frivolous sometimes, and I also have extremely dark hair with pale skin. I get my eyebrows waxed when I am able to, and I tweeze in between. As others have said, waxing lasts longer.

OMG Donna, I thought that I was the only one who sneezed when plucking! That is so funny.:7 I'm so glad that I'm not the only one!

I won't even say where I've got hairs growing!
I wax my own eyebrows. I had them lasered a couple of years ago so the upkeep isn't bad. I still have to pluck some areas where the wax doesn't grab. At least I don't need a lawnmower anymore in between the brows! :p :7

Can't you have someone wax once, so you know how they shape the brows, then keep up with plucking on your own?

To Nancy324, bunbun and anyone else in New York (and any major metro area) try threading. It's an Indian technique of facial hair management. You can find threading salons in NY as easily as you can nail salons. It's slightly more painful because the hairs get pulled individually (sort of - they sweep over the area so it's still very quick) versus the one sweep in waxing. But it's super-cheap - most places are about $6. The other beautiful thing is that it is very precise. My eyebrows have never looked as good as when I have them threaded. It's cool to watch, too.

I go to a salon once a month or so to make sure I keep the shape I want and then pluck on my own every few days. I just pluck the hairs that are clearly growing out because I have messed up the shape of them with over plucking many times. I also have one of those lighted magnifying mirrors to see the little hairs growing out.

I always thought that I had good eyebrows and that I didn't need to pluck until a makeup artist told me that I had uneven eyebrows! I never noticed it because it was subtle, but now looking back at pictures, you can tell! I just thought my face was shaped that way. Anyway, now I look more symetrical which has totally changed my face.

I completely understand the eyebrow wars- mine would grow down to my eyelashes and up to my hairline if they had free reign! I do think eyebrows make such a difference in how you look. I can't ever go back to cavewoman!

I would definitely recommend threading because it is very precise, inexpensive, and very fast (those women in the threading salons do NOT waste time!).

I also met a woman recently whose eyebrows always looked very nicely shaped. She said she actually had laser hair removal done years ago. (I would definitely carefully research that option before trying it out.)

Good luck with whatever you try!

I actually had an appointment to go to a threading place that was highly recommended, but then a co-worker told me she had her brows threaded and it hurt so much she threw up. That kind of turned me off to it! I am thinking of growing out my uneven brows and getting Ramy to re-do them.

If there's one thing I envy about you New Yawkers, it's your access to fabulous things. I would kill to come there and get the whole beauty shebang---hair, brows, make-up. By golly, one of these days I'm gonna do it! I'm going to come to NY and get the whole deal--along with a major shopping spree, just as soon as I figure out who's gonna pay for it.

Michele:)

I wax my own eyebrows to get the bulk of the hair off and then tweeze out the "strays". Since I do them myself they are not perfect but they are good enough for me!;) I wax/tweeze every couple of weeks. I only "touch up" tweeze when I'm going for an evening out. If I'm just doing my normal routine I deal until it's time to wax again...:)
