Does anyone else...

...really feel it in the lower leg when doing lounges? I hear all this talk about how great lounges are for the quads, glutes, and hamstrings, but what about the gastroc and the soleus (spelling?)? When I do lounges, I really feel it in the gastroc and soleus of the back leg. Usually those muscles burn out before my quads do. I do a lot of step so I have really buff calves, they are very solid and strong. I make sure my shoulders are over my hips, so I don't think my form is bad. Does this happen to anybody else?

Oh, and its not 'pain' I feel, its just the burn of latic acid in the muscles.

thanks,

DeeDee

Hi DeeDee, I also have this problem. I sometimes cannot make it through all the static lunges due to my ankles and calves really hurting. Also in Leaner Legs I have found that the, I think, third set of calf raises I have to stop early or I can't do hardly any of the lunges. If I stop early on the calf raises, then I can do more lunges.

Hi DeeDee,

Yep - I feel the burn in the calf too. I don't burn out before my quads, but I definitely feel enough burn to make me want to skip calf raises as they feel well worked from the lunges. I'm hoping some of the more educated crowd will chime in with knowledge and opinions too. I know I'm not any help, but wanted to say good post. Thanks,

Beth

NEVER.

However, I always get a really bad cramp in my glutes on the low ends. Calves never seem involved for me...

I started to find lunges effective when I began focusing on keeping the leg in back coming straight down from the hip and a ninety degree angle in the front leg with the knee and ankle staying in alignment. Cathe describes it perfectly in one of her leg workouts but I am not sure which one it is! Keep trying, though, and adjusting your body positioning until it feels right!

Make sure that your hips are tucked under before you lower into the lunge. If they are tilted forward, that causes you to really push with your back leg.

Here I thought this was just me! I recently started doing Power Hour and whenever I get to the lunges my calves start to give out. They are just burning. I too double check my form and can't figure out why it's happening. It never happened before I started using this video.I end up standing up and trying to "shake" them out and give it another go. I always wonder if Cathe's feeling the same thing and if she is how does she push through it?! ;-) Take Care, Susan
