Do I need spinning shoes? (and if so, WHY?)

Can any veteran "spinners" tell me what difference spinning shoes make and is it worth the investment? (i.e. do I NEED them??)

Is there a big difference in brands or between less expensive and more expensive shoes?

Any specific shoe recommendations?

Do you think we will get to pick who we audition with? Because I don't think I stand a chance of actually getting picked, but I KNOW I could increase the chances of some of my friends by making them smile the whole time! (I know where my talents lie!)
