Does Anyone get regular Massages?

I was just curious to see if any of you Catheites get a regular full body massage. I started to about 3 years ago. I found out that my body responded best to a deep muscle massage, but I know that isn't for everyone. My favorite massage therapist took some time off and I tried some others but they weren't the same at all. She finally came back and I had a great massage yesterday.....:)...Carole

Well, you've just reminded me that it's been a couple of months since I've had one! I was getting them once a week there for a while to help some back pain, and then just continued with that for a whle even after the pain was gone. Then I cut it down to once a month...then got lazy and stopped going. I took a cruise in January and had one aboard ship, but it wasn't the same...I too like deep tissue massage and this one was just too light. Hum, I think I should make an appointment for this week!

I go once a week for my realignment. He usually only does a couple of spots on my body and rarely does a full body massage on me (well, only when I return from a LONG trip...I just returned from Italy last month and my alignment was way off). He usually works on my lower back, my shoulders, and my feet. He's a life saver!

I started getting regular massages about three years and it is one of the best things I do for myself - besides working out with Cathe! I try to go every two weeks - if it's longer than that, I can really tell it. Having all those "knots" that have to be worked out reminds me that I need to stretch more after each workout.

I've been getting weekly Shiatsu treatments in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments for a disc injury in my neck. My neck & upper back muscles seized up so bad and I couldn't get them to relax on their own with stretching, heat, cold, etc.. Previously, I would get a sports (deep tissue) massage about once per month. For me, there is nothing better than massage to relax and relieve tension in the muscles. :)

I am embarrassed to say that it has been 6 months since I last received a massage but I gave 1 about 2 hours ago:), I am a Registered Massage Therapist. I find the comments about deep tissue massage interesting as in my opinion there aren't many things more annoying than looking forward to a good massage and barely even getting fluffed up, you gotta get in there, elbows, thumbs, fists and forearms, whatever it takes to soften those muscles. Thank goodness I have Cathe to help me keep my arms strong. I'm gonna go now and call a colleague to arrange a trade.
Carole, thanks for the reminder that I 'knead' to get a massage:7

Because of a work injury that caused permanent damage to my spine, I get a massage every two weeks. For awhile I went to a woman who made me feel better during the massage, but there was no real long term benefit. Now I see a guy who does things that sometimes hurt a bit at the time, but my back is doing better than I ever imagined possible. I'm doing squats and deadlifts with 45 lbs. and I never thought I'd be able to do them at all again. My therapist is very knowledgeable and we have great conversations about fitness and body mechanics, etc. It's great!

I WISH!!!!

I have always said that if I won the lottery, that this would be my "decadant splurge".....I would get regular massages.

Until my kids are grown, that is all it can be for me, and decadant is what it feels like when I am able to do it.

I absolutely love getting deep tissue massages - I have a family friend who is a massage therapist, so when I go visit my parents (about 4x a year) I always see her. I would go more often, but I have never found anyone else who "works me over" so good. There is nothing worse than spending $$$ for a massage and then feeling disappointed because it didn't work out the kinks.

Just out of curiousity, how much do massages cost in different areas? I live in Maryland, and I recently had a massage that was $90/hr. ( I had received a gift certificate). I thought that was outrageous! And the worst part was it wasn't even that good of a massage.

Laurie....I am so glad I reminded you! I have had too many of the "fluffed up" massages and do wish you lived near me! But after my massage last night I remember what a good massage feels like. I have a little pain in some ares which makes me realize that I have gotten a bit out of shape. I am back on the right track though slowly increasing my weight amount in Cathes workouts. I am going to try for a monthly massage and maybe every 2 weeks if I need it. I also see a Chiropractor regularly, and my nephew has recently become one...Cool...:)...hope you arrange that trade soon...:)...Carole

Tracy, I think it is very hard to find the right massage therapist. I will need to follow mine if she leaves again!! I am not sure but I think here in Northern Cal they run $75-90. I go to the one my Chiropractor has in his office and it is figured out with my monthly plan. I have gone to a Chiro regularly for about 5 years.

I had one awhile ago- it was neat with sandlewood oil but after it I was so lazy and felt tired for 2 days. I hate that! I never went again....I had no motivation and it just relaxed me too much I guess. I'm not the type that relaxes easy- my fav. form of relaxation is flopping on my couch and watching movies. otherwise it's alway " go, go go, run, run run, busy ,busy, busy"
I'm kinda glad I don't like them- it's pretty out of my budget right now

I don't like them either, Luxx. I've tried. Every few years I would get one, just to give it a fair shot. But I do not like lying there, I find it boring at best and painful at worst. And afterwards, that limp floppy feeling that lasts for hours. I hate it!! I like to go gogogogogo also. Oh well. More money I can save for other things.

Tracy, I live in Northern California and I pay $75 for a full hour/full body deep tissue massage. I'm calling for my appointment as soon as they open this morning! :)

That is so funny! I have a friend whose husband got her a Spa Day certificate as a gift once. She had a facial, massage, manicure, the works! She killed me because she kept breaking it up and going for one thing at a time. The massage was last because she was dreading it. She swears she hates them (didn't know why her husband bought this for her) and that she needs to be "tightly wrapped" to function. When she relaxes into a massage and they work a lot of tension out, she falls apart.

I love this girl, and she is one of my funniest dearest friends, but I have nick named her Wheezer from that character in Steel Magnolias. She kills me!:)

Hi Carole:
I just wanted to thank you for the reminder that I have left it far too long between massages. I'm going in on Wednesday, can't wait:).
Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend.
