EEEK..there's a mouse in the house

Last night I couldn't sleep so I'm sitting in my den reading a book when out of the corner of my eye I see a shadow. I look up and there is a mouse scurrying across the floor. EEEWWWW! I jumped up onto my chair and called for the dog who is happily asleep upstairs in my bed. He comes down and just looks at itx( So I ran like mad upstairs to get DH since I have rodentphobia and by the time he comes down, we can't find it!! Now I am freaked out and I sit here at my computer with my legs tucked under me wondering where it is now and how it got into the house. We put out traps but I am so uncomfortable I can't even walk around my house. I was supposed to do YogaX today but there is no way I'm going barefoot and lying on the floor.

Help???!!!

LOL!

That's what I love about this place...always finding ways to turn a negative into a positive.:D

I'm a big scaredy when it comes to mice...and absolutely PETRIFIRED of rats...Anyway I once saw a mouse runna cross the floor of our school library and I was so exhausted at the time I couldn't even move or scream. I just remember staring at it, thinking to myself 'I must be REALLY spent not to react to you, ya l'il sucker, so go on ahead and nibble away!! :7 :7

Creeps me out too. November is mouse month.

I used to have mice in our flat in London. I was pretty freaked out and managed to get rid of them. But then I heard that you're never more than 10 feet from a RAT in central London and I had to just try not to think about that. Ugh. ***shivers*** That's the nicest thing about moving from there (though I did love London in other ways, of course).

I bought one of those ultrasonic devices that rodents can hear, but not family pets. I haven't had a problem since I got it (over 10 years).

We have 6 cats. 4 outside and 2 inside. They're not all good mouse catchers (a couple are), but they're all good mouse chasers, so the mice don't last long around here. They either get caught by a catcher or run off by the others. :)

When I was in college, I got an internship 600 miles away from my house (I lived off campus by myself). When I got home, I found a nest of baby mice in my closet. You should have heard the screams. I definitely don't like mice. Or roaches. Or spiders. Shudder.

What is your device called? We bought these things from Sams club called VerminX that plug into electrical outlets. We've had them over a year so obviously they are not working for usx(

I am not a fan of the little critters either. One time, shortly after I moved to California, I was staying in temporary university housing until my apartment was ready. Well, one night, I had left a bag of rice cakes by my computer, which was also next to my bed and I was awakened by a munching sound! I could see the bag moving! Sure enough a little mouse ran out of the bag, down the cord that was connected to my computer and under my bed! I could not sleep in that place the rest of the time that I was there! Thank goodness it was temporary!

Maybe you should rent Ratatouille!;-)

Well, we got home from a wedding last night and checked the traps. We got a mouse in the basement trap but the one I saw was on the main floor. I tried to convince myself that it must have made the long trek down into the basement but no such luck. DS was up late watching TV and the "main floor level" mouse came out of hiding. He tried to catch it but it was too fast. We now have it cornered in the office so we are just waiting for it to find the trap. Good thing I got my laptop out of there first.

This is so disgusting! It's amazing how a tiny mouse can elicit such fear and trepidation in a grown adult but it just freaks me out. We need to find out where the h*ll these pests are getting into the house. Unfortunately, a cat is not an option as I have a number of family members who are seriously allergic.

Wish me luck!

"Look at it this way, just think of the extra cardio you got since you saw it"

ROFLMAO!!

We used to have a mouse problem also. Every time it gets cold they come in. We live near a wooded areaaour kitchen redone and a lot of the little spots that they used to sneak in were sealed off. So, maybe you should look around for those kind of spaces that could be filled. For me, it is the sudden movement that scares the pants off of me! I HATE that!

Good luck!

Just want to jump in and say, I know what you're going through , I've BTDT! Last year, I spent 2 hours on top of our kitchen counter with these uncontrollable horror-movie screams coming out of me , as this little vermit ran around our family room, darting back & forth under the furniture, ran UP a speaker, crawled on my son's picture...and then it got "lost" in my house.

I couldn't stay in the house that day, packed up the kids and went to my mom's.

My husband put down traps (wooden traps with peanut butter) and caughtt he bugger!

we also had an exterminator come and "mouse proof" our house.

They started coming in this year, but we got on top of it early, and had the exterminator come do his stuff again!!

Good luck!!!

My cat could care less if there was a mouse/mice in the house. If my son wasn't attatched to the cat, she'd be out of here (we went through a period when we caught about 10 mice in one month)!!!!!!!

I've been jinxed!

After reading about mice in people's houses here and on VF, I discovered I have them as well!

I was pretty well clued in the other day, when my cats were very interested in the basement wall next to the stairs (where there was a hole I never noticed before, but that didn't seem to go directly outside). I stuffed some plastic bags in the hole until I could pick up a more permanent solution, but mice must be able to get in...

Just a few minutes ago, I was sitting here in front of the computer (which is on an old Firm Fanny Lifter, so I sit on a balance disc in front of it), and looked over and saw 'something' on the floor about 3 feet away. Looked like maybe a dried up apple core (I don't have my glasses on, so things are a bit blurry). I leaned in closer, and saw it was a dead mouse, lying upside down, with its brains chewed out!!

At least I know I've got at least one good mouser around (I think it must be Rascal--I did tell him to catch and kill--quickly!--any mouse he found). I'm just glad I came across an already-dead mouse rather than a 1/2 dead mouse, or one that was being 'played' with.

Guess it's time to go to the hardware store and pick up some plaster or some other hole-filling gunk. (and maybe some peppermint oil at the health food store: I just read that mice are allergic to peppermint, and if you put peppermint oil on a cotton ball and put it where they like to hang out, they will leave the area).

Sorry, NinjaMom, just saw your question. I'm at work, will check the name of our device when I get home this evening.

OH NO Kathryn!

Sorry if I jinxed you. We finally caught the one that had been scurrying around on our main level. I checked all the traps this morning and they were empty so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I just can't figure out where they are coming inx(

Thanks for the peppermint oil tip. It is times like this I wish I had a cat so give Rascal a big hug for me!

Good luck!

I heard scratching from the attic the other night. We had one, just one, odd I know, when we lived in our old house. Totally freaked me out because I'm a germ-phobe and mice are dirty and gross and my son was crawling at the time. This time around, I just listened for more scratching and haven't heard any more since the other night, so I'm hoping it was on the roof and not in the attic. Anyway... In our last house, I put steel wool (you can get it in the cleaning section of WalMart, around any holes around the pipes under our bathroom and kitchen cabinets and any outdoor holes. I also bought those plug-in noise makers. Don't tell me they don't work, because they are my false sense of security!! Check your baseboards for droppings too. That's how I knew we had one in our old house. YUCK!!!!
