Do you have a favorite book?

This is very very hard but if I can only pick one, it is Anna Karenina. But then there's East of Eden and then there's...

Morningstar,

we seem to like the same kind of books.
are Wilder and Melancholy Elephants fantisy?

laura

Well, Laura Ingalls Wilder is the author of the Little House on the Prairie books, which is a biography series. Melancholy Elephants is a book of short stories by a science fiction author (but Spider Robinson sort of works within the SF genre to get his point across rather than being a typical SF writer). Spider is an amazing writer, and will always make you cry and feel good at the same time.

I read all the time so picking one favorite is so hard. I'm going back to my childhood and picking "The Boxcar Children". I love that book because it reminds me of my childhood. I read it often.

That was actually a series, and I loved them too!

I don't have one single favorite, but lately I've been reading biographies and historical fiction. I'm trying to wade my way through a Teddy Roosevelt bio (good but extremely detail oriented), Devil in the White City, Home (Julie Andrews bio).

One of my all-time favorite books is by Steve Martin called "The Pleasure of My Company". I literally cried when I finished it because I was so sad that it was over. I felt like I was losing my friend by not having that book to read and enjoy.

Jane Eyre.

If I had memory-erase device, I would read it every month or so. Because I don't, I read it every couple of years. Love it, love it.

Have a great night!

Deborah

Me too - My favorite by far - it never fails to impress me. It is one book that has never been out of print since it was published in 1847.

Every one has such good tastes in books. All my favorites have been listed -

Jane Eyre
To Kill a Mockingbird
One Hundred Years of Solitude

Since a few of you have dipped into children's lit, I'll add my favorite -

The Secret Garden.

A Rumor of War by Philip Caputo
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Closing Time by Joe Queenan

I'll follow the rules of "just one favorite", but this changes on a daily basis.

Stranger In a Strange Land - Robert A. Heinlein

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

I love this one, too. This was my dear aunt's favorite book and I never took the time to read it until after she died. I wish that I had read it while she was alive and we could have talked about it. I don't read a lot of fiction, but I love this book.

Erica

To Kill a Mockingbird
Pride and Prejudice
Persuasion
The Picture of Dorian Gray

Oh gosh, there are so many, and a host of biographies, too.

Persuasion and all things Jane Austin
I Know This Much is True
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
All Harry Potter
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Mosquito Coast
Lord of the Flies
Jurassic Park
To Kill a Mockingbird

The unabridged version of the Stand :). I can't believe how many others like it, too! I always thought I was wierd to like it so much and I've read it 10 times...

"The Secret Life of Bee"

I love southern novels. I love August in this story. I want to be like her. She's played by Queen Latifa in the movie, which I have to say does the book a fair amount of justice which is unusual!
