Do you interrupt your workouts when you need water?

midnight

Cathlete
I was wondering about this while I was working out today (Step Works). I realized that no matter how thirsty I am, I will not stop in the middle of a workout to get water. Between workout sessions, yes, I'll take a quick gulp but never, ever will I stop to drink during a section. I'm bad about drinking water in general, even though I certainly know better. I usually do drink Gatorade after an intense cardio because I promised my nutrionist I would. Anyone else out there like me?

"Don't forget to breathe!"

Nope, not me.:) When I feel thirsty, I'll wait 'til the end of the combo/routine/segment then have some water. I'd die if I don't drink, with Cathe's workouts as tough as they are. As Cathe says, no guzzling. So I sip slowly. Enough to wet my throat. I don't want to bounce around with so much liquid in my stomach.:)

I do drink lots of water during the day. Even when I'm not thirsty, I'd have a few sips. Force of habit...

Yes, I take water breaks, bathroom breaks, get-my-daughter-a-glass-of-milk breaks. The only breaks I don't take are answering the phone or door. Well, with water breaks, I don't really BREAK. I just take some during the perceived exertion test or in a lull where you're only do basic steps. Then I just march in place while drinking.

And...I'll drink pretty much half the glass at once. Sorry Cathe. It just tastes too good!

i do like you... at the end of a section/routine/blast.. but NEVER in the middle of a section! i drink propel when working out in the morning. i take it out to the garage (my workout space) with me and it sits within reach (well... i march or side step over there when the break occurs!)

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

When I am thirsty I will drink...I usually try to wait for the end of a segment or an exercise and I will pause the dvd for a sec so I can wet my whistle quickly...If I were to try to force myself to finish an entire workout with out drinking if I were thirsty I'd probably get really irritated and not have fun!

Have a great work out!

I'm with Wendy. I work out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach-so I'm already dehydrated. I dring 32 oz of water during and after my workout. Usually a sip before the warmup and then another one before the workout starts, and in between segments. If I can't wait, I'll pause and take a drink and then get right back to it.

There's no way I could make it through an entire Cathe w/o without drinking my water.

I seem to never interrupt my workouts for water unless I'm dying. I don't know why. Like you said you know you should but I'm in the same boat as you . Maybe a sip here and there but usualy wait until I'm done and then have the water. karen

LOL! i STOP and GULP! i can't help myself! i try to wait for little breaks in the routine, but sometimes, i just can't.

During weight workouts, I usually go through a quart of water or more. For cardio, if I need water, I will take a short break and sip some.

I take several gulps before tsarting, pause after warm up and stretch for more and then stop during the breaks (between sections, perceived exertion, P90X ballistic stretch breaks, etc) and get some more. there is no way that I could go through *any* workout without water throughout. Plus, I feel like my body needs that throughout rather than just before and after a workout. I drink throughout teh day very often as well. the one thing that I am bad about is drinking down a lot of water just after a workout.

I do bolt to the side for a drink of water frequently during a workout, usually during a slower part or a transition (like the transition between the resistance cycles and the next cardio segments in a circuit workout). I judge the intensity of my workout by the amount of water I've chugged down at the end of it.

I do, on occasion in a morning workout, interrupt my workouts to "make" water as well. TMI? Oh well. At least I haven't started another sex poll.

Same here--while Cathe & crew are taking a heart rate check I'm usually guzzling water. Also I'm usually doing the cardio tape first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Too much water & I cramp up. So I'm usually drinking a quart or so after the workout is done. When I lift at the gym I usually tote my bottle along w/me & drink throughout the workout.

I drink water right after the warm up, during sections if the going is tough and I need it, but I prefer to wait until the end of a combo/section if poss'. I chug a lot of h2o during weight lifting, after an exercise, while resting, helps me to psyche myself for the next part.

I also have to take breaks to fix snacks for kids when they come home from school, to sort out their fights if the little one comes to me crying, but I never break to answer the phone!

Breaks are a requirement for a lot of Mums.

When I am thirsty, I drink. I also eat too through the workouts as I munch on almonds and protein bars. I can't get enough to eat...I am always eating.

Water breaks between segments, bathroom break if needed. I used to panic about "interrupting" my cardio workout, but I read in some respectable magazine (Muscle & Fitness Hers maybe?) that you can pause during your cardio work for up to two minutes and not affect your fatburning or heart-strengthening efforts. Even though your HR might drop out of its zone, it's no biggie and it will get right back up there when you resume.

Water and kleenex breaks for me too. I once read by the time you realize you are thirsty you are already dehydrated, which is a baaaadddd thing!
